To think I'm about to get very sick

I just ate one week old cooked lobster. It was in the fridge the entire time. And I looked at it and it looked fine. And it smelt completely fine. After about 10 mouthfuls I noticed green specks everywhere.

This was only 5 minutes ago. I'm probably about to be very very sick aren't I? To make matters worse DH and I had a raging argument just an hour ago, so he'll probably be quite pleased that I'm going to be spewing and shitting my insides out.

Yes you might get sick having eaten one week old lobster, it’s usually safe for 3 days after cooking so a week is quite a bit longer. What do the green specs look like, do you have a picture? You might get lucky though and be absolutely fine.

Babsexxx · 25/01/2024 15:50

Lol no green in lobsters normal you’d of been shitting and sicking 30 minutes ago! But your braver than me I eat cooked lobster immediately because I’m totally greedy but I wouldn’t push 2-3 days as a absoloute maximum! So you are brave!

ohnowhatdidido · 25/01/2024 15:54

Not brave, just stupid 😭😭

Lurkingandlearning · 25/01/2024 15:55

You were unreasonable to have not eaten it straight away. My mind is now torn between the thought of what you’re probably doing right now and wondering where I can get a lobster

Jenda · 25/01/2024 15:55

I would make myself sick to try and stop too much of it being digested

Babsexxx · 25/01/2024 15:58

O op I really hope your ok!! Maybe induce some sickness if your not feeling very confident but I would presume you’d be feeling it already by now…my sister thought she hit a bargain at a local restaurant with Seafood and safe to say there was reasons it was cheap honestly the effects kicked in very soon!

TheChosenTwo · 25/01/2024 15:58

You might be really sick, you might be absolutely fine, you might be somewhere in the middle and have the runs for a few days.

I’ve got the constitution of an ox and I don’t think I’ve ever eating anything that’s made me sick, and I don’t take any notice of use by dates. Not sure I’d eat week old lobster though; purely because I don’t think it even sounds very appealing. Possibly if it was really bad though it would have stank so badly you wouldn’t have been able to eat it?

Lalgarh · 25/01/2024 15:59

Doesn't coca cola neutralise stomach bugs?

MummyLK · 25/01/2024 16:00

Not sure about lobsters, but I'm quite sad for you that your DH will be pleased you're unwell 😰

KreedKafer · 25/01/2024 16:00

I think people assume that if you eat something that’s gone off, you will always be ill every time, but that’s really not the case. Yes, it’s possible your lobster was on the turn, and if so then it’s possible that it might make ill, but you could just as easily be absolutely fine. It’s a risk, not a guarantee.

I’ve had diagnosed food poisoning a couple of times, but I’ve also eaten far more things, either carelessly or unwittingly, that could have given me food poisoning but didn’t.

More importantly, though, who the hell has leftover lobster?

KreedKafer · 25/01/2024 16:01

Maybe induce some sickness if your not feeling very confident

Absolutely do not do this

KreedKafer · 25/01/2024 16:02

Jenda · 25/01/2024 15:55

LauderSyme · 25/01/2024 16:02

Could the green bits have been specks of tomalley (lobster's digestive gland)?
Still not widely recommended to eat I'm afraid.

Best of luck!

Genuine question - why wouldn't you do this?

xanthippe8 · 25/01/2024 16:15

I was thinking it could be tomally too, but there's no way I would eat lobster that had been in the fridge for that long. I really hope you don't get ill.

EarringsandLipstick · 25/01/2024 16:19

There's a possibility that you could be sick but it's not absolute. It's really awful that you think your 'D'H will be happy at the prospect 😥

Also - was this lobster as in, bought in a shell, boiled etc? or was it processed e.g. came in a jar or tin or similar?

If it's the first, you are a bit daft if you thought it was ok to eat; if it is the second you may be absolutely fine.

NonPlayerCharacter · 25/01/2024 16:21

To make matters worse DH and I had a raging argument just an hour ago, so he'll probably be quite pleased that I'm going to be spewing and shitting my insides out.

I think this is the bigger problem. You had an argument so he'll be pleased if you get food poisoning?

LegoDeathTrap · 25/01/2024 16:23

I’d make myself vomit right now.

How did you not know it was a week old?? Do you have multiple lobsters lounging around in the fridge??

Catza · 25/01/2024 16:24

KreedKafer · 25/01/2024 16:02

Don’t do this.

Not a very convincing advice without you actually justifying your reasoning.

Munchyseeds2 · 25/01/2024 16:25

Jenda · 25/01/2024 15:55

This is what I would do

percypigletss · 25/01/2024 16:26

@ohnowhatdidido I would be surprised if seafood could be so off as to be visibly mouldy, but smelt and tasted fine?

Hopefully it always looked like that and you'll be fine OP - I think regardless you will have some nausea because the mind is a powerful thing!

Cornettoninja · 25/01/2024 16:28

Holly60 · 25/01/2024 16:10

I’d like to know too. Obviously you can’t purge something like bleach unless you’re under medical supervision but I fail to see the issue with food tbh.

MonsteraMama · 25/01/2024 16:28

Honestly I think you'll probably be fine, the recommendation is 4 days max for lobster so it's not as if you're massively over that. Was it in or out of the shell? Better if it was out. The green stuff might've just been tomally.

Saying that I am probably not the person to give advice on this as I tend to just eat stuff and hope for the best waaaay past it's recommended refrigeration date. In my mind we never even had fridges hundreds of years ago and the species managed to survive so I'll probably be fine. Mam was appalled to discover I'd eaten 3 month old paté once, was convinced death was coming for me.

Fingers crossed you're ok 🤞

Yerroblemom1923 · 25/01/2024 16:28

What @Jenda said. No idea why people are saying don't. Surely better up and out rather than something rotten going through your digestive system later on....

Rainbowshit · 25/01/2024 16:29

Are you sure the green flecks were not tomalley rather than mould?
