So, summer in nearly upon us and I still haven't gotten into shape!
AIBU to ask some of you to join me in a 30 day challenge to strive towards being a little bit healthier?
My aim is to get up early every morning and do a 30 min walk/run and stick to a healthy diet.
I'm hoping we could all post a message every night/other night updating on our progress and being a support of sorts to each other to keep us focused on our long term goal.
Anyone up for it?

I'm on day 3 and doing OK, but not brilliantly, so far.

The scales say I've lost 3lb but that's probably just a random or hormonal fluctuation. I won't worry too much if it goes up again, as long as it stays below my starting point.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 30/05/2024 07:02

Day 3 went well. Today will be tricky, team lunch and DDs birthday dinner. Hopefully my 3 in a row good days will motivate me to make good choices. Fingers crossed!!!

Glenthebattleostrich · 30/05/2024 07:20

Good morning. Absolutely knackered this morning. Spent hours sorting and throwing out what felt like half the house yesterday and did a 2.5 mile walk with a friend. Got cramp in my bottom at 4am so been up since then.

Today's job is jet wash the garden and get rid of a big planter thingy i made when i was childminding then resting this afternoon before I'm looking after my friends kids for a couple of hours.

Food will be -

B - scrambled egg
L - cheese salad
D - slow cooked beef brisket with veg.

So far I'm 1.5lb down this week, aiming for another 1 off this week.

Tinytigertail · 30/05/2024 08:28

Day 1 for me and Ive started by getting myself off my phone, out of bed and have taken the dog for a 4k walk. It felt like a nice way to start the day and will, hopefully keep me on track for the rest of the day. Good luck everyone!

Beezknees · 30/05/2024 08:57

Morning. Day 4 today. Got my meal plan sorted, booked a couple of days off work so I'm going to a class at the gym today.

Troubledoor1 · 30/05/2024 09:01

Morning all, a good day yesterday. Kept to under 1500 cals and had a massive walk.

Day 2 yesterday went ok for me. Kept to calories, successful bread and sugar avoidance, headache slightly less than day 1. I know if I can get through the first week of being on track that it's easier from then on, so I'm hoping to stay focused.

I have always thought of my weight in terms of stones and pounds, but one calorie tracking app I used just listed pounds, so I started calculating both and thought maybe just pounds would feel more objective and less tied to my sense of myself as a certain weight. Then my daughter reset the scales to kg, so I started using that as a measure for even greater detachment. Of course, now whenever I weigh myself I feel obliged to convert it to all three measures! However, my threshold of doom - the oh god, I mustn't weight that again - is a round number, and hence slightly different across each measure, just to be confusing. In any case, I'm now below my threshold of doom in two out of three measures - hopefully all three in a few days!

Afternoon! Just been to our local café/bar with DS, I treated myself to a bellini but included it in my daily calories, DS had a milkshake and a chocolate brownie, I had a bite but resisted the temptation of a whole one myself! Did legs bums and tums at the gym earlier too.

Thistle101 · 30/05/2024 16:35

Hi everyone,

You all seem to be doing amazing!

I did okay food wise yesterday but exercise was almost non existent. I really need to try up my steps.

I'm going out for dinner tonight🤦so day 4 may not be great but I just keep saying to myself you do still have to have little treats along the way.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Another day almost done for me, a lovely 10 mile walk with a friend and a mate coming round tonight for a catch-up.

B: scrambled egg on 1 piece of toast
L: Butternut squash and sage risotto with salad
D: Protein shake (still full from lunch) and a tub of blueberries

SpicyNikNak · 30/05/2024 19:43

Day 4 coming to an end. Busy one at work and then a haircut so I've not had time to think about food! Didn't manage your workout @lairyfights9 I found a body coach one "easy on the kneesy". It was pretty good on the knees to be fair! I've a night out tomorrow so that's going to be my rest day. Enjoy your dinner out Op :)

lairyfights9 · 30/05/2024 20:56

I was feeling like today was a 💛 but then I actually roughly counted calories on mfp and makes me feel like it should be a 💙 😬 it's so easy to go over by a lot from just a small amount of extras!!

Did day 13 of 30ds so 👍 there. Meals were mostly decent..
Breakfast - my usual protein smoothie (435 calories)
Lunch - quinoa and bean salad with teriyaki chicken (450 calories)
Dinner - paella (though I did have a large portion!)
Snacks - 7 ginger nut biscuits 😬 some raisins and a small pack of mini breadsticks.

