There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

Never heard of anyone being so cheeky to do that! Yes park across & leave a note on your car & their car- you could be disabled, elderly for all they know CFs

We had a similar situation, mum bought a new house with a double drive around the back, she doesn’t have a car but we all do, neighbours back door had several cars & asked if they could park on her drive, & she agreed if they didn’t park up against her GD- I drove round back to visit & couldn’t get on the drive, two strange cars parked up & against the garage door. Knocked on the neighbors door, turns out its relatives of theirs & they had pissed off for day & night to a wedding, would have to kindly wait until the day after when they would be returning, I just went mental- never parked there again🙄I have heard that if you let someone park on your drive & the years pass by, it becomes their parking spot for good- not sure about that one?

Am just here for the mooring CF story…

Musiclover234 · 06/05/2024 17:27

Traffic wardens round my way don’t care about cars parking across drives. I even caught an actual warden blocking mine to go round the corner to catch people out. I’d defo park across my own drive in this situation.

Yes i reported the warden. CF.

Be a sport. It's village fete after all. Park as safely as possible and do leave a note for the CF if you've blocked it. Too much stress is no good to you or the fete goers!! Parking mistakes are made on such exciting village days and you don't know the circumstances of the other person/person maybe with babies? Hopefully it's all blown over by now??😀

Can't bear people doing this. We used to have a drive with gates and yellow lines- people would block us in and go off for their salsa classes then be annoyed when I asked them to move ? Always 'I was only going to be 5 minutes'. Think is you can't reason with stupid but to be on your drive is truly bizarre x

RusClark · 06/05/2024 17:51

I would take photos or a video with a time and date stamp, block them in and go out. They are on your property without permission and even if you get a ticket I would splash it all over social media and challenge the case. You may find that someone has rented out your space on one of these parking platforms where people can book your parking space for a day etc. a few cases where this has been done fraudulently and the result is similar to yours.

SV8 · 06/05/2024 18:00

Definitely leave your car where it is, & if you do get a parking ticket leave it as long as possible. They can’t ticket you twice in the same day

Pikiti · 06/05/2024 18:01

My Christian upbringing is telling me to advise you not to block them in and just forgive the stupidity.Listen, block them in go enjoy the fete and do not come back till noon tomorrow…How cheeky can people get?.

Runnerinthenight · 06/05/2024 18:04

Hey people - it was over yesterday!!!! No more advice required!

NeedSomeHeadspace · 06/05/2024 18:12

You should have added a photo to your post, if MN has that facility? I can’t believe anyone would really do this!

Gymmum82 · 05/05/2024 13:21

I’d block them in and go out. It would be worth the risk of a fine to me to be honest

This!

linsey2581 · 06/05/2024 18:37

Looking forward to getting the update from the school run .

Mumlifeofboys · 06/05/2024 18:50

Oh I hope you went out all day and enjoyed the village fete! X😂

It was all over yesterday.

But last time I'd looked, having babies doesn't entitle you to use other people's property.

RecklessGoddess · 06/05/2024 19:12

I would do it, they shouldn't have parked there. I have only seen a law to say it's illegal to prevent access to a home, have not seen any rules to say its illegal to prevent leaving a driveway

Wow, so she should park a long way from her own house, because someone who clearly doesn't give a sh*t about other people or other people's property. Just to be a "sport" ??

dapsnotplimsolls · 06/05/2024 19:18

We definitely need a post-school-run update tomorrow!

It's the other way round: it's not illegal to block access to a driveway, but it is illegal to park across a dropped kerb if that stops someone getting out of that driveway even if they'd parked there without permission Shock

T1Dmama · 06/05/2024 20:01

I can assure you, when she heard your convo about being away, she had no intention from that second on if parking anywhere else but your driveway! CF indeed!
She certainly had no right to be angry ..
However as crap as our laws are here, her parking on your drive is trespass and a civil matter, you parking so that you’re blocking her accessing the highway is against the law and had she called the police, it’s you that would’ve been in trouble for breaking the law.. Good old English law eh!!

I used to live near a football stadium, too, and it was exactly the same.

And I caught one of them pissing through the railings into my front garden once!

Shame you didn't have a rake in your hand!

Closetheblinds · 06/05/2024 20:41

I’d park my car so they can’t get out and go away for a week

Pepsiisbetterthancoke · 06/05/2024 20:44

This is going to be another ‘cancel
the cheque’ thread isn’t it…..
