There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

I'm now just here for the 'so it's your own fault then' posts.

Haydenn · 05/05/2024 13:23

Well you shouldn’t block them in, but I probably would.

Why not? Definitely worthy of blocking in. I have so many questions, who would do this? And update please when you see them come back!!

sussexlady · 05/05/2024 19:23

I live next to a Primary school and the parking is appalling. I came home one day and there was a car parked IN my driveway! not just across my driveway (as usual or 3 or 4 deep in the road outside) which is 'normal'. I was just deciding what to do ie parking behind it and blocking it in and a woman I have never seen before suddenly appeared. I gave her the 'look' and was about to start being cross and she said 'Oh sorry I didn't realise'. I said 'what didn't you realise? do you mean you didn't realise that you didn't live here! The cheek1

What, she couldn't have at least asked? Absolute cheek of her!

I am SO bad at this. Because that is what I was thinking, but didn't quite have the guts to ask - and now I can't stop wondering 🤣 if she called I genuinely would have said yes and oarked across anyway (although I appreciate you all wouldn't have had an entertaining day)
Ironically we have the ring cameras too - so even if we were away we would have seen them (if we'd bothered to look at the cameras)

so...the CF asks you to walk over from the fete to bring your keys over to solve a problem of her own making? She should have offered to come to you to find you and get the keys, walk back, move both cars, then brought your keys back to you.

She's full-on CF! Can't believe she was even 1 percent seething with you.

Balloonhearts · 05/05/2024 19:31

You should have left it there! Oh so sorry Susan but we're not back until tomorrow afternoon now. If you'd asked us before parking there we'd have warned you but didn't know whose car it was. Never mind eh? Bus stops round the corner. See you Tuesday!

I'd park across the drive and leave a note (inside the car) for the warden. Then, if I got a ticket, I'd photograph it and appeal.

If you have cameras your car will be safe from attack. Or you'll have the index of the cat parked and the name, address, inside leg measurement of the owner.

It is tempting during CF moments like this to cover their car roof with wild bird seed and let the CF deal with the 'fall out' from birds' bottoms.

Either that or the CF would be pecked to death a la Midsomer Murders. Too dark? You can tell we have to deal with a lot of CF parking in our village. We can only take so much more without the pitchforks coming out.

bloodyplumbing · 05/05/2024 19:36

I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad by the resolution.

But thanks for the update OP

WearyAuldWumman · 05/05/2024 19:39

Thanks for the update OP. You were too kind to her.

I would have been the same to be honest, absolutely gobsmacked by the front of her!

nightmareXmas · 05/05/2024 19:42

You let her off lightly, OP, but I can understand you were caught off guard. She had your number so I can't believe she didn't call or text to check it was OK and that you had gone ahead with your plan to go away. Then she makes you bring your keys back... She either has no self awareness or it was defensive seething masking embarrassment.

KnitnNatterAuntie · 05/05/2024 18:02

Yes, totally agree. I live about a mile away from a football stadium and it's amazing where supporters dump their cars . . . .

I used to live near a football stadium, too, and it was exactly the same.

And I caught one of them pissing through the railings into my front garden once!

Humblest of apologies. I've never attached a photo before but hope this works

That is some level of cheeky fuckery right there. I HOPE you blocked them in

I cannot wrap my head around the thought process of Cfs like this. Which is why I think this is likely to be someone you know, or at least someone who thinks they know you. It’ll be the most vague of connections, but still someone who could say to their passengers after 15 mins of driving around and not finding a spot, “oh, Susan won’t mind, she’s probably gone out for the day”.

I KNEW IT!! Do I win a prize?!

(Promise I’m not this or any other CF! It’s just the most plausible explanation!)

I googled this. Residential Land Withholding Tax?

peebles32 · 05/05/2024 19:57

Let their tyres down and key the car! Play dumb!

bubblesforbreakfast · 05/05/2024 20:03

@shenandoahvalley you win the prize!!!! One day's free parking in desirable village location.
T&Cs: cannot guarantee some CF will not box you in 🤣

Wow this is worse than it being a stranger really 🤔 she COULD have got your details and asked/sent a text saying hope you don't mind. Etc etc . Although the people pleaser in me would have me feeling bad for her mistake 😂

Biscuitz1 · 05/05/2024 20:04

Is it just me or has this thread already been covered? I remember reading a thread just like this

That's because CFs are everywhere and they don't give a shit where they park!

I'm shocked your Cheeky Parking Fucker wasn't more apologetic, OP. Some people have no shame.

FloofyBear · 05/05/2024 20:17

That's some cheek! I used to live near a premier football ground and had no parking, it's a pain but you just keep seer hi g, you don't pick someone's home to park at, even if they may not be there!
