@brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
i don't know who issued the software update which made everyone start harping on about Reform having a company, but are we allowed to look at who runs The Conservative Party Foundation Ltd, or Labour Party Properties Ltd?

LPPL is especially fun if you're a fan of companies paying no tax for years on £5m+ of rental properties.

All political parties - except for Reform Ltd - have a published constitution.

Where’s Reform’s ? What’s their governance, who keeps them accountable to their donors and “members” ?

I don’t know why people defend the NHS so much when it’s so shit. Perhaps it worked in the 1940s when it was conceived and we had a much smaller population, but it has had millions pumped into it for years and it’s dreadful. It’s not fit for purpose, nobody can get a GP appointment, wait times at our local A&E are 12+ hours at non-peak times!! Most people I’ve spoken to have had awful experiences. I wish people would stop saying it’s free. IT IS NOT FREE! We pay for it out of our taxes!!

My DH pays £80k a year in tax, I’d rather save some of his tax money and invest in a private system that actually works.

Privatisation for profit is absurd. That’s what Reform plans.

And what would people do if they can’t afford to pay? Have you seen ‘Sicko’ the movie? People die because they have no medical insurance. Would you like to reintroduce workhouses too? Maybe public hanging for minor crimes like stealing food because you are starving? May be we should strip working men and all women of their vote too?

It's not all or nothing with the NHS. We could look to European countries to see how their systems work, ie Germany, France.

Alternatively we could look at how France and Germany manage this issue while delivering a far higher standard of care. I don't know the details of their model but my Portuguese friend and Swiss cousin also speak highly of their healthcare system.

If public provision was better, I'd happily part pay as I wouldn't need to pay for private healthcare as I do now. There are millions of people in the same boat. And lower social economic groups benefit from better healthcare.

I hate to say it but the NHS is doomed. We need to stop focusing on the US system and be more open minded to seeing whether the models in other European countries would work better.

TikiTikiBoo · 23/06/2024 10:22

Spain only treats you for free if you are paying in. Everything is linked to an identifying number like the NI number. You have to give this number for pretty much everything, setting up a bill, setting up your tax payments, setting up your health care account. And health care is only given if you are paying in, or have paid in sufficiently, show an EHIC card. If you don't have these, you pay on the spot.

Why can't we have this? It will weed the illegals out and also stop/curb benefit fraud.

The government know or can know everything about us if they want anyway so privacy is a bullshit excuse to oppose an ID card at this point.

If the free money, healthcare and housing dried up, we'd be a lot less attractive to all these illegal migrants. Otherwise they'd be aiming to stop in the numerous EU countries they pass through to get to the UK.

Labour owns £5m of property? Gasp! That's 2.5 houses in Central London. Brazen hypocrites 😂

What housing and health care, never mind 'free money'. The shocking state of the public sector is a big part of the Tories imminent annihilation ffs .

Agree. People always mention the American system as if it were the only possible alternative to the NHS, but there are other options.
The insurance based system in Germany seems to be working quite well.
I lived there for a while, and during that time it was possible to ring your GP in the morning and see them the same day (or the next, if less urgent).
You could also see a specialist without being referred first, so if you had a skin condition you made an appointment with a dermatologist and didn’t need to faff around mailing pictures of your condition to your GP.
Same with paediatricians, gynaecologists, gastroenterologists and so on.
Oh, and you could also get a dentist appointment without having to pay for everything yourself.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 23/06/2024 11:42

It’s not just the Ltd Company per se, but the lack of transparency on their governance. How do they hold their candidates and future MPs to account and how do they spend their donor’s money ? All other parties publish a written constitution which details these things:

Conservative Constitution

Labour Rule Book 2024

Lib Dem Constitution

Green Party Constitution

Opaque Russian-funded destabilising shady shysters stealing easily led people’s votes with lies to put Putin’s influence in Parliament. Opacity helps to cover their tracks.

So how does it work if you can’t work and can’t afford to pay insurance? How about for long term conditions that need constant meds like Type 1 diabetes? Curious as I know very little about European models.

WantToMakeWorldSilkySmooth · 10/06/2024 04:50

You can't relate because it's not really muslim issue. It's more cultural issue within certain ethnicities.

It’s a poverty thing.

My friend’s mum moved from Pakistan to attend Oxbridge. She went on to be incredibly successful in business and has been recognised in the Queen’s honours list (a couple of times I believe).

Culture / religion - none of it matters as much as money.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/06/2024 12:30

I'm amazed Farage showed his Russian colours before the election, tbh. I thought he was smarter than that.

In Germany, there are two types of health insurance - the statutory public one and the private one.
Private health insurance primarily caters to higher-income earners, self-employed individuals and civil servants.
The majority of the population is insured by the public insurance.
If I’m not mistaken, if you become unemployed and receive unemployment benefits you are automatically covered by the public health insurance. The contributions in this case will be paid by the Federal employment agency.
Contributions to your public health insurance are based on your income, so chronic health conditions don’t have an impact on the cost.

We know about the right having success in Hungary, Poland and Austria, but they're gaining in Sweden too.

France? Italy?

Seeing as it’s her DHs money and clearly she earns none of her own, I’m certain she’d be singing from an alternative hymn sheet if he ever left her.

I’m also surprised he made such a misstep and exposed who backs him. He spends so much time in the US sucking up to other Putin stooges like Bannon, he momentarily forgot he was being interviewed in the UK.

Ah ok. So if you earn more, you pay more but if you have nothing you still can access free healthcare? Sounds ok. Although why do people pay for private healthcare and are the outcomes different?
