To dismiss a guy pursuing me, because he likes metal music?

LilacCatt · 02/08/2024 20:13

A nice guy is pursuing me. I don't know him much yet, but he is nice so far.

Something that is making me have 2nd thoughts though... Is that he loves metal music.

I frigging hate metal music.

I like pop, rock, reggae, soul, house, disco, grunge, classical.... Anything but metal. I cant bear to listen to even 30 seconds of metal. To me, it sounds totally demonic. I cannot comprehend why someone would want to listen to that.

I spend a large portion of every day with music playing.

This guy says he listens to metal 80% of the time.

I'd love to meet someone who I can really vibe and dance with, and just enjoy listening to the same music together.

AIBU to dismiss a guy for his music tastes? Even if he is a nice guy, respectful, handsome, very sporty/muscly...?

Yes that would be a weird thing to dismiss someone for.

cardibach · 02/08/2024 20:16

Thinking any music is ‘demonic’ is a bit weird.
I do think musical compatibility can be important though.

3CustardCreams · 02/08/2024 20:17

You can dismiss a romantic relationship for any reason you like. Any.

cupcaske123 · 02/08/2024 20:18

You'd be mad to give someone up because of their music taste. Most people into metal are very cool.🤘

coastalhawk · 02/08/2024 20:18

Know what you mean but def give him a chance imo if you like him - and talk to him about it (humorously)

gamerchick · 02/08/2024 20:20

Tbf I would dismiss anyone who plays music for 80% of the time. It would royally do my head in.

You can not date anyone for any reason you want.

Soubriquet · 02/08/2024 20:21

Very weird. I love metal, rock and alternative. Dh doesn’t. Funnily enough, we haven’t let music tastes come between us. He listens to his shit when he’s alone, and I listen to my stuff when I’m alone

Flyonthewall01 · 02/08/2024 20:21

Just because he loves metal doesn’t mean he doesn’t like other genres. He will still dance around your kitchen with you 🙄

cocoloco23 · 02/08/2024 20:21

Is that ALL he listens to? Would he listen to stuff you (both) like when you’re together?

coldcallerbaiter · 02/08/2024 20:22

Don’t be ridiculous

Suitcasesthree · 02/08/2024 20:22

I doubt Mr Metal man will want you when you describe his taste in music as demonic. 🤣🤣
Fwiw, most metal fans and musicians are the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 02/08/2024 20:24

Music is really important to me and I have it on all the time at home so I could not be with someone who wanted to listen to metal all the time.

Also I call James headphones because they give me a headache.

I wouldn't start a relationship with someone who only like metal because it would not last.

Sitdownrosa · 02/08/2024 20:25

My dh loves metal, i don't. He's the best person I've ever met - kind, generous, caring, patient, empathetic, a fab listener, does way more than me around the house, amazing with our kids, works hard - good job i didn't discount him on the basis of different taste in music!

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 02/08/2024 20:26

Very much depends, it suggest a different tolerance to noise I think.

DH is really noisy, drives me mad. Has headphones in when he’s walking the dog, tv on far too loud and mad wailing from his study all the time. Madly irritating.

Woahtherehoney · 02/08/2024 20:26

Music compatibility can be important but isn’t the be all and end all. Me and my ex had the exact same taste in music, but he was a knob. Me and my now fiancé have totally different music tastes and yet he’s the love of my life.

just give the guy a chance.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 02/08/2024 20:26

My partner is into metal. I am not. I'm into fashion. He is not (and it showed 😂). At first I let those things really affect my feelings towards him and I told myself that made us incompatible. Until my friends gave me a virtual slap and now down the line I'm with the most wonderful, kind, caring, lovely man I've ever met who has treated me the best I've ever been treated ☺️.
He's got his pals to go to those gigs with.

Divebar2021 · 02/08/2024 20:27

How many other prospects do you have ?

SilenceInside · 02/08/2024 20:27

When you say "metal" what sort of bands do you mean? I would have said that if you like rock music then heavy metal isn't too far away from that. But if it's more like thrash or death metal then maybe I can see your point.

My bill is an absolute heavy metal nut, drives my sister insane at times but he is truly one of the nicest people you could meet a really gentle kind person. He says heavy metal helps him relax, don’t get it myself as it makes my ears bleed.

Don’t write the guy off just yet, I’m
sure you’ll find a way round things if he’s the right one for you.

Erm. I do get a few offers, like.

DH is a metal lover. Everyone always says ‘you wouldn’t know it to look at him’ 😂 we have very different music tastes but some bands we both like and go to see live etc.

If there’s a heavy metal gig he wants to go to he’ll often go alone, or with his other metal friend. He listens to his music on his headphones whilst washing up, walking the dog or on his work break.

Never been an issue for us, we’ve been together 15 years.

What does demonic sound like? It’s just an odd word to choose.

CormorantStrikesBack · 02/08/2024 20:32

Dh likes no music whatsoever. It doesn’t stop me listening to stuff.
