Anyone hate these posts?

  • really really really long posts
  • long posts with NO paragraphs
  • posts which start ‘ I have a friend, let’s call her Jane; her DH, let’s call him Sam… you can’t bloody well follow the post. Much easier just to say Friend and DH.
Any others? 😊

People who post in AIBU about anything and everything for traffic. That's at least 80% of threads in AIBU I reckon.

People who post in Aibu but have already made up their minds but just want validation.

Then there re the posters who get angry because they don't get the validation they want in AIBU...

Nowtnorsummat · 25/02/2024 23:00

The 'you should show this thread to DP/MIL etc' advice...

When would this ever result in someone when being confronted by a friend / partner/family member airing their shared (and possibly skewed version) of personal issues to a bunch of randoms backing down and opening a magnum of the warm and fuzzies?

pickytube · 25/02/2024 23:01

When the op doesn't come back to the thread for a few hours after posting.

Rufilla · 25/02/2024 23:02

The brisk, nannying tone that some posters adopt when doling out ‘advice’. If I see the infantilising phrase ‘use your words’ or anything about big girl pants it turns me against that poster instantly. Not saying that sometimes people can’t benefit from being told to be more assertive, but there’s a way of doing it that doesn’t involve speaking to them like they’re a small child.

Also can’t abide posters who become aggro over nothing and those who, because their own poor logic or reading comprehension, take you to task over things you didn’t say.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 25/02/2024 23:03

@Menomeno some of it is false naivety. They know damn well what's reasonable.

How can you avoid that? People have lives, responsibilities, families.

Mine is people saying something they don't like must be American. We've already had one on this thread. I'm American born and bred and I've never heard the term, "potty shot."

This gets my goat too and I'm not American. "We don't do anything for Halloween. It's a horrible American invention".
So's the car and the modern lightbulb Sandra and I don't see you sitting in the dark and travelling everywhere by horse and cart.

Friend A and friend B, exclamation marks after every sentence.

KissMyArt · 25/02/2024 23:09

A parking one!!!!!
A shopping one!!!!!
A toilet one!!!!!

No idea why this style of thread title annoys me, but it does!!!!!!!!!!

SouthLondonMum22 · 25/02/2024 23:10

When a poster accuses someone of being a man just because they disagree with them.

When a poster tells someone to calm down, again, usually just because they disagree with them.

RampantIvy · 25/02/2024 23:10

Posters who don't bother to read the OP's updates - cancel the cheque anyone?

I feel sad and frustrated for women who prioritise having another baby with their abusive, jobless, lazy, addict partner; and posters who lack the assertiveness to stand up to narcissistic family members and "friends".

pickytube · 25/02/2024 23:11

@marmaladeandpeanutbutter I created a few threads before and I did it when I had enough time to respond and not in the middle of chores.

Rufilla · 25/02/2024 23:11

And, yes, the class threads where posters end up jostling to prove they are in closer proximity to the truly posh than others. Someone will make an observation and then they’ll be put in their place by another poster who points out that ‘old money’ would never do XYZ, implying that first poster is so far removed from the world of the upper class that they can’t even get the basics right. Basically, the fawning over the upper crust, which thankfully I have never actually encountered in real life.

Porfirio · 25/02/2024 23:18

There are an unbelievable amount of spineless women on here who apparently won't say boo to a goose!

'I was on the school run when a truck mounted the pavement and knocked my pram into a hedge and we've spent six hours in A&E and baby has a concussion. Should I have said anything to the driver?'

Our neighbour for the past thirty years has parked on my drive. We have to park three miles away to find the nearest space and walk back home. I'm not sure if I should mention it next time I see him?'

'My boyfriends ex wife came up to me in town and stabbed me. Should I tell the police or will he think I'm just being jealous?'

That kind of nonsense.

OP, don't listen to @Rufilla or anyone else, listen to me. Memememe, I am the only source of truth. I'm the only one who truly has your best interests at heart. Those other posters are truly vile.

(@Rufilla, I am joking!)

People who do this.

Porfirio · 25/02/2024 23:22

The elusive 'hobby'!

'My husband has a hobby three times a week but I can't say what it is as it's outing!'

Ferret wrestling? 🤷🏼‍♀️

saltinesandcoffeecups · 25/02/2024 23:24

I hate the A, B, and C posts. They read like algebra problems.

Posts that don't quote what they're responding to!

People who do this.

Do what exactly though? List things? Use bullet points?

Maybe it should be obvious to me, but I don't know what you mean.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 25/02/2024 23:35

On the quoting the OP… I have a habit of doing that. A it’s easier then tagging the OP, and B- it’s habit. Another forum that I used to spend a lot of time on allowed users to delete their own posts. However if it didn’t allow them to delete the quotes… so it saved a lot of 180s and deleted context from throwing a thread into chaos.

FuzzyManul · 25/02/2024 23:37

I was shopping when someone gave me an odd look. I dropped my basket on the spot and have spent the past 83 hours sobbing and shaking. Should I sue the supermarket?
