We need the security services to shut the group down when they are carrying out what can be described as terrorist methods to influence govt policy.

They a bunch of absolute cunts and I hope those responsible are locked up. No group has managed to turn me off their cause more effectively.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 19/06/2024 20:01

Agree.

Blackcats7 · 19/06/2024 20:02

Whilst I don’t think their methods are right I don’t agree that they are terrorists. They target things not people.

KimberleyClark · 19/06/2024 20:04

Stonehenge really should be off limits for these people. It represents the most remote human past of these islands.

Fucking hell. Things can't change policy. People can.
They are ruining priceless artifacts. What will that achieve apart from turning people against them?

CassandraWebb · 19/06/2024 20:05

I am so incredibly disappointed in them. I am an absolutely passionate environmentalist and this just seems the most profoundly stupid act of vandalism

KatyaKabanova · 19/06/2024 20:06

They're vandals. Why aren't they stopped from doing all this damage.
It should be a proscribed terrorist group.

I understand your point but the view of Lord Carlile of Berriew Q.C

"“The use of serious violence against persons or property, or threat to use such violence, to intimidate or coerce a government, the public or any section of the public, in order to promote political, social or ideological objectives.”

Yes, of course they're terrorists. They'll destroy anything to make their point.
They don't care.

Blimpton · 19/06/2024 20:09

We cannot have people vandalising public property. The government needs to throw the book at them. Swift action will stop this escalating.

MrsFinkelstein · 19/06/2024 20:10

I completely agree with the need to address climate change and for Govts to implement effective policies.

I've never known of a group to put me off an environmental campaign like Just Stop Oil have. (Though Fossil Free Books are now making a good attempt).

They're actually harming their cause now. Arrests and serious consequences need to start happening.

Chester23 · 19/06/2024 20:10

I dont understand why they think all the stupid things they do will make people want to support them

Hateam · 19/06/2024 20:10

In past they have gone for targets that are connected to the oil industry- even if it is just a sponsorship deal.

This represents a new form of stupid from an organisation that does stupid rather well.

KatyaKabanova · 19/06/2024 20:11

Because they're totally self absorbed and don't care what people think.
They think they're right, and that's it

Pippippip2024 · 19/06/2024 20:11

Won’t it all just wash off when it rains though?

Allfur · 19/06/2024 20:12

Whilst the world burns, you're worried about a bit of paint on some old rocks, and I love stone henge

AutumnCrow · 19/06/2024 20:12

It worries me that they'll vandalise Avebury, Hadrian's Wall, Skara Brae, anywhere really ...

I mean, Hadrian's Wall is about 80 miles long. The Wall and the forts & milecastles can't be protected 24 hours a day. Its protection relies on public trust.

I wonder if Just Stop Oil saw the public outcry and publicity over Sycamore Gap, and thought to themselves, 'That looks like a good idea?'

BooBooButts · 19/06/2024 20:14

Part of me hopes they get a massive diesel-fuelled lorry full of ridiculously toxic cleaning solution in to help clean Stonehenge. Ideally an oil-based cleaning solution.

Absolute idiots.

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 19/06/2024 20:14

Absolute morons.

I firmly believe we need to stop
using fossil fuels, and adopt radical change.

Making these wankers fuel human treadmills for 10 years as hard labour might be a good start.

KatyaKabanova · 19/06/2024 20:14

The world isn't burning. Some parts of the world have conflict, that's not new.
Stonehenge is of cultural and historical significance. They're like the Taliban, wanting to destroy things of value and beauty.

I feel exactly the same way.
It actually really upset me seeing them deface such an ancient site. Total stupidity and arrogance. It also does absolutely nothing to spread their message -such behaviour infuriates the majority and ensures that nobody will listen.

I believe so. It's powder paint.
