Sorry if the title is slightly misleading! 😆

My partner has bought a 65 inch tv and it is bloody huge !

We are redecorating out living room and I was so excited that I could finally have my Neptune like room. Something stylish and calm and inviting.

I now have the monster on my wall ! And I have it :(

I now have no idea how to stylus around it !! Any ideas??

I am feeling unreasonably upset about this and I just can’t get over it.

our room is only 4m x 3.5m so not a large room at all

AIBU?

help me to her over it please or share tips to make the room work

I agree that a massive tv looks awful in the room but it's actually lovely to watch. A friend of mine, who had a Neptune-like style has a tall built in unit with a false back on it that slides up to reveal the tv.

Bellatrixpure · 03/08/2024 21:37

Aww, disappointed this isn’t a thread by the French pole vaulter from today

desperatedaysareover · 03/08/2024 21:37

I recently saw a 60 inch Sony Bravia in a Costco and I’m not going to lie, I had a mad moment of thinkin whoah yeah I like it. I am also a snobby do-we-really-need-a-telly person. A photo of the room might assist?

Adviceneeeeded · 03/08/2024 21:38

We have a 75 on the wall but it's a very long wall. With the right bracket size, it's fine!

AInightingale · 03/08/2024 21:42

What is a Neptune-like room?

PaminaMozart · 03/08/2024 21:43

I am truly puzzled by the responses here. Why are most of you focusing on the SIZE of the bloody TV - instead of the fact that he did not consider it necessary to DISCUSS such a major purchase... not only in terms of its effect on their shared living space but also the cost!

PerfectTravelTote · 03/08/2024 21:44

Another idea that can be very successful is to paint the wall behind it in balck or charcoal so that the tv blends into the wall when it's turned off .

Paint the wall behind it black or some other dark colour. The TV will blend in better when turned off.

UneFoisAuChalet · 03/08/2024 21:44

We have a 65” one. I say we, but it’s actually his. We had the last thing (50 something) on the wall because I found it too big back in 2012 and we had little ones who would touch the telly when Igglepiggle would appear.

I did not want the new one - purchased this year - on the wall but he disappeared to Curry’s and came back with the monstrosity (and a subwoofer!). We redecorated and after trying many different angles in our very large living room, I had to concede that the only way forward was to position it on the wall.

It’s shit. But it’s the only thing he’s purchased that he really wants, so I let it go. He didn’t get a say on the kitchen island or the new carpet. Pick your battles.

Er I'm female and love a huge telly !!

I’m male and have to put up with the ridiculously large TV my wife has foisted upon us.

I personally prefer the 32” we used to have

Lwrenn · 03/08/2024 21:33

Ffs I thought it was going to be about a penis.

Because I wanted to be the first to point out that on mumsnet we all have adonis husbands with six figure salaries and 65 inch penises and that's nothing special, @Itssobig! But bloody tvs, how boring 😴

And I'm sure you are not the only one, such a disappointing thread after that!

Ireolu · 03/08/2024 21:48

We have 65 inch but not mounted (not fans). DH now wants 85 inches....

Whaleandsnail6 · 03/08/2024 21:48

How much input has he had in the decorating of the room?

If this is the one thing he has chosen, and you've pretty much picked everything else, I'd try and make my peace with it, its obviously important to him and it is equally both your room. I thought our TV was too big when we got it, I'm used to it now.

If he's had lots of say in other styling of the room and there has already been lots of joint decisions or compromise, I'd be more forceful in arguing to switch it for a smaller one.

Namechangejust · 03/08/2024 21:48

Grim …nothing else to say!

If she's foisted it on you then let her hoist it up the wall! You may be lucky, she may break it.

What is a Neptune-like room?

This is what I want to know too. None the wiser after clicking on the Neptune link - a room that has furniture?

Runnerinthenight · 03/08/2024 21:51

I would hate a huge TV dominating the room!!

Dita73 · 03/08/2024 21:51

I have a 72 and want an 85. Yes they’re tacky as tits but I love my big telly! No fucks given

OrangeFurever · 03/08/2024 21:51

I’m gutted, was hoping for a thread on that French Olympic diver with the massive appendage

PerfectTravelTote · 03/08/2024 21:52

At 85 inches you may as well call it a cinema and be done with it.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 03/08/2024 21:53

My dm said she couldn’t see the tv, so my fb went out and bought a 65” tv. Passive aggressive, but she loved it until she passed.

Because maybe they can afford it?
