What a disgrace.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 23/08/2024 14:10

Yep. They just had this on Radio 4. The forum have to pay him compensation! Some people are so bloody entitled. But I think the tide will turn.

EasternStandard · 23/08/2024 14:10

The judge's comments

But Justice Robert Bromwich said in his decision on Friday that case law has consistently found sex is “changeable and not necessarily binary”, ultimately dismissing Giggle’s argument.

Tickle said the ruling "shows that all women are protected from discrimination" and that she hoped the case would be "healing for trans and gender diverse people".

Concerning for precedent

DonnaBanana · 23/08/2024 14:11

I thought gender was changeable or at least more fluid and that sex was just whatever you biologically were. Has it changed back around again?

So you can argue black is white ....🙄

If I was a lesbian I would now not trust that dating app so they would lose my custom. Such a good idea but as usual we must bow to men’s feelings.

SilenceInside · 23/08/2024 14:13

Only an entitled male would take an organisation for women-only to court to force them to accept his membership.

The confused state of the law in Australia is shocking, as is the fact that a judge could sit there and actually say that sex is changeable and not necessarily binary! No mammal on the planet has or ever will change sex, and of course sex is binary - what are the other sex(es) and what is their role in mammalian (and therefore human) reproduction?

discocherry · 23/08/2024 14:14

I very much feel like the majority of trans women are just wanting to live their lives in peace and should be able to do this. I don’t care what people wear or how they present themselves.

My issues with this are:
a) Why would you even want to join a space for women that is clearly specifically for discussion of issues that solely impact biological women? I would not dream of trying to enter a space made for trans women because I don’t have the same experience and problems.
b) Wearing “female clothes” and “growing your hair” doesn’t make someone a woman.

Honestly I don’t like at all how divided and hostile this issue is but I just feel like no one has ever given a satisfactory reason why we should accept that someone wanting to wear “female clothes” etc makes them a woman - how is “I want to wear makeup” not a totally sexist and reductive view of womanhood?

EasternStandard · 23/08/2024 14:14

I mean we really are in trouble with this, from a judge

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 23/08/2024 14:16

The app's founder has some (lady!) balls. She's not afraid of stating the facts.

Witchbitch20 · 23/08/2024 14:17

Disgraceful

ButtSurgery · 23/08/2024 14:17

I hope they appeal this - the whole of the decision suggests to me the judge doesn't understand the difference between sex and gender identity.

Livinginaclock · 23/08/2024 14:25

Roxy Tickle makes me feel sick and Australia are goinggl backwards

bringbacktheladiesloos · 23/08/2024 14:29

So glad I don't live in Australia

RentySpenty · 23/08/2024 14:32

Roxxie Tickle. Really? 🤨

It isn’t a dating app, or at least, not primarily. Sally Grover set it up after experiencing sexism at work, as a women’s network for support.

This is exactly what is happening in lesbian spaces in real life and online, they pretty much don’t exist anymore without men intruding and the more you say this is a female only the space the more they want to access it, that’s how this thing works.

ChateauMargaux · 23/08/2024 14:45

FFS.. ..

discocherry · 23/08/2024 14:46

Like I just don’t understand how we’ve got to the point where it can be ruled discriminatory for women to not want biological men in their spaces. It makes me so cross.

MounjaroUser · 23/08/2024 14:46

Yes, that was the whole point of the site, that it was a safe space for women. Safe from men.

If that TW really believes they are a woman, they would know how it important that was for women.

Are there any similar apps for TW? Can you imagine if non-TW were to go in there and tell them what's what - or even worse, sit and watch as they discuss their feelings?

Feelinadequate23 · 23/08/2024 14:49

YANBU. Black is indeed white. Imagine if a woman wanted to join a man's space. She'd just be ejected and that would be that. As soon as it's women's freedoms being eroded, the system is all for it!

The owner of the platform has said she will appeal. Fingers crossed for someone sensible in the High Court/Supreme Court eventually.

The very fact that Roxy wanted to join the platform despite KNOWING that it would destroy the whole purpose of it and ruin the experience for bio women shows that she's not a woman - just a standard, entitled man who LOVES making women feel threatened and uncomfortable. Ridiculous!

OvertheChannel · 23/08/2024 14:49

I really don’t understand why some Professors of Biology (or whatever their professional titles would be in Australia), don’t sit down with judges, lawyers, politicians etc and explain, in simple biological terms, what SEX is. With diagrams. And how the reproductive system works! Explain how men and women are identified when they are born. Did these people not have biology lessons at school?

Then explain GENDER IDENTITY is…

Is it really that difficult?!

Gilbertwasawuss · 23/08/2024 14:51

It is actually terrifying.

There is not a single space where women are safe from mentally ill men.

You can't even be a lesbian these days without being called a bigot for not wanting to have sex with a man who says he is a woman.

They are entitled and outraged that we nay have something that isn't centred around them and our sick patriarchal society is validating their delusions.

Just another example of no one caring about or protecting women

Exactly. I have shorter hair than Roxy and don't wear make-up. Does this mean I'm not a woman, despite, you know, having ovaries, a uterus and vagina?! Oh and having suffered systemic discrimination since the day I was born...

Thisisallabitshit · 23/08/2024 14:52

I’m really confused now. If Giggle is for women only then what is this thread all about? Did she do an about-face at some point?
