Mumsnet posts which drive me mad

Anyone hate these posts?

  • really really really long posts
  • long posts with NO paragraphs
  • posts which start ‘ I have a friend, let’s call her Jane; her DH, let’s call him Sam… you can’t bloody well follow the post. Much easier just to say Friend and DH.
Any others? 😊
OP posts:

'I'm posting for a friend.' Yeah, righty ho. Has anyone ever asked a friend to post on their behalf? No, I thought not.

Morningtimeride · 25/02/2024 21:24

"I live in a naice area. It's a naice school.

An example of posts that drive me wild are “DP cheated on me with 30 women, makes me sleep outside and forces me to eat dog food but I love him, should I take him back?”

Yes, wildly exaggerated but you get my point.

Alcyoneus · 25/02/2024 21:25

Replies where idiots come along to complain about the thread, because it’s been done before or they just don’t like it. These weirdos look at the title of the thread, then open, then read all umpteen pages, get their entertainment before posting that OP is unreasonable for starting yet another thread on this topic.

TheShellBeach · 25/02/2024 21:26

People who quote the whole OP when they're responding.

OP asks for ideas on how to invest her £27 savings. Like clockwork, someone turns up in the first page to tell OP to check her privilege. How dare she flaunt her £27 of savings when people on this forum are struggling to live.

Donthaveausernameinmind · 25/02/2024 21:29

People getting really angry because someone's posted before about the topic. So what?

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/02/2024 21:30

People who post in AIBU about anything and everything for traffic. That's at least 80% of threads in AIBU I reckon.

People who post in Aibu but have already made up their minds but just want validation.

Rosestulips · 25/02/2024 21:31

The ones I hate are the ones which get completely derailed by a few antagonistic posters and the focus is not one which the OP was posting about.

And the ones where OP gets piled on where they don’t really deserve it

Or an OP who's struggling with an awful mother and wants to know how to deal with her mum turning up on her doorstep drunk at 8am or has started trying to breastfeed OPs baby.
Response: "you should be grateful you've still got your mum. I'd give anything to have another 10 minutes with my lovely mum"

TheActualDuck · 25/02/2024 21:36

Posts where names are substituted by letters eg 'A and B were friends before C came along but A and C now live together.......etc'.
I just can't follow these threads and invariably give up on them. Why can't posters just use made up names?

Yes!!! Especially when the OP makes War And Peace look like a pamphlet.

JMSA · 25/02/2024 21:40

People who are absolute buzzkills. They come onto a thread that's lighthearted and just ruin the vibe.

Cafelattes · 25/02/2024 21:41

People who post on AIBU, don't like being told that yes they are and either flounce off in a huff or drip feed completely new info to bend the thread to their will.

The entirety of AIBU drives me potty.

“My friend leaves me to pay for dinner every time we meet, and always orders fillet steak and cocktails. Should I ask her to pay next time?”

”I invited my friend on holiday. I paid, but she’s insisting on the master suite. Can I tell her that I’d like it for myself?”

”My MIL is a nasty cow and constantly undermines me to DH and DCs in our home. Now she has announced that she wants to move in. Should I keep my mouth shut or tell DH I don’t want her here?”

For the love of God! How much shite are women conditioned to accept that they have to ask strangers on the internet for validation that their very obvious, understandable feelings are totally legitimate? The stock answer to every thread should be “Tell them to get to fuck!”

Yeah, totally.

And they keep piling on, even though the same criticism has been directed to the OP a hundred times over.

HollyKnight · 25/02/2024 21:42

People who copy and paste the full OP (not even using the quote function) then put "YABU" after it.

....... and who conduct a whole thread, with their posts dotted randomly through it, making no sense because they don't quote the person they're replying to.

Dottiethekangaroo · 25/02/2024 21:57

People who start their post with ‘long time poster’ then quote old posts to drive home the point.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 25/02/2024 22:01

When 1 rogue poster, possibly a troll says something outrageous and time and time again people reply, giving the poster exactly what they want. Then along comes those who clearly didn't RTFT properly saying 'I can't believe all the posters saying (outrageous thing), 'the ableism / sexism etc on this thread is so depressing' or worse 'I'm reporting this thread'.

Farmageddon · 25/02/2024 22:01

OPs who post once and don't come back to their own thread, inevitably it rambles on for 10 or so pages, and we never get answers to loads of questions. Very annoying.
