Mumsnet posts which drive me mad

Anyone hate these posts?

  • really really really long posts
  • long posts with NO paragraphs
  • posts which start ‘ I have a friend, let’s call her Jane; her DH, let’s call him Sam… you can’t bloody well follow the post. Much easier just to say Friend and DH.
Any others? 😊
OP posts:

Folk who declare they have name changed but have been here years..i want to post NO ONE CARES

KissMyArt · 25/02/2024 22:05

I have a new job (think finance industry) and I earn good money (think 6 figure salary) but I also have a hobby (think outdoors) and I don't get enough time to myself.

We're all perfectly capable of thinking, thank you! 🙄

Thepeopleversuswork · 25/02/2024 22:06

The daft ones about money.

”Why is my friend able to afford a £2 million townhouse and send her kids to private school and I can’t?”

Er, let’s see: maybe she has more money than you?

Or the “What do Mumsnet mums do for a job?” posts.

Invariably three or four posters on all such threads tip up to say that it’s not possible for a woman to earn £100k plus per year.

A never ending and unedifying parade of envy, chippiness and stupidity.

ToWhitToWhoo · 25/02/2024 22:10

People who derail threads by troll-hunting; pointing out that something similar has been posted in the past; or pointing out inconsistences in someone's account. (Especially as genuine posters may change a detail or two in order to reduce the risk of being outed.) No one denies that trolls exist; but if you think that someone is a troll or posting in bad faith, report them to Mumsnet; don't act like a poundshop private detective on the thread.

People who act as they are entitled to updates, constantly nag for them, or imply that if an OP hasn't come back, they must be a troll.

BIWI · 25/02/2024 22:10

The thoughtless ageism.

Mostly directed at older women - especially 'boomers' - but also many horrible posts about younger people/teenagers.

Lol, you have a valid point - there are several if not more every day, lol

Those that wind me up:

Those who feel they are entitled to an inheritance but got short-changed.

Most inheritance threads where people complain about mum/dad not thinking about x/y/ and z

My OH won't pull their weight - FFS leave them if you are that unhappy.

Non-stop awful neighbours - we must never forget often its one side of the story for us

The drip-feeding OP's

Those who envy those who have done well

Igoranant posters

Agitators

Those that swear when having an argument about a subject, just shows they have lost the argument

The trolls that go around calling others a "troll" just because they lost the argument or are envious.

Thepeopleversuswork · 25/02/2024 22:14

@ToWhitToWhoo

God yeah I hate this.

I’ve always thought there’s something a bit scary about the people who become massively invested in a thread where an OP has discovered infidelity. Like they are turning someone else’s pain into an episode of Eastenders.

Trauma ghouls who come back multiple times a day to say: “Any news OP? What was his expression like when he got in from work?” Etc. Creepy as fuck.

Scarletttulips · 25/02/2024 22:15

Also hate posters copying the full first page on the page 17 without reading anything else.

Posters who can’t write in sentences with valid information, just garble on and on ….

Peopel who really are clueless about google.

PixieLaLar · 25/02/2024 22:17

When they use person A or person B, it’s usually very obvious which one they are anyway 😂

CremeEggOverload · 25/02/2024 22:18

TheShellBeach · 25/02/2024 21:26

People who quote the whole OP when they're responding.

How do you not do that? When I come to quote I get this view....

It's all or nothing on app? Perhaps I've got an old version.

Mumsnet posts which drive me mad
Citrusandginger · 25/02/2024 22:19

Reverses, text speak and arsey OPs. Although to be fair some of the arsey one's turn out to be entertaining.

Begging threads with a full bingo card of excuses and reasons why only Mumsnetters can help.

Gloriousgardener11 · 25/02/2024 22:21

And the posters who want help to name their children.
FFS name your own bloody child!

Donthaveausernameinmind · 25/02/2024 22:21

When someone posts something quite generic like 'he's not interested/my MIL is difficult/my kids are playing up' and someone jumps on it 'You've posted this before!!'

mitogoshi · 25/02/2024 22:23

Any post that involve stepmums complaining about sdc since their own child has been born, though more specifically when they moan that their dp is spending too much time with the sdc (ie their own children) AND the gap between the kids are tiny eg the complainant must have been pregnant within a year or so of meeting or whining about maintenance to the sdc ... every day there's people moaning!

I'm a stepmother!

Bibbetybobbity · 25/02/2024 22:23

For me it’s people who cannot read the OP. It causes so much confusion…Just read the post- the kid isn’t 7, they’re year 7, or whatever. Drives me mad. Phew, good to let that out 😆

And also posters who say ‘what’s X’ when they could find it in a fraction of the time by just using you know- bloody google!!!!

kitsuneghost · 25/02/2024 22:23

CremeEggOverload · 25/02/2024 22:18

On my computer I just go to the bottom of the page and type.
On android there is a blue circle bottom right with reply.
Both of these do not quote the original post.

DistingusedSocialCommentator

Nope. Just shows they can swear without being strangled by their underwear. Swearing is fucking great.

How about people who can't quite manage 'Distinguished' - what's your opinion of them?

Bringtheweatherwithyou · 25/02/2024 22:24

The posters who reply to a question about e.g. jeans that was posted in 'Style & Beauty' to declare that the OP should wear what is 'comfortable', that they will continue to wear whatever type of jeans they like and they don't care one jot about fashion.

Why do these people bother even replying

LightDrizzle · 25/02/2024 22:24

I agree about the complex ones involving persons A, B, C, D, & E and their various relationships to each other and interactions that are impossible to follow. Particularly when it’s couched in those terms because the OP claims she want to present things impartially but it’s still blindingly obvious whose side she is on and wants posters to agree with.

People who post about their horrific lazy, nasty partners, sparing no detail of their awful behaviour, and then it transpires they are posting for advice or commiseration as to why he won’t get married despite initially saying he did want to get married, 8 years ago, before the 3 kids.

echt · 25/02/2024 22:24

Is this a blue line?
How old do you think I look?
What size do you think I am?
No paragraphs
Thread titles that generalise about entire groups when the actual thread is just about one personal experience.

JamNittyGritty · 25/02/2024 22:25

TheShellBeach · 25/02/2024 21:26

People who quote the whole OP when they're responding.

This! Just why..? Fills me with (irrational) annoyance

stemmedroses · 25/02/2024 22:26

The Am I Pregnant posts where the OP gives the date of her last period, when she had sex, usually has a cycle of 27-29 days and its now the morning of Day 30.

Just do a test! Nobody is going to be able to confirm your pregnancy over the Internet!

WhateverMate · 25/02/2024 22:26

Posters who pick up on others SPAG when it's clearly obvious what they mean and they can just ignore it.

Making others feel small, does NOT make you look big.

And no, you're not 'doing them a favour' unless you think after all their years of schooling, you're going to be the chosen one who they'll finally learn from 🙄

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 25/02/2024 22:27

Can't say it annoys me but puzzles me...I don't see why some posters feel the need to say that they have name changed are a regular poster, then mention old threads such as "pom bears" to "prove" that.

Why not just name change and post?
