To ask you to join me in a 30 day weight loss challenge?

So, summer in nearly upon us and I still haven't gotten into shape!
AIBU to ask some of you to join me in a 30 day challenge to strive towards being a little bit healthier?
My aim is to get up early every morning and do a 30 min walk/run and stick to a healthy diet.
I'm hoping we could all post a message every night/other night updating on our progress and being a support of sorts to each other to keep us focused on our long term goal.
Anyone up for it?

Been disciplined so far but going for a curry tonight with the family. What can I have that is "relatively" low fat? Thinking chicken tikka or something grilled with plain rice?

Something without creamy sauce. Chicken or fish. I find rice bloats me and makes me weigh more the next day but has no long term impact, so I wouldn't avoid it if you like it.

ShaunaSadeki · 31/05/2024 13:48

Another tiny 0.1 kilo loss today, no exercise yet today due to the wine and the kettlebells class mentioned yesterday. I checked my steps and the repeated visits to the shop for more drinks really added up yesterday and I ended up on 15k.

We are DC free tonight so feel that we need to “do” something. I have suggested going out for dinner but somewhere about an hours walk away so that we will get 2 hours of activity in and will go somewhere with healthy options, possibly Vietnamese.

I am doing Parkrun in the morning so that will keep me on the straight and narrow this evening.

Beezknees · 31/05/2024 15:43

Afternoon everyone. Hope we are all doing well.

Just been to the gym for a kettlebells class. Not been great with the food today, probably will be about 400 calories over my target but I'm not going to beat myself up as the rest of the week has been good.

Normally I would consider myself a failure and then decide I may as well give up and start again on Monday, but that's not going to happen!

I am reducing my alcohol intake as I think this has also been a big factor for my weight gain. Normally I have a bottle of prosecco to myself every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This week I'm just going to have half a bottle tonight and the other half tomorrow, none on Sunday.

weaseleyes · 31/05/2024 19:31

I was 18 calories over today, so have struggled not to tell myself I might as well write off tonight and have a glass of wine. Luckily I talked myself out of it. I'm willing to use 18 calories as a reason for consuming several hundred more!

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 31/05/2024 19:33

Proud to say I did well at team lunch. A very tasty warm chicken salad.

Planning to drink Gin and diet tonic water rather than my usual Friday night several glasses of red wine. More likely to do that now that I have written it down 😊

Hesma · 31/05/2024 19:34

Yes! Definitely need some moral support 💪🏼

CornflowerBlueSky · 31/05/2024 20:34

Yesterday's food was spot on until the evening when I decided I 'deserved' a glass of wine, which turned into more and then I just ate everything I could get my hands on. Anyway, new day today. No school so had an extremely rare sleep in. Didn't feel hungry for breakfast, so had planned to just wait until lunch, but then work became busy and I thought to myself, actually I'm still not hungry so for the first time ever, I fasted until 8pm when we ate tea. The biggest surprise was that I truly didn't feel hungry, eating at set times is just such an ingrained habit....

thesnailandthewhale · 31/05/2024 20:40

A late night last night and little sleep meant I felt rubbish today. I've managed to stick to my calories but not many steps done today:

B: Protein yoghurt, protein powder and a banana
L: salmon fillet with noodles and veg
D: Scrambled egg on 1 piece of toast

SpicyNikNak · 31/05/2024 22:48

A decent day. Didn't manage 30ds but had planned today as a day off anyway as had an event tonight. I did manage a few (uncoordinated) moves on the dance floor and drove so no alcohol. That must count for something! All in all 💛

MammaTill2Pojkar · 01/06/2024 00:16

I took my youngest swimming today so burned a few extra calories with that (mostly sitting watching him for the hour we were there, but took him around the 'rapids' a few times too and had to cycle him there and back, only a gentle 10 mins each way though), also did my 30 min workout when we got home. I did steal a small bite of his chocolate muffin in the pool cafe after and took both kids to a food fair that started today after school and bought them a couple waffles on sticks, one for my husband too and stole a bite of that too 😅

Had a lower calorie dinner than I originally intended though so hoping I've done okay, I'm not actually calorie counting, guesstimating my dinners and trying to make my evening snack plate a little smaller as well as stop the daytime snacking.

I think today was a ❤will weigh in tomorrow and see if there is any change, if not I probably need to tackle my evening snacks and cut them down a bit...

Worriedmummmm · 01/06/2024 07:34

Ooh can I join please? I have a vague plan of dropping two dress sizes by our August holiday. I wear a size 16 now, but would like to be a small 14. I haven’t seen a size 14 for a looong time so whilst I’d love to get there, perhaps this will be beyond my powers! I can always try! If I can keep going for 30 days there is hope for me for a longer term plan…

Have started couch25k and trying to cut out snacks and have healthier meals as my weight has gone crazy after nearly two years of very little activity due to illness. I started at 88.8k two weeks ago, managed to reduce to 87.6 and then 86.3 but my weekly weigh in is Monday and the scales have gone back up to 87.3 - argh! I think I got a bit too relaxed with food after the initial good results so need to be a bit stricter. Wedding today and hotel breakfast tomorrow so that is going to be nearly impossible BUT have told myself that I will be going for a run on Sunday when we come back.

Things that work for me:
Protein rich, calorie poor breakfast. Trying to keep it to sub 300 cals, usually egg on toast.
No evening snacking. Once I start I can’t stop. So I’m not supposed to start!
Running even when I feel rubbish/when it’s raining.

