For voting Tory

Whatismypasswordthen · 16/04/2024 12:23

I know what the Tories are and no, I don't like it. But I'm a woman, I have daughters and I come from generations of women who've been abused and dismissed because of their sex. I want better for my girls but I can't do it on my own. I need a government who will (at least give lip service to) supporting me. Am I a Tory? no. But the last thing women need is to be fighting their own government for basic recognition, so Tory it is.

Rape clause Op?

Just reply to highlight the lack of interest (and possibly knowledge) here.

Oh, and if one viral clip of one Tory MP telling off an opposition MP is enough to persuade you to vote for the most corrupt government this country has ever had, then I have no words.

But her outfit was sooooo stylish !

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/04/2024 13:49

This is such a small thing compared to the state of the country.

No housing
No transport ( outside London)
No NHS
Crap schools and teachers feeling in droves
Liz Truss
Cost of Living
Pathetic action on energy bills/ food inflation
Increased poverty
Lack of investment in anything.
Making councils bankrupt
Medication shortages
Brexit

Yeah why not vote Tory. They’ve done a great job with everything.🙄

MissyB1 · 16/04/2024 13:51

And you would probably vote for Trump f you were American OP. Because anyone that falls for this blatant electioneering hype is really that dim.

Seriously wake up! The Tories have no intention of making life better for the average woman. You don’t matter to them!

Cosycover · 16/04/2024 13:52

Yes you are being very unreasonable.

IncompleteSenten · 16/04/2024 13:54

You are entitled to vote for whoever you choose.

Tbh though, I think you're fooling yourself if you think the Tories are going to swoop in and save women.

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 16/04/2024 13:56

Why haven't they done it actually done it yet if they care so much? Why aren't they pushing it through now! They've had years and a massive majority.
The only possible reason is because they are using us women as political tool. That is unforgivable. So fuck them. Yes Labour are being pathetic on this but don't you dare try and convince me that the conservatives care about women one iota

Bumpitybumper · 16/04/2024 13:57

Mum1976Mum · 16/04/2024 12:59

I’d vote Labour if they weren't going to add 20% VAT to private school fees. We are already only just paying them as it is! Unfortunately, all the state schools by us are shit with parents who don’t even bother to parent so we have no other option than paying school fees. So it’s conservative for us and every other parent in our school by the sounds of it!

Yep, especially when all indicators suggest the policy will end up costing the government more money so it is pure (shitty) ideology!

Orangebadger · 16/04/2024 13:57

Cazpar · 16/04/2024 12:35

I'm sure the millions of women who've been pushed into poverty by austerity, who've seen Sure Start centres scrapped, who've had to wait years for justice because of cuts to the legal system, who can't get decent maternity or gynaecological care thanks to cuts to the NHS, who have seen no progress to fix the pay gap or to tackle punitive zero hours contracts (which disproportionately affect women), who have been crippled by care responsibilities while being paid a pittance, and who've once again seen a budget designed to help men rather than women will be overjoyed.

www.theguardian.com/business/2024/mar/07/how-a-conservative-budget-failed-to-help-women-again

Can't say it better than this.

LiterallyOnFire · 16/04/2024 13:59

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 16/04/2024 12:44

I couldn't be more gender critical if I tried and I still couldn't bring myself to vote for them (or anyone else at the moment).

This. I do understand the temptation to vote on the single issue of women's rights though. I don't think the stream of hyperbolic invective OP has attracted is very constructive. She's not giving me crazed right wing vibes.

Yes Labour will absolutely fix all of those things. They have well thought out and fully costed plans to tackle everything... Oh wait, they don't and nobody will because nobody is willing to face the facts.

The government has very little money to spend, economic growth is on its knees and we have an increasingly sick and old population that feels that they are entitled to healthcare, housing and education whilst paying very little into the system. This same population voted for Brexit but moans that it's made us poorer and weaker as a country. Who would want to invest in the UK when there is a growing movement to tax anyone with any money to buggery? The answer from the left is always to tax the rich and corporations more, the same people and organisations we need to fund CAPEX and infrastructure projects. We then wonder why everyone leaves to setup in Ireland and elsewhere.

