To think that people who spend £45 on a Stanley cup need their heads examined?

More specifically for a primary aged child who is likely to lose or damage the cup? £45? Absolute madness. Some parents just can’t seem to see their kids go without the latest trend.

Nah, I've got loads and my head is perfectly fine! Would also buy for a child 😂

My water intake has never been so good! It's also a fantastic thing to take on a walk, packs a punch so a great defence item haha

stressedespresso · 07/06/2024 12:51

People can spend their money in whatever way they like, it’s not for you to judge. I bought myself one and it’s great - keeps ice frozen for 24 hours!

nobeans · 07/06/2024 12:51

It's their money. Some people dress their kids in designer gear or spend a fortune on trainers, not my place to judge

saveforthat · 07/06/2024 12:52

I came on here to find out what a stanley cup is. I can see I am going to have to Google!

SpringerFall · 07/06/2024 12:52

Jealousy? Sure my child does not have one but I have no problems with anyone having one, it could have been a present anyway

Unless it is of course 'parents can't do whatever because it makes me feel bad and I can't cope because I have major issues'

This. The classic MN attitude that nobody is allowed to have nice things if not everyone can have them

TeenLifeMum · 07/06/2024 12:55

It’s bonkers and they’re ugly things.

Are they “nice”? Round here they’re owned by the fishlip brigade. Not something most of us aspire to.

Mercurial123 · 07/06/2024 12:57

It was a fleeting trend. People have moved on. Influencer Insanity did a good commentary on YouTube a few months ago. It's extremely ugly and overpriced.

Livinginaclock · 07/06/2024 12:57

I had to google because I know it as the ice hockey thing!

CatWontBudge · 07/06/2024 12:58

To each their own. I wouldn't personally but I equally wouldn't judge someone who did.

I do wonder though if all the Stanley cup fans are aware that continued use means they're causing premature wrinkles round their mouths much like smokers get due to the sucking motion that is required in the straw.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 07/06/2024 12:59

Everyone has different ideas about what is value for/waste of money and different priorities don't they? I don't have a Stanley cup but years ago I did have a (expensive at the time) Contigo travel mug. I was a supply teacher and did loads of ferrying my DC around to after school stuff. It was worth every penny.

I can't get my head round why anyone would ever spend any money on personalised number plates - it literally baffles me but they are very popular so obviously lots of people don't agree and would point to something I do as a waste of money

I suppose it is up to the parent to decide. For many people £45 isnt a lot but, for some it is. Parents can decide what shoes, uniform, clothes and cups they want to buy.

curious79 · 07/06/2024 13:00

I simply admire the people who can be bothered to lug around an item that big. Everyone seems to be worried about dehydrating these days.

LaWench · 07/06/2024 13:01

I have the £4.50 copy from B&M. I like it, yes it is massive ans heavy when full but it does make our hard water taste nice and keeps it cold. I'm drinking loads now, always on the loo.

HamSandwichKiller · 07/06/2024 13:01

Oh it's the same as those Klean Kanteen bottles that were around for awhile. Overpriced metal bottles as status symbols 😂. It's not my money they wasted so who cares

GerbilsForever24 · 07/06/2024 13:02

best £45 I've ever spent. It was DD's most wanted gift ever and as we were paying for an overpriced party, only spending £45 on her actual present was a win.

If people can afford it, who cares. And it's actually lasted better than any other bottles we've bought so far.

Althenameshavegone · 07/06/2024 13:04

Based on how many water bottles my kids manage to lose at school I’d be crazy to spend more than a tenner but if money is no object and your child is capable of looking after things…buy whatever you like

SpringerFall · 07/06/2024 13:05

For people who don't like what others buy a lot of thought seems to go into commenting about

'Omg the mum down the road bought her child a crayon'
'Call the papers we need an opinion on it'

Misthios · 07/06/2024 13:07

DD has one - well, same shape, knock off brand that we bought in cheapie souvenir shop in New York for $5. I think she's used it every day. She isn't primary school age though.

Excited101 · 07/06/2024 13:08

I don’t understand why having something so heavy and which holds so much can be useful, when you can’t chuck it in a bag or bottom of a buggy etc!

any stainless steel water bottle with a decent capacity will keep drinks tasting fresh and ice frozen for 24 hours- it’s not at all special.

Hotttchoc · 07/06/2024 13:08

People can spend their money on whatever they like

HashtagShitShop · 07/06/2024 13:12

I have a meoky that was about... 14 pound? Leak proof and it has upped my drinking a thousand times than before. I have various medical issues and can dehydrate quickly but never drank that much as never really felt the thirst urge.

I was so dehydrated at times that my urine would look like it had blood in it. Not anymore!

You shouldn't 'always be on the loo'. You're drinking too much.

At least put some pink salt in the water.
