I believe most young men wish a 'Mrs Robinson' relationship at some point in their lives.

He's unlikely to be a thoughtful lover, however, you could do the rest of us a favour and teach him to take his time, to make sure you enjoy it rather than 'a quick shag'. Unless of course that is all you want.

Make sure he wears protection though, you don't know where he's been. Use plenty of lube too.

A lot of young guys get totally the wrong impression of what sex is, and what women find pleasureable, mostly from watching too porn, so be prepared to coach him, and point him in the right direction so to speak.

The need for lube is not a given. It varies from person to person and/or where exactly you are in your cycle.

But given the age of the OP, l think she’ll have this worked out by now.

True, but it is often overlooked, and if you don't have it available it's a bit late.

Besides, it's also useful during foreplay.

My age gap with DH is bigger than 35-42 and we're very much on the same page. Not all people are the same at the same ages. You could be missing out on great connections by being fixated on age.

My thoughts exactly!! It's funny, I was going to post something similar yesterday. My Partner and I have a bit of an age gap but we click so well and have been together for 12 years. We got together quite unintentionally after I was attacked and left for dead and she supported me after the harrowing ordeal.

Taboo, yes. Creepy, no.

Fgs you're not some dried up old lady at 42. If you're aroused you won't need lube. I find the interest in younger men weird but the mention of lube is ridiculous

Lavagirl · 10/06/2024 13:39

So many assumptions and generalisations here, it's absolutely depressing. A woman can't be found attractive in her 40s by someone younger, and if they are it's a 'fetish', you'll need lube, a younger man will be shit in bed, an age gap will mean that there's no connection or common ground.... WOW.
My own recent, ongoing experience of sleeping with someone aged 23, as a 47 year old, has been nothing but positive, sexy, fulfilling, joyful. Without any qualms whatsoever I'd encourage people to move away from their fixation on what's 'appropriate' or 'creepy' and do whatever they want, assuming it's with consent ofc.

You go girl! ❤️

He's 19 years younger than you. When I was 42 my oldest son was 26. My second oldest was 22. So, no. Yuk.

100% this.. Great post x

Chellybelle · 10/06/2024 15:13

I don't think it's terrible, generally speaking. But I think if you have children around that age, it moves into a grey area as you see them as your child's peers and I think most people will agree t 23 year old, regardless of the fact they are adults and are capable of adult things, they are young and they still have a lot of mental growth and maturing to go through. A night of sex with a man this age is unlikely to negatively affect him, but I'd maybe question a woman who slept with a man the same age as her child.

How old was the father of your eldest that you had at 16? If we're judging people for choices made?

Let people do what they want providing everyone involved is willing and able to consent.

This very nearly happened to me too, exactly the same ages 47/23. We met at an event and just completely clicked, had a great time, the only reason I didn't take it further is I just wanted to savour the connection, he was a very intelligent and funny guy, and we had similar outlooks. I remembered a quote by Rab C Nesbitt that a "moment" together is more important than the "act". I'll never forget riding on the back of his scooter clinging onto his shoulders, laughing like idiots through Oxford. We made it back to his digs, but I left it there. Absolutely no doubt the sex would've been great, but I'd have to go back home and look my own 23 year old in the eyes.. 😂 I think it's better this way, but I'll always wonder what would've been. My son tells me that there are many among his friends that would like the older woman experience, but sometimes it's best to let fantasies stay just that.

You were a mum at 16 (legally still a child)? How old was the father of your son? And you are passing judgment on a fully grown adult having sex with another fully grown adult? Have a word with yourself.

rebeccasays · 10/06/2024 18:22

I think that age gap is fine, although I think it is an age gap as in he's attracted to slightly older women and you younger. And 5-10 years not really much of a gap.

18 would be young, at 23 they've either finished uni and been working a couple of years or working for 5+ years.

And it's legal for a 42 yo to sleep with a 23yo, so the rest is people's opinions.

If she was with an older man then she was groomed. Not her fault.

You had a child at sixteen, and you're worried about what two adults do?

ThreeAmingos · 10/06/2024 19:01

Whatever age pp had her child isn't relevant, and there's no shame in having a child at 16.

Maybe she feels she was taken advantage of by someone older and that's why she doesn't like age gaps (assuming the father wasn't your age, don't mean to speak for you).

A teen being in a sexual relationship with a peer is healthy and normal. Unplanned pregnancies happen at all ages. If the father was an older adult then the teen was groomed. In neither scenario is the teen at fault.

LordPercyPercy · 10/06/2024 19:12

A teen being in a sexual relationship with a peer is healthy and normal.

And an adult being in a sexual relationship with a peer (ie another adult) is healthy and normal as well.

Except the age of consent is 16, so in the eyes of the law, the teen made that decision.

No one should ever judge someone else's decisions. Because, at some point, we all make a questionable one.

I disagree that they are a peer with the age gaps being discussed. A woman my age is not a peer to a man my son's age.

We'll need to agree to disagree on that. I think adults can do whatever they wish, with whoever they wish, in the confines of the law. Anything else is infantalising but that seems to be a general theme these days.

And actually I think that teen pregnancy is far from ideal - I'd be gutted if my sixteen year old had a baby. Far more so than if my twenty three year old had an older sexual parter, that would be none of my business.
