Aibu to agree to an extent?

German refugee charity warns 'integration has FAILED'

In a bombshell interview, staff at a leading youth organisation in Germany have said the continuing influx of refugees means the system is at breaking point. They called for a 'freeze' in admissions.

How safe do you think Muslims in Southport feel now with regard to practising their religion, OP? I assume that you will unreservedly condemn the riots outside the mosque last night?

ginasevern · 31/07/2024 14:50

@Lalalalalaaaa

"for the majority of the countries which are listed as 'extreme' the risk to Christians isn't because they're Christian, but because they've converted from Islam."

So that's OK then, is it? They've only got themselves to blame.

Christianity is indeed the most persectured religion in the world - not least of all in Islamic countries. Nigeria has the highest rate of murders against Christians with Christian women and girls frequently reserved for rape and trafficking. In Pakistan Christians are referred to as "chura" which means filthy. Here they are treated as inferior human beings on every level of society including education, employment and health care. In Palestine Christians are spat on and shunned and again, treated as second class citizens. The last Christian book store in Gaza for example was firebombed in 2007 and the elderly couple who ran it were executed. In Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Iran (amongst others) being a Christian is tantamount to a death sentence.

Lilysgoneshopping · 31/07/2024 14:50

Why is it that anything negative about some ethnicities is automatically denounced as a lie?
People know what they know and see what they see, and live where they live

JaneVtwaddle · 31/07/2024 14:51

Dulra

Any immigration has to be at a manageable level, they need support, and assimilation for the well b being of the country.

Any government 1st responsibility is to it's citizens.
Germany went to fast and didn't think of the consequences.

If you plonked me in Saudi without much support I would rather be with people who talk my language, like the same food, and are familiar to me.
Is it a surprise these youngsters are falling in with gangs.

Volume. Most immigrant debate is about manageable volume.

They don't know the meaning of the word, are too ignorant & arrogant to get the definition. Much easier for them to shout "bigot", "racist" & "far right" every opportunity they get.

I think she was taking about you…

Mimififi · 31/07/2024 14:55

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 31/07/2024 14:44

No, of course people aren't racists and bigots because I say they are. If only I had that much influence!

People are racists and bigots because they choose to be.

There is a tremendous irony in your statement that "words matter". It is pretty obvious that many of us are posting on your thread precisely because we know just how much words matter. And we know that it is important to counter certain words and statements with different ones.

I am not entirely sure why you think it is defamatory to call someone a racist if they are actually a racist, but you will note that I have not in fact called anyone a racist on this thread. Of course, if people think the cap fits...

Well you did use the terms racists & bigots. People are absolutely entitled to their opinions on immigration & how it is handled, taxpayers in particular as we fund it so need it to work.
Questioning how our taxpayers money is being spent & if it is being spent correctly is the right thing to do.
The daily mail article refers to charities in Germany highlighting the problems in Germany which actually makes for very interesting discussion which obviously involves some maturity on the part of some.
I'm referring to those whose
language is limited to using the slurs "racist, bigot, far right" for anyone who dares have a different opinion & those who have a curiosity about how exactly things are going in regards to mass immigration.

Have you ever met or talked to a Palestinian Christian? I know a few (different backgrouds / families) and they speak very fondly of their homeland and living with their Palestinian Muslim and Jewish neighbours.

What’s your view on the stupid owning their stupidity? Any chance of that any time soon?

I wouldn't know, but I wouldn't think so.

What's your expert opinion on the matter?

Jubileetime · 31/07/2024 14:57

A big problem with what is happening just now is the debate is shut down and views dismissed as far right, the difference in the comments and the voting is very interesting

cupcaske123 · 31/07/2024 14:44

That isn't true. We've had centuries of immigration to the UK by people who have integrated successfully.

Indeed. Balanced by the recent decades of people who haven't

I'm horrified, the events last night were shocking. It's scary the way it escalated so quickly. At the end of the day the riots last night have completely overshadowed the three little girls who were murdered & the others stabbed who are in a critical condition. Thoughts & prayers with them all & their families. I know one of the little girls mum was begging for calm last night😢

I don't feel that the violent thugs who started rioting in Southport last night are particularly well integrated in British society and I definitely don't feel they reflect my values - can I send them back somewhere?

How many decades are we talking? Enoch Powell era, National Front era, BNP era or EDL era? Or possibly the full Oswald Mosley?

I am now convinced that the purpose of this thread and so many like it is to be as exhausting as possible so that The Left gradually give up the will to fight for a just world. Spoiler: we won’t give up.

Why is the left apparently so scared to confront the blatantly unjust, un-progressive, intolerant, misogynistic, abusive and in many cases, fascistic ideas and behaviours promoted within certain sections of society eg. Muslim fundamentalism? Not all of it comes from immigrants, there are also British-born fundamentalists & converts, their leftist enablers, and crossovers with other left wing, extremist, totalitarian cults such as Antifa & TRAs who obviously have many shared aims eg. misogyny, disregard for child safeguarding and a totalitarian desire to shut down peaceful, democratic free speech. People are sick of this hypocrisy on the left. You say you want a just world, but you seem extremely selective about who you think is worthy of justice & human rights.

Yes, I did use the term racists and bigots, because I see a great deal of racism and bigotry on these boards. I make no apology for telling the truth as I see it, and if individuals conclude that my comments are about them, then they might want to reflect on why they consider it likely that I would be describing them in that way.

I have no issue whatsoever with people taking a different view on immigration and I am happy to have a reasonable debate about it, if people prove themselves to be capable of doing so without resorting to racist tropes and dog whistles. Words such as "racist" are not intended as insults or slurs, they are intended as factual descriptions of the types of statements and behaviours that people are observing.

There may well be points that are worthy of debate in the article that you have been promoting, but given that it is published by a right wing newspaper with a very openly racist agenda, you surely can't be expecting this to lead to a reasonable and rational debate?

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 31/07/2024 15:08

It’s the same across Europe and elsewhere.

The UK is no different - unfettered immingration is tearing countries, and communities apart.