The entitlement in this country is out of control and no political party is ever going to deliver what people expect.

SerendipityJane · 16/04/2024 14:15

The government has very little money to spend

Total and absolute bollocks. Even today they have found an extra £50million for Rwanda.

SerendipityJane · 16/04/2024 14:17

The entitlement in this country is out of control

The audacity of wanting a competent government, eh ?

I'm sure voting for a party that is quite happy to run those state schools down further, and put more pressure on the families you'd prefer not to mix with yours, will alleviate that problem. Luxury problems need luxury solutions, babe!

EveryoneJapan · 16/04/2024 14:20

You want the best for women and girls, so you’re going to vote Tory.

I think I’ve heard it all now!

ToWhitToWhoo · 16/04/2024 14:30

YANBU to vote for whichever party suits you. That's what democracy is all about. But YABU to equate women's rights with 'knowing what a woman is' and excluding transwomen. The majority of women's rights violations involve people (usually men; even occasionally women) knowing all too well what a woman is; seeking to put and keep us in our place; and exclude us from supposedly 'male' activities, like voting, getting equal pay, education, etc.

Do you think the Taliban are seeking to blur gender differences???

The Republicans in America are seeking (and in some states already achieving) a clampdown on women's reproductive rights. I would worry more about a woman dying or at best being left permanently infertile, through sepsis caused by delays in aborting a dead or dying fetus, or about a 12-year-old forced to bear her own father's baby, than about possible unfairness in elite sport. Not that the latter is unimportant, but it isn't the be-all and end-all of women's rights.

And some Tories, including former PM Liz Truss, have endorsed Trump.

Even harsh economic policies tend to harm women more than men. For just one example, look at the recent harshly punitive treatment of unpaid family carers. And guess what sex most unpaid family carers belong to!

DeadButDelicious · 16/04/2024 14:30

Oh aye, the tories know what a woman is alright. Women are the ones they've been punishing for 14 years. And you fancy more of the same do you? Not quite messed up the country totally have they? Let's give them another 5 years to finish the job? Give your head a wobble.

pointythings · 16/04/2024 14:44

Victoria Atkins? The one who referred to our junior doctors as trainees and refuses to negotiate with them? That Victoria Atkins? Fuck no.

Also as the parent of two disabled young adults, fuck no.

And lastly yawn at yet another of these threads.

LilacFatball · 16/04/2024 14:45

If every transwoman killed 1 woman a year, for the next ten years, that would still be less than were actually killed by austerity.

In voting Tory you are voting to give up more rights than you hope to gain. Just as Brexit voters voted to give up rights for themselves & their children based on empty promises. You'll be voting to weaken human rights legislation, employment rights & protections, environmental & animal welfare protections amongst others.

Those planes to Rwanda will have women & girls on them, people set to lose their disability based income to UC, there will be women & girls amongst them too.

Only an idiot would vote Tory if their primary focus was on women's rights. If however, their primary focus was on pushing back on trans rights, then sure, the Tories might do something. Whatever it is though, there won't be any public funding for it.

I'm hoping to see her return to obscurity after the election.

Concannon88 · 16/04/2024 14:48

Tories are the scum of the earth. End of story.

AngelicInnocent · 16/04/2024 14:50

I live in a red wall area where our labour MPs take their vote for granted and do nothing for us. Last time, my MP lost to a Conservative. He has worked really hard, been contactable, present in the community, joined community campaigns etc.

If I were to say can't vote Labour because of Corbyn (at the time) or Starmer now, I would be told you don't vote for the leader, you vote for your MP. I bet when I say I'm voting for a damn good MP but he happens to be Conservative, people will tell me that it doesn't matter how good he is I'm voting Rishi back.

Beezknees · 16/04/2024 14:52

As a woman I will never vote Tory. Laughable to think they will keep us safe!

Nor me. She is giving me 'hasn't thought it through' vibes, and when the fate of the country is hanging in the balance, I don't think that's acceptable.
