Sorry if the title is slightly misleading! 😆

My partner has bought a 65 inch tv and it is bloody huge !

We are redecorating out living room and I was so excited that I could finally have my Neptune like room. Something stylish and calm and inviting.

I now have the monster on my wall ! And I have it :(

I now have no idea how to stylus around it !! Any ideas??

I am feeling unreasonably upset about this and I just can’t get over it.

our room is only 4m x 3.5m so not a large room at all

AIBU?

help me to her over it please or share tips to make the room work

Really disappointed this thread is about a monster telly.

EliflurtleAndTheInfiniteMadness · 03/08/2024 23:35

LTB. I was very happy for our giant TV to go with stbxh when he moved out, my new much smaller one works so much better in the room.

TennisLady · 03/08/2024 23:37

I didn’t realise people hated big TVs so much! I personally can’t stand small TVs… what’s the point in them? You do very quickly get used to a larger TV and they are so much better.
Maybe it’s because I’m very short sighted though?

Tristar15 · 03/08/2024 22:56

Big televisions are chavvy and having them on the wall is even more chavvy so I get that you’re upset. You’ll have to get him to change it.

Oh dear God, it's so common of you to judge people by the size of their tvs🙄

Willowkins · 03/08/2024 23:45

Ooh what's the problem with having a TV on the wall? I much prefer that to having a big TV unit with cupboards and the like. Also, that gives me more room for the piano.

Lilacapples · 03/08/2024 23:47

Oh dear I’m not averse to a big TV. We have a 50 inch in our kitchen but our kitchen is huge!

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 03/08/2024 23:49

I hate gigantic TVs even in a large room, I especially hate big TVs on the wall above the fireplace, surely it must crick your neck looking up all the time.
I recently changed my perfectly fine 32" for a 43", was persuaded by adult son to go a bit larger, which isn't actually that much larger overall because it has a very narrow frame, I like it because it has a great picture and I can read subtitles without my glasses.
I definitely wouldn't want a larger one in my 6m x 4m room.
This made me think of my first ever TV which I bought with money from my holiday job, 12" black and white portable, had it for years all through university and beyond!

Get him to trade it in for a Samsung Frame TV which displays Art when not in use.

Love these

GoldShinyPJs · 04/08/2024 00:05

I hate our television, its too large for the room, it’s also fixed to a bracket, low down on the wall, for no good reason.

Maybe one day it will fall off and break

I had no say in its purchase, it just appeared one day

And my DVD player and programme recorder were taken away.

Our old television, was the correct size.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 04/08/2024 00:11

If this hasn't already been mentioned. Get a set of red velvet curtains, for the full theatrical effect. 😅

CoralKoala · 04/08/2024 00:12

If it’s any consolation OP, my husband bought his “dream TV” … 77inch recently. The fact it doesn’t fit the chimney breast and comes out on both sides is making me squirm but at least he is happy 😃 compromises and all..

ILoveToCleanSaidNooneEver · 04/08/2024 00:12

I'd gladly not have a TV at all. All my DH does is moan about the bloody TV licence and what shit there is on Netflix, and then when I go to cancel it all, he has no input other than he loves to watch the bloody TV.

Give me a radio any day.

MrsCobbit · 04/08/2024 00:20

The bigger the box the fewer the books…

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 04/08/2024 00:28

I thought this thread was gonna be about that French pole vaulter, 😂

The bigger the box the fewer the books…

I'm a single mom with a huge TV and plenty of books.

It has the option to be a painting so I use it as that during parties.

People are weirdly judgemental of TV sizes.

Lolol

Because it can be a picture of painting?

MrsCobbit · 04/08/2024 00:40

Among other things…

fuckingbastard · 04/08/2024 00:45

At that time of the night and that type of title, I sure was awake for a good laugh. But I will keep the jokes under the belt. It's a tough one. Is it possible to retire the monster to another room ?

....in winter, above your fireplace, you have a video of a fire in a fireplace....

So - among other questions - is it weirder if you also have a real fire going, or when you have video going of a fire above a fireplace with no fire in it?

I hadn’t thought about it until now but it is weird to have a fire on the TV and not in the fireplace! It’s one of those fake fireplaces on a fake chimney breast that’s only a few inches deep and isn’t actually big enough for an electric fire. I don’t really know why the previous house owner bothered! At least the TV provides some cosiness even if my strange empty (but not actually empty because there’s no hole) fireplace doesn’t

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 04/08/2024 00:57

When our old 42 inch tv was dying we were debating what size we would buy next. We decided on a 55 inch Samsung Frame, but ended up with the 65 inch as there was a sale. I absolutely love it, some of the art is so beautiful, I never tire of looking at it. So I highly recommend that, I think there is a similar cheaper model out now (Hitachi?).

SAF55 · 04/08/2024 01:03

What a bloody reach! ‘Your husband bought a huge tv, leave him’! What is wrong with MN- 9/10 times, no matter the issue, the response is leave them! If you cannot answer the OP then keep scrolling. She asked how to accept it or how to decorate around it.

PointsSouth · 03/08/2024 23:18

I'm not keen on big TVs either.

But what does it say about the owners?

Presumably it says they can afford it and you can’t.

TequilaNights · 04/08/2024 07:35

You will get uses to is pretty quickly.

We did ours, at first it looked ridiculous, now I love having a big screen to watch a film on.

JudgeJ · 03/08/2024 21:49

If she's foisted it on you then let her hoist it up the wall! You may be lucky, she may break it.

Unfortunately we’re not TV on the wall kind of people although if she wanted it on the wall, I imagine it would be done one way or another - she managed to set it up on her own (put the base on and lifted it onto the unit) despite strict instructions from the two gents who delivered it that it was a 2-person job