I really recommend couch25k. It’s interval training and the app is free. I’m doing it with my sons who are seriously unfit so that is great motivation as I would never be able to keep going if it was for me! We started week one unable to get through 60 seconds of running. Yesterday went out for week three, running for 3 minutes! I am actually looking forward to 5 min run next week. And I loathe running 😂

lairyfights9 · 01/06/2024 09:00

Didn't post yesterday as fell asleep early!
Yesterday was 💛 for me. Did day 14 of 30ds
Breakfast - usual protein smoothie
Lunch - quinoa and beans with tuna and a bit of balsamic
Dinner - just some breaded chicken strips
Snacks - I made oat cookies yesterday with dd so probably ate about 8/9 of these spread across afternoon and evening. Which is quite a lot but I did make them with sweetener instead of sugar and overall don't feel too bad about it as I didn't snack on anything else.

Trying to get myself to do day 15 of 30ds... once I've done it I'm officially halfway but I am tired and it is hard and I really can't be bothered 😩😂 I will do it, but might take me a couple of hours to build up the motivation..

Well done everyone, and good luck today 👍

Troubledoor1 · 01/06/2024 09:51

Yesterday was ok, I went swimming and had salad for lunch. Then I was just absolutely knackered, not because of the swim, just the culmination of a busy half term with kids. So I had two glasses of wine and a few chocolates, it’s fine. Today I’m feeling good and plan to garden for exercise!

Halfheadhighlights · 01/06/2024 09:53

I’ve just seen this but I’ll join. Going on holiday in July and want to feel better in my swimsuits

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 01/06/2024 09:59

The thread is really helping me! It gives me the feeling of not doing this on my own. And it’s helping me to stay on track. Very early days yet, but almost a week in and I haven’t given up yet. That is the longest I have stayed on plan since I was in Slimming World 2 years ago.

A week ago my weight was 71.6kg. I am down .6kg this morning to 71kg! I am delighted with that as I had 2 team lunches and a birthday dinner!

I am meeting a friend for a meal and drinks tonight. Hopefully I don’t set myself back too much!!

lairyfights9 · 01/06/2024 11:44

Day 15 ✅

weaseleyes · 01/06/2024 12:10

I'm going out to dinner tonight with a friend who wants to treat me for helping her with her job hunting. It's really lovely of her, and I'd usually be looking forward to it, but I wish it were happening in a week or so's time when I felt more consolidated in my new regime and had some established weight loss behind me. Ah well, I shall just try to enjoy myself, go for the least worst options, and remember that one of the benefits of feeling healthier is that you get to have the occasional night out without anxiety or guilt-tripping yourself about it.

I feel the same. I've tried many times over the years to lose weight but doing it alone is so demotivating. This thread is helping me a lot knowing there are others in the same boat. I will probably continue beyond the 30 days as I have more weight to lose than most on here (I am obese) I'm hoping some others might continue too!

MammaTill2Pojkar · 01/06/2024 12:44

Weighed in at 64.7kg this morning, that's a 1kg (2ish lbs) weight loss since Monday 🎉

Today will probably be a 💛day as I am planning to finally celebrate my husbands new job he starts next week, so that will mean a bit of a calorie blow out today but as long as I get back to it tomorrow and stay sensible this morning/afternoon hopefully it will be okay. Then I need to bake a birthday cake tomorrow for my sons birthday which means a few slices of cake over a few days, so hopefully I can avoid snacking on those days to make up for it.

Haven't worked out yet today, but should get that done in the next hour or two.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 01/06/2024 13:27

Not weighed yet but have been trying to be good with soups and Ryvita and rice cakes plus salad crudités for lunch and fruit for snacking.

Had wine bar date with hummus and French bread last night. Am very surprised I’ve not done my usual bingeing on junk food but did get some salsa and tortilla chips.

Day 15 ✅

Well done. I've just done day 7. It looms over me before hand but then 25 mins later I feel motivated again. I muted Jillian today and played music over her which helped shake it up a bit!

Toxicalevandherhusband · 01/06/2024 16:38

Furrydogmum · 26/05/2024 17:05

I'll join you. I'd like to lose at least 10lbs in the next month starting from tomorrow for me. Good luck!

10lbs me too. I'm starting today. I'm not so good with the exercise part but defo in for healthy eating. I'm starting at 10.5 stone .

Jellycatrabbit · 01/06/2024 17:39

Thurs and Fri were OK days.

Have done loads of exercise but also lots of eating today. Will weigh in tomorrow!

lairyfights9 · 01/06/2024 18:14

Thanks @SpicyNikNak 😊 well done to you too. It's harder to get back on it after a rest day so bonus points for you!

I know exactly what you mean. It's the absolute last thing I want to do before I start, and then shortly after I've finished I think to myself 'I feel great, maybe I'll keep going after the 30 days are up!' Maybe I should capitalise on it and during that brief time period of super motivation just do it again 😂

Lila878 · 01/06/2024 20:17

I’ve lost 4lbs!
I was 13 stone 4 and now just under 13! ✌️
my eating has been good because I’ve been keeping busy busy so I’ve not been over eating junk and my DH has been super supportive and making really healthy meals
Took toddler out on scooter today. Also Did some gardening today. I hate gardening but feel better for it.
Going to read my kindle now. :)
