We’ll likely match the shift in some EU countries until the cause of pressure is looked at

I think it was inevitable but how long politicians can hold out on the pressure we’ll see

It’s a bit different here as no PR

I wish the people who think Farage is wonderful would spend a bit of time reflecting on the fact that he didn't mention Brexit during the debate last night. Weird that. Defined his life's ambition but he doesn't try to leverage it. I wonder why....?

Excellent point.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 08/06/2024 20:06

@ExtraOnions

Seen 2 videos today, from the town down the road .. In one a Reform candidate was saying that he decided to stand after he saw the number of foreign people at the airport (for foreign read “non white”), it was pointed out that many of these people were tourists or British people coming fro abroad .. to which he had no answer.

Foreign people at an airport - who would have thought it ! 🙄
It would be laughable if if wasn't so worrying that people think like this. And even more so that others will vote for them.

And agree with others the rise in the far right across Europe is worrying .

Classism at its best. And possibly also ableism.

Elites desperate to keep the great unwashed in their place. And this is why so many despise Farage. He seems to give voice to the people the elites think should have none.

1 in 6 people in England & Wales weren't born here.

Do you seriously think that adding that many people in a short space of time (7m in the last 20 years alone) doesn't have an effect on things like demand for housing/hospital beds, GP/dentist appointments?

Very few here are thinking - heaven forbid - it’s just virtue signalling.

we need more small boats landing, and the occupants forcible housed with every mumsnetter before anyone will see what the consequences are.

Not quite got the salute right yet

But if illegal immigration is high on your voting agenda, why back Reform/Farage?

The huge rise in illegal immigration (and particularly by boat) is a direct result of Brexit.

Reform do not currently have any workable policies to reduce illegal immigration - as Farage himself has admitted. He’s promising he’ll come up with some soon….

Yes, he’s voicing your complaints- but he also helped cause them in the first place and doesn’t have any solutions.

FOJN · 08/06/2024 20:41

Does it bother you that Reform don’t currently have any realistic policies for dealing with illegal immigration? Don’t take my word for it; it’s something Farage admits as much:

The Reform website has details of their current immigration policy. Using a news publication with a known left wing bias when Reform policies are freely available tells about nothing more than your own political leanings. You can take issue with their policies but it's inaccurate to say they don't have one on immigration.

There’s nothing elitist about apostrophes. A true patriot would know how to use their language. This is not a serious comment BTW.

I don’t see how leaving the ECHR has a bearing on this though. Why are they so keen to do that ?

Reform won’t get a single seat. Thankfully the nutters that vote for them aren’t compos mentis enough to garner support. They’ll just sit in their living rooms shouting about brown people taking their jobs and getting gifted free mansions by Keir 😂

A quick read of mumsnet and that’s what people thought about brexit voters. Guess who didn’t bother voting? 🤪(I agree many people who voted Brexit were racist, but they actually turned up!)

I listened to the Farage interview when it was broadcast - it was him that said that certain of the policies on the page you’re linking to are not workable.

He says he’s only just become leader so he’ll need time to come up with new policies to replace the ones currently on Reform’s website. Given that he owns Reform UK (remember - it’s a privately owned company, not a normal party), I think “but I’ve only just become leader” is a poor excuse.

Oooooooodieeeee · 08/06/2024 20:56

I think it’s good they are gaining popularity as they will split the Tory vote leading Labour to a landslide. Whilst I’m not overly keen on any of them at the moment, at least Kier is a proper grown up, with intelligence, values and integrity and who does care about people more than the other options. If we had a Green Party candidate that had a hope in hell of getting in I’d vote green but mainly I want the current corrupt, heartless, hopeless lot out and reform will help with that.

Most of Mumsnet live in nice 5 bed houses in villages untroubled by this so find it easier to virtue signal how nice they are and call anyone with actual life experience "racist"

Pippippip2024 · 08/06/2024 21:03

loce him or loathe him Nigel Farage is one of the most successful politicians in history (Brexit!). I’m not surprised people will now be voting reform.

He's never been selected and he's stood 7 times before now!

Brexit was not just down to Farage either. Much of the press drove that, along with Boris & Dominic

Pippippip2024 · 08/06/2024 21:09

@Collywobblewobbles na he’s Mr Brexit! He’s also an incredible orator - probably the best I’ve seen. Shame about the content though…

Fascism is a union of big private capital and the government.

Keeping borders open so that big business has unfettered access to cheap labour and subsidising low wages with taxpayer’s money is a lot closer to fascism.

I thought the last time Nigel was on the campaign trail, the Mumsnet demographic was allegedly Liberal Metropolitan elite ? Have they all moved ? Wink

He said secure detention for all asylum seekers wasn't very practical, that is only one element of Reforms immigration policy.

And detention at British Overseas Territories (their alternative to Rwanda).

City or countryside it doesn't matter, we all know most mumsnetters are wealthy and probably don't live in the "multicultural diverse" places they claim to love.

Some on this site love virtue signalling until their precious labour mentioned taxing private school and now there's about 50 active threads moaning about it