I need better low calorie snacks!!! Any suggestions much appreciated (I'm dairy free as ds has cmpa). Hope everyone's had a good day 😊

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 30/05/2024 21:28

Day 4, not too bad considering I had a team lunch and DDs birthday dinner.

Lunch: Veg soup and 1/2 chicken sandwich.
Dinner: Half slice Garlic Bread, Ravioli and tomato sauce, and literally one fork full of DDs desert. Skipped the wine.
Am proud of myself.

Got another team lunch tomorrow and a dinner and drinks on Saturday, so need to hang on to my current willpower 😊

ShaunaSadeki · 30/05/2024 22:43

Today started well
v slight weight loss .1 of a kilo
interval run
protein shake
protein bagel with scrambled tofu, tomatoes and avocado
hideous kettle bells class
tofu, veg and brown rice stir fry
then it went downhill
bottle of wine

Lavengro · 30/05/2024 23:27

I'm having a mixed week. I was meant to do a gym induction on Tuesday morning but neither I nor the PT could get there because there was a huge car crash and all the roads round the gym were gridlocked for hours, so that's had to be postponed. But I had a day out with my son today and somehow walked over 10k. He's a big walker and pushes me to explore places on foot, whereas tbh I'm guilty of driving almost everywhere usually. So I feel knackered this evening but pretty virtuous!

MammaTill2Pojkar · 30/05/2024 23:31

Managed my 30 min workout and broke my fast at 6pm again today, probably ate too many snacks though as had a more calorific greasy dinner... I'll give myself a 💛. Hoping, if the weather is nice enough, to take my youngest swimming tomorrow 🙏That'll be a bit of cycling, bit of swimming and hopefully my 30 min workout too if I can find the time.

Ezekiela · 31/05/2024 04:08

13 stone 3 this morning, down 3lb since I started. The scales were hovering between 2 and 3 lbs. I'm only really intending to weigh myself once a week but really wanted to today.

Last two nights we've been out at the pub, and I was on the beer. I know it's not ideal but I'm easing myself into this gently; lower calorie drinks can come further down the line. Walked today but less than 2 miles. Quite quickly, though, not strolling.

Struggling a bit with snacking. I'm better during the day but weaken late at night, especially if we have our evening meal quite early. I take medication at bed time that can't be taken on an empty stomach, but instead of having just one snack for supper, it ends up being three or four. That's the next thing to work on.

ElizabethanAgain · 31/05/2024 05:26

I'm in. Starting weight 93.6 kg (14st 10lb). I'm doing the Fast800. It's the only program I've ever had any success with. Also going to be more active. Spring cleaning and dog walking. Starting today (Friday).

Baxdream · 31/05/2024 06:45

It's been a bit up and down so far. We had some celebrations so had lunch/drinks out.

I am being good with the gym - I'm really enjoying it at the moment so it's just a case of finding time to go rather than not wanting to.

I'm at work today but have lunch prepared.

I weighed 11st 3 yesterday but back to 11st 4 today. I am beginning to think this is just my natural weight in my 40s as I really can't seem to get any lower! I was 11st 10 April time so I've done well (I'm tall so my weight is always more than my size). I was between 10 and 10.7 in my 30s!

I8toys · 31/05/2024 09:41

Been disciplined so far but going for a curry tonight with the family. What can I have that is "relatively" low fat? Thinking chicken tikka or something grilled with plain rice?

RedPony1 · 31/05/2024 09:51

Day 3 for me, doing ok, food has been good, no snacking.

No exercise though, my back pain is so bad i can only just work and do my horses

Beezknees · 31/05/2024 10:11

Morning. I am going out for brunch with a friend so may go over my calories today but I won't go too mad.

My old mindset was that if I went over my calories then I'd already "ruined" my day and may as well give up so I would continue to eat crap for the rest of the day. I am trying to get out of that.

Troubledoor1 · 31/05/2024 11:21

Yesterday went a bit sideways. I ate out and made great choices then downed a load of pick and mix that my kid did not want. Something about paying ££££ for pick and mix and it going to waste made me think it was a good idea. A better choice would just have been to bring it home for another day. Food wise it was fine, and I was active for most of the day. Also had two small wines which is pointless when I could have saved the calories. Nevermind. Onward !

Toooldtoworry · 31/05/2024 12:14

I'm starting this process tomorrow. Gym induction at 10am and I'm starting the dreaded calorie counting tomorrow too. I know I'll be hungry until I figure out what to eat and when.
