Mumsnet posts which drive me mad

Anyone hate these posts?

  • really really really long posts
  • long posts with NO paragraphs
  • posts which start ‘ I have a friend, let’s call her Jane; her DH, let’s call him Sam… you can’t bloody well follow the post. Much easier just to say Friend and DH.
Any others? 😊
OP posts:

An example of posts that drive me wild are “DP cheated on me with 30 women, makes me sleep outside and forces me to eat dog food but I love him, should I take him back?”

Yes, wildly exaggerated but you get my point.

"But he's such a good dad though! The children adore him"

Kittensat36 · 25/02/2024 21:39

Yes!!! Especially when the OP makes War And Peace look like a pamphlet.

😂😂

auspreg · 26/02/2024 05:57

Using "they" instead of he/she. But then they usually slip up during the post and say he/she at some stage anyways 😂

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 26/02/2024 05:57

I am irritates by the 'here' posters who believe they are expert witnesses in whatever is being discussed.

Man here.
Teacher here.
Polar explorer here.

Why not just say what you want to say, then add 'That's been my experience as a polar explorer.'

I can't even properly express why I find it so annoying!

rubyredknowsitall · 26/02/2024 05:59

I hate the phrase "give your head a wobble".

I'll wobble your bloody head....

rubyredknowsitall · 26/02/2024 06:00

Mumoftwo1312 · 26/02/2024 05:26

"But he's such a good dad though! The children adore him"

They always say that!!!

21ZIGGY · 26/02/2024 06:10

While I have the opportunity to say it, for the love of god stop saying "think..." it drives me up the wall.

Ie. We are going to a function, think office christmas party
We are buying stuff for our home, think dining table

Just say what it is!!

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 26/02/2024 06:18

Those OPs who post on AIBU, are clearly unreasonable….

and then admit it, with good grace, a couple of posts later.

The correct response is to hunker down, become more and more unreasonable, and eventually flounce.

A reasonable unreasonable AIBU just isn’t on.

Boomer1964 · 26/02/2024 06:33

Probably my age but really don't like swearing. Sorry.

PinkTeaForMe · 26/02/2024 06:36

I have never read a funnier thread on MN. I'm lying in bed in absolute stitches, trying not to wake DH as I read this. You guys are absolutely hilarious and I totally agree with all of the above. I keep coming back though, so it must be because I secretly enjoy being so irritated by other MNers.

"Pound shop private detectives" and "trauma ghouls" 🤣 and someone who said about prewritten posts waiting for a celebrity to die just so they can be first to announce it 😂😂🤣🤣😂 Absolutely hilarious!

Keep 'em coming!

Zyq · 26/02/2024 06:38

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 25/02/2024 22:27

Can't say it annoys me but puzzles me...I don't see why some posters feel the need to say that they have name changed are a regular poster, then mention old threads such as "pom bears" to "prove" that.

Why not just name change and post?

Because if it appears to be a first post people think it's come from a troll.

And the ones who assume all lawyers offer 30 minutes' free advice.

Sweetheart7 · 26/02/2024 06:44

TheShellBeach · 25/02/2024 21:26

People who quote the whole OP when they're responding.

Because people will often flat out deny what they have said.

Zyq · 26/02/2024 06:44

The competitive cleanliness threads. Someone asks if it's OK to shower once a day, and sets up a long thread of people vying with each other about the number of showers they have, what they use in the shower, how many gallons of shower gel they use, how they exfoliate their entire skin every hour - and excoriating anyone who does any less as "grim". Ditto with how often they clean their floors/surfaces, how often they wash sheets/towerls/clothes. It's a wonder they have time for anything else in their lives, and god only knows what they are doing to the planet.

Redglitter · 26/02/2024 06:48

The ones where the grief vultures are hovering & competing

'I couldn't sleep last night worrying about the OP'

'The OP was the first thing I thought of this morning'

Get a life!!

Tatonka · 26/02/2024 06:53

I hate the ones where it sounds like a medical emergency and they're on MN asking for advice 🙄

lotsofpeoplenametheirswords · 26/02/2024 06:54

People who respond to another post with 'you seem really angry about this, you should take a break from MN'.... when nothing about the post is angry. People can be passionate about something but not remotely angry and those that respond that way clearly have no idea what anger actually is.

HRTQueen · 26/02/2024 06:55

Demands for an op to return

usually after a number of spiteful so called honest posts

TealSapphire · 26/02/2024 06:59

Oh yes, the posts about their partner who is cruel and uncaring and then after being told to leave the cunt 'oh I can't break up the family he's a wonderful father'.

Then there's the ones that are finally free of the piece of shit 'should I take him back?' Yeah do it your kids will thank you.

My evil MIL bought my baby (insert a rattle, a christmas outfit etc) and I wanted to get them their first x. She's ruined everything.

And the ones who are apparently environmentally conscious but clean every inch of their house daily, shower every hour and wash every sheet and towel every single day.

Dontjudgeme101 · 26/02/2024 07:00

Farmageddon · 25/02/2024 22:01

OPs who post once and don't come back to their own thread, inevitably it rambles on for 10 or so pages, and we never get answers to loads of questions. Very annoying.

This 100%

Weddingmom · 26/02/2024 07:01

I hate the ones where you’re making a bit of a whinge about a friend and they tell you that you’re a terrible friend because everybody knows you can never ever criticise your friends.

I’m like what the fuck

HappiestSleeping · 26/02/2024 07:08

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/02/2024 21:30

People who post in AIBU about anything and everything for traffic. That's at least 80% of threads in AIBU I reckon.

People who post in Aibu but have already made up their minds but just want validation.

This 👆

People who post in AIBU when there isn't an AIBU.

march2 · 26/02/2024 07:09

I don't really like the whole DD thing. I also hate the use of 'baby' without a the/your e.g. you will get no sleep when baby is here. I'll throw in boobing as a verb for good measure.

I also find MN incredibly tolerant of what would be seen as antisocial behaviour by most, such as kids playing videos in restaurants and on the train, kicking balls at the fence endlessly etc. I have kids. I tell them not to disturb other people, I don't expect others to put up with their unreasonable noise or behaviour.

JamesPringle · 26/02/2024 07:12

The people who reply to posters' threads about miserable relationships with the advice that where children are involved, the only excuse to "break up a family" is abuse. Those poor kids, having an unhappy relationship.model.
