There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

Absolutely block them in!

Before you leave make sure you take pictures of their car/reg and your car incase of any damage.

This, and include in the note to parking warden in your window your telephone number. (The note that explains that you own the house and are going on holidays.) The fact that the vehicle owner can access your number gives them less reason to damage your car.

If you don't want to read the whole thread, you can read the OP's updates..

If you'd had your wits about you at the time, I would have feigned ignorance about who owned the car parked across the driveway and said that you might have assumed it was someone from the fete as you are away for the day, so you have no clue as to who to ask to move their car from being parked across your own driveway...oh and why is she asking for this car to be moved anyway, surely she didn't assume it was ok for her to park on your driveway, right???

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 06/05/2024 11:36

We need to hear the mooring story now @Oldsu

I bet there'll be a next time (next fete?) and OP can use these suggestions then. I'm sure I'll still be on MN so look forward to catching up then. 🌹

@Oldsu now that the OP has fully updated us, please feel free to hijack the thread and tell us about the mooring??

One day(if we eat our greens and say our prayers)we might get a 'Some CF Pilot Has Landed On My Helipad' thread.

Or here's one for the book, we came home to find a chap on our drive, releasing his racing pigeons, as he thought it was a good spot to do so from!! He didn't think that after the conversation!!!!!

Cherrysoup · 06/05/2024 13:26

Can’t believe she phoned to get you to unblock her but not to check that it was ok (obviously you would have told her to get lost!) CF!

I think you might have met my cousin's husband.

Easipeelerie · 06/05/2024 14:29

As the person who parked on your drive is a certified CF, it’s not impossible she’ll have the brass neck to bring the incident up in further conversation with the OP in order to let her know how inconvenienced she was.
So don’t forget any of the benefit of hindsight comments you’ve since thought of and be ready with them if she approaches you.

Cas112 · 06/05/2024 14:35

I would also block them in and leave car there cheeky sods

Ginslings · 06/05/2024 14:48

Superlambaanana · 05/05/2024 14:22

In both cases it's entering someone's private property without permission. So hardly a 'bizarre' comparison. I assume you must be someone who parks at will on other people's driveways?

It's 100% NOT the same, and is a bizarre comparison.

A while back we had 2 men climb over a walk onto our property, climbed up a fire escape onto a balcony outside our bedroom window.

Luckily our dog woke us, and scared them off. The police attended immediately and agreed it was totally planned to be an aggravated burglary (cameras caught it all and they knew exactly where they were going). BUT, as they had not actually entered our house even if they did catch them there was nothing that they would be able to charge them with as trespass is only a civil offence and not actually breaking the law.

If we all chant MOOR-ING! together…?

CharlotteBog · 06/05/2024 16:42

I am settled in at the fete, in a slightly damp gazebo drinking slightly warm white wine with friends.

Nothing says "Bank Holiday Monday in the UK" like this!

Mt61 · 06/05/2024 16:48

Never heard of anyone being so cheeky to do that! Yes park across & leave a note on your car & their car- you could be disabled, elderly for all they know CFs
