AIBU to feel this will happen un a Labour government???

From what I see and IMO, the Labour lot on the whole believe in aspirations but only for themselves

Older people will vividly recall the the hideous tax rates under labour - between 1974 and 1979 the paye tax rate was up to 80%. Then there was a tax on top of that for so-called higher earners of 18%. This equated to 98%

I don't trust Labour, nor do I trust the Torties. Liberals, IMO they will sell your soul down the river to get a sniff at number 10

As I said I don't trust any of them. But if you are working, worked hard, been prudent with your money and have savings, decent private pensions in the pipeline and possibly a property or two that you have worked for, for your retirement and not wasting your money and want to leave some behind for your kids, GC etc rather than throw it away on the hand to mouth life - then if Labour comes into power, you are totally and truly F'd

Labour rants they will do this and the other - the last time they almost bankrupted England,

If you are working hard being prudent with your money and made sacrifices to send your kids to a private school as many Labour MP's do on pay at almost 100k - they are eager to put VAT on this part of education. The MPS whose pay is a couple of times above average pay will be able to afford it - will you??

Me, my family, relatives have all worked hard, not on benefits, never lived in social housing and not thrown our money away but been prudent to be self-sufficient and pay our taxes to support our country. If you are like us, then trust me, under Labour, you will be shafted hard.

I'm not sure if I will vote tory or an independent but this circus of Tories and Labour taking turns to lie to the nation is not on and yes, most politicians lie and will lie and say anything to get into number 10 and if your feel that is not true, then you must be on another planet

Many countries see childcare as a way of gaining tax by encouraging women into work, lifting people of benefits, increasing productivity and supporting economy.
Not every government sees childcare as a spending hole.
Also rest of Europe has cheaper childcare and more public nurseries so the sector doesn't requires huge funding to make it affordable.

You're not really answering my question.

I've lived in two other European countries who had cheap / free childcare from 2 and a half. Both had higher taxes.

Just let me know when you've come up with these low tax cheap childcare countries.

GentlemanJohnny · 05/06/2024 13:38

Meanwhile, back in the real world...........

One or other of the two main parties will form the next Government. There will be a Government so I'm not too sure what you are trying to achieve OP?

Oh and BTW I first voted in the 1974 election. I well remember Labour Govts. I've lived under 5 Labour PMs (Wilson - twice - Callaghan, Blair and Brown).

Bibi12 · 05/06/2024 15:17

When they run statistics on childcare it transpired that professional full time working couples in London were more likely to admit they struggle with fees and were more in need of childcare in a first place.
Some unemployed low income mothers were already complaining about government "pushing them into work" .

That's why Labour changed it's tune and went from universal support to only for those who don't work and on low income.

It became a quite pointless policy for them and they were better off spending money somewhere where it benefits them rather on then Tory voters. Childcare wasn't a priority anyway due to high influx of migrant workers replacing mothers at their jobs.

That was before excuse of "no money". It was 2017.

What I'm trying to say over and over on this thread is stop believing one politician cares about you more then the other. Nr 1 priority for them is election and getting into power and not all of their policies are what they say they are.
Maybe if people stopped being so gullible then politicians would have been held to a higher standard.

I'm looking forward to change as we need stability but I'm not excited about Labour either.

Why don't you pm me and ask politely? Maybe then I will answer. I've exposed myself enough on this thread with being a widow, number of children, where I live etc. And I was reprimanded because of talking about "my country ". 😅
I've taken enough space on here I won't be posting anymore.

Oh and UK tax burden is high. Some are pushed into hidden 60% rate. Council tax. Road tax. Inheritance tax. Etc

Zonder · 05/06/2024 16:08

Why would I PM you? Are you hiding something? We are all having a public discussion and I wasn't the only person to ask! I'm guessing you don't have much to say hence the backing out.

Read again please. I've listed the reasons.

Don't ask me why would you. I said you can. I didn't say you should or that I care if you do.

Zonder · 05/06/2024 16:22

Read again please. I asked you for specific countries. I can't see why you couldn't just say wbich countries have cheap childcare and low tax. It's not personal info.

Estonia is one example.
Germany similar tax as UK
I won't talk about my country because it resulted in people getting very nasty and that took over the thread. You have a right to criticise my position I have a right to stand by it.

But I've given enough personal info, I don't want to expose my nationality. I'm very private. Neither do I want to expose myself to more abuse on this thread.

You haven't edited your post so I don't have to read again.

Nobody is interested in which country you come from. You didn't even need to mention it. It's your comment that was interesting.

MrsSunshine2b · 29/06/2024 21:11

Because we've all noticed how much more we have in our pockets after 14 years of the Tories, right?

Paul2023 · 30/06/2024 10:15

To be fair to the Tories.. they have raised the income tax threshold. Meaning people who earn less than £12570 don’t pay tax at all.

Frozen fuel duty since 2011.

I can’t think of anything else.

They’ve frozen the income tax threshold for years! Facts really don’t mean anything in this thread.

What did Suank mean when he said taxes will rise by £2k per working family/ person ?

Im genuinely interested and worried.Does anyone know what Sunak meant because I can’t afford an extra £2 k per year.

Notonthestairs · 30/06/2024 16:55

Made up numbers. Thats how.

www.spectator.co.uk/article/on-sunaks-maths-tories-will-lift-taxes-by-3000-per-household/

"the Tories genuinely do intend to take the tax burden to the highest seen in the lifetimes of most voters. They are in a big old glass house when in comes to tax rises – yet here they are, still throwing stones. It’s a risky strategy.
There are serious issues at stake in this general election and the Tories have just released nonsense figures with fake attribution then given them to newspapers, who took it on trust. I’m not sure that this will help their chances."

He's full of shit and lies worse than Boris. He'll say and do anything to enrich himself and his family.

Horrid little man.

Paul2023 · 30/06/2024 17:07

Sunak kept saying council tax will go up under Labour.Well that’s obvious.

Council tax goes up every year!

Come on everyone. Nobody is getting taxed more
Aren't people getting the message that EVERYTHING will be paid for by closing the non dom loophole and VAT on private schools.
Britain WILL be great again

He lied.

Some scrabbled together figures that weren't accurate and pretended they were officially produced by an official body (who denounced them).

Similar scrabbled together figures using similar format showed it would increase more under tories than that.

First, the figures have been discredited, and it’s been shown the Tories plans would lead to higher taxes anyway.
Second, even the wrong figures weren’t per year, they were over the whole of the next Parliament.
We seriously need some laws and consequences against politicians lying and misrepresenting facts.
