This is awful, my thoughts are with the French and worldwide Jewish community.

i agree
Places of worship, regardless of religion, should be sacrosanct

MangeMonCochonnet · 25/08/2024 14:13

Horrendous.

But unfortunately these days, not surprising.

Helpabojttown · 25/08/2024 14:35

The people who are voting I’m being unreasonable, care to explain why?

As someone with very worried French Jewish family I'd like to hear their reasons too.

Nadeed · 25/08/2024 15:02

Terrible. But sadly I am not surprised. Antisemitism is ramping up.

They conveniently blame all Jewish people for the actions of a few political leaders in Israel.

Being antisemitic is reasonably fashionable nowadays, especially on far left social media.
Hatred is being celebrated and encouraged.

The ability to paint Jewish people as evil has been observed throughout history and is never far from the surface.

Civilian, non-governmental places should be.

pigletinthewoods · 25/08/2024 15:19

Those saying you’re being unreasonable probably have drunk the cool-aid and think of themselves as the good people.

Sadly, I’ve come to the realisation that the far left cannot exist without antisemitism. It dates back to Marx and his acolytes reviving and proliferating very ugly antisemitic tropes. Today, when it’s so fashionable to be left-wing and ‘progressive’, there seems to be a revival of these old and harmful ideas, accelerated by the alliance between the far left and those in the Middle East who have made the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people their life mission. Obviously, it’s dressed up as something else, but that’s how it’s always been.

Not surprised, French Jews have been a target for years unfortunately.

“The number of Jews in France had declined by more than 15 percent between 1970 and 2020, according to the source, and is now estimated to be just under 450,000. One of the factors of this decrease is the immigration of French Jews to Israel. Between 2010 and 2019 alone, more than 50 thousands Jews left France to reach Israel. This wave of migration also seems to be intensifying: 18,574 French Jews moved to Israel between 2015 and 2019, compared to less than 8,000 between 2000 and 2004.”

During the Holocaust, approximately six million Jews were killed.

Certainly not unreasonable!! This is a situation that needs to be reported and condemned, and Gabriel Attal makes a good statement here.

In case you're curious about how it is reported internationally, I've seen it on the US and Canadian news channels, probably taking the story from the international wires with not much chance to fully analyses it yet - for example via Reuters: https://www.reuters.com/world/french-police-officer-hurt-suspected-arson-attack-front-synagogue-2024-08-24/

The absolute cheek of this guy though

Left-wing politician Jean-Luc Mélenchon called it an "intolerable crime"

Agreed about this given his record.

SensibleSigma · 25/08/2024 17:19

I was pondering today how we don’t see militant Jews attacking Muslims or mosques or schools in Europe.

CurlewKate · 25/08/2024 18:01

Of course you're not being unreasonable. What a daft place to post this!

Sassy31 · 25/08/2024 18:06

This is awful… sadly it’s not just synagogue. Two Catholic Churches have also been targeted in the UK. However for some reasons these types of attacks on places of worship are not being reported to the main stream media

HermioneWeasley · 25/08/2024 18:12

This is what “globalise the infitada” means. This is what people have been marching in the streets of every major city agitating for.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 25/08/2024 18:17

I’m horrified at anyone who wants to burn other people, or stab them, or bomb them.
Take all the men out of the Palestine and Israel situation, replace them with women and all the problems would be sorted. Women see the long game, the future generations. They think of health care and education. Men want to wave the willies and don’t give a fuck what happens to anyone else.

Are you referring to this statue being vandalised and a church in N Ireland set on fire late evening or has more happened?

Christians 'fearful' after church statue vandalised

Members of a Catholic church in London have expressed concern for their safety after one of their statues was vandalised.

YANBU, holding members of a religion responsible for the actions of a foreign state is utterly mental really. I think we turn such a blind eye to anti-semitism generally it’s not seen as racism racism. i think proportionately the Jewish community is the victim of more hate crimes than any other minority in the Uk (I saw that somewhere can’t remember where) but we never ever seem to talk about it. Other forms of prejudice are discussed all the time.

Those who voted YABU should hang your heads in shame.

And this, what does anyone think will happen when you have stupid people shouting this in the streets? It’s basically a call to attack Jewish people. Who else would be aimed at?

No, two church in North London and the priest was in bed whilst the church was set on fire . Will try and find the link.
Last week a priest was stabbed in Southern Ireland . This was classed as a Terrorist attack- due to what the suspect shouted out . So it’s all happening .
