So you can argue black is white ....🙄

What a load of absolute nonsense. Sex is immutable. You can't suddenly grow a pair of ovaries or mammaries or testicles or a functioning penis just because you feel like it.

Gender is mutable because it is a social construct. Gender can be fluid and non-binary. Sex can't.

But biological women have always been controlled by biological men and deserve the right and the respect to create discrete spaces away from biological men without being bullied by biological men into having these boundaries removed for the gratification of men.

If I were them I'd close down, set up again as a private invitation only site and charge uninvited self-referrals...I dunno...five thousand pounds?... to join. Whatever the cost of their payment to him was.

Do not underestimate how much men (as a sex class) despise women (as a sex class) and want to see us subordinate in every single way possible. Our world made small, our rights eviscerated, our safety, comfort, and freedoms doled out in tiny parcels, at the whim of the men who seek to own us.

Do. Not. Underestimate. Them.

HerbalBovril · 23/08/2024 14:55

What a bloody joke. Really thought common sense would prevail on this one.

PraiseTheSunshine · 23/08/2024 14:55

It's very upsetting news and I'm disgusted that we've reached this point. Sall is an amazing woman and if it's possible to appeal this decision then I really hope she does.

TheSingingBean · 23/08/2024 14:56

I followed the trial and am not surprised by the verdict. Sickened, but not surprised. What's happening in Australia is terrifying.

I honestly fear for my daughter and granddaughters' future, the way things are going. It's Orwellian.

SensibleSigma · 23/08/2024 14:56

Any man that changes sex needs to get to a GP immediately for medical investigation!

Ms PillowfightsWhatFun! clearly doesn’t belong in women’s spaces as evidenced by his determination to get in them.

RentySpenty · 23/08/2024 14:32

Roxxie Tickle. Really? 🤨

Yeah - Tickle versus Giggle. The name is as barmy as the case

Helleofabore · 23/08/2024 14:57

It is very concerning.

I’m really confused now. If Giggle is for women only then what is this thread all about? Did she do an about-face at some point?

Yes, she did a 180 and has talked in depth about why her views changed on various podcasts. I like her.

stickygotstuck · 23/08/2024 14:59

Oh FFS Australia!

An here I was, thinking judges had to be of reasonably average intelligence.

benefitstaxcredithelp · 23/08/2024 14:59

Yes op the world has gone mad!

How has this been though a court?! One entitled male wants to access a women’s only space and has been legally allowed!! If he was a real woman he’d not act so entitled and wouldn’t want to make other people (women) feel so uncomfortable. Just would not happen.

Why oh why is always us that must accommodate and pander to men 😭

autumnisme · 23/08/2024 14:59

It's so disappointing and absolutely blows my mind that an actual judge can come to this conclusion. Scary times ahead in Aus

GiveMeSpanakopita · 23/08/2024 15:02

He may've won his case but he's still not going to get any dates with lesbians, is he.

EasternStandard · 23/08/2024 14:14

consistently found sex is “changeable and not necessarily binary”

I mean we really are in trouble with this, from a judge

Appalling

Startrekkeruniverse · 23/08/2024 15:04

Glad to see I’m not the only one who thinks this is insane!!

Interesting that 17 of the 174 people who have voted in the AIBU vote so far think I AM being unreasonable….you are the people who are eroding women’s rights in front of our eyes!

OP posts:
MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/08/2024 15:05

It's so dangerous when a society tries to enshrine a lie into law. It's impossible to change sex. No matter how much you protest, argue or bully - sex is immutable. The fact that so many allegedly intelligent and powerful people have bought into this lie is terrifying - especially for the future of our daughters.

Mymanyellow · 23/08/2024 15:06

A actual fucking judge. How can an intelligent judge say this, he can’t believe this he just can’t.
Baffling.

I don't suppose you remember the name of the podcasts? I'd love to listen. I'm 100% behind her, this is all so insane - and honestly outside of X and Mumsnet hardly anybody seems to know about it (trans issues in general, not this case specifically). It's scary.

Yep. My (otherwise) very intelligent daughter told me there were over a hundred sexes. I had to remind her that we had to pay to get her GCSE Biology exam re-marked and the exam board refused to bump it up to a C.

SidewaysOtter · 23/08/2024 15:09

Well, it’s not great news but it does put the issue of “what is a woman” back in the spotlight. Remember, Maya lost her first employment tribunal case - the one that considered whether gender critical views were Worthy Of Respect In A Democratic Society (WORIADS) - but won on appeal and established legal precedent.

So we double down, fund any appeal and ensure that any other cases in other jurisdiction get funded too. And the outrage (the poll here is currently 90/10 that this is the wrong decision) is heartening. I should imagine that the media coverage will be significant.

Sunlight is always good, even if it comes from behind a cloud.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 23/08/2024 15:10

It's a disappointing outcome but Sall Grover has said for ages that whatever the High Court decided she expected it to go to appeal. But it'll be a dark day for women if the Supreme Court agrees with the High Court that biological women should not be allowed to have anything just for themselves ever.

Yes, Sall Grover peaked harder than anyone has ever peaked in the history of gender critical feminism.

Yirk · 23/08/2024 15:13

I really hope the appeal is successful, this insanity must surely stop!! FFS

I really don’t understand why some Professors of Biology (or whatever their professional titles would be in Australia), don’t sit down with judges, lawyers, politicians etc and explain, in simple biological terms, what SEX is. With diagrams. And how the reproductive system works! Explain how men and women are identified when they are born. Did these people not have biology lessons at school?

Then explain GENDER IDENTITY is…

Is it really that difficult?!

They can't explain what gender identity is in a way that makes any sense whatsoever. No one can. There's a reason for that.
