Am I boring…which would you prefer?

This Saturday…friends birthday lunch..lots of girls only, beautiful place by the beach, lovely food, drinks, entertainment, quite fancy and you need to get dressed up..2-3 hours long.

My original plan for Saturday (before she planned it)

Drive to a beautiful nature place with trees, stream, picnic tables..take Dd, 5 and Ddog, with Dh, pack a picnic, Dd to wear wellies and take a net in the stream
walk for a couple of hours

Which would you prefer?

For context, I’m 45

Your original plan can be easily deferred.

Surely the OP’s point is that she’s not fussed about getting dressed up and going dancing at all. She would rather have a chilled out walk / picnic / play around outdoors with her kid.

I really don’t know why people are trying to solve the issue with suggestions about timings - that’s not the point.

Exactly. The post was "AIBU and boring to feel like I'd prefer to stick with my walk rather than the lunch?"

Not, "how can I do both? The concept of doing things on different days is a radical one I can't fathom so please explain that to me".

She's musing on her feelings, not asking for solutions.

the thread will shortly come to an end @DappledThings and so you can short relax and enjoy your evening! 😂

But I'm enjoying myself!😁

ThatWhiteElephant · 18/01/2024 18:22

I'm pretty anti social but I'd pick the friend's birthday lunch. You can do the other option on Sunday or any weekend.

sandysings · 18/01/2024 18:27

I'm a with you OP. I'm a quiet low key person and don't like fancy events, but I suppose I'd make the effort for a good friend.

MRSMTO · 18/01/2024 18:33

The second option sounds lovely, even in the cold which of course you can wrap up against but also because the first option sounds like horrific organised fun which I have never wanted to be part of!

HowDoYouSolveAProblemLikeMyRear · 18/01/2024 18:34

I'd MUCH prefer the nature option.

Plenty of my friends would prefer the dressy option though.

lookofthelioness · 18/01/2024 18:34

Nothing wrong with you op. Everyone is different.

I love quiet walks visiting derelict castles and graveyards, and stone circles.

I also love an amazing fancy michelin restaurant dinner.

I don't think I'm either boring or fancy!

crochetmonkey74 · 18/01/2024 18:35

Do both
There's an element of judginess here like the first one is silly and frivolous and the better one is the family day
But both are lovely

HowDoYouSolveAProblemLikeMyRear · 18/01/2024 18:36

By the way, like you, I'd go to the friend's birthday bash as a priority, but look forward to doing the lovely outdoor activity another weekend.

But then I'm middle-aged and boring 😉

olympicsrock · 18/01/2024 18:42

Option 1 - also 45. Would enjoy both but family day could be easily rearranged and would enjoy 1 more.

juice92 · 18/01/2024 19:54

The first

Missingmyusername · 18/01/2024 19:55

Both, because I’m greedy 😳

Ange1233556 · 18/01/2024 20:03

Absolutely lunch with friends! Love my boys but I’m with them all the time - wish I saw my friends more but so tricky as we’re all so busy

LiquidGold315 · 18/01/2024 20:36

Option 1, birthday lunch with friend.
You can picnic/walk with your family anytime.

Beezknees · 18/01/2024 20:42

Both sound great to me. My child is too old to want to hang out with me now so I do more of the first one nowadays.

ItsBeenRaining · 18/01/2024 21:11

I don't get this, so the first option is your friend gets to see her friends and you at the beach.

The second option she gets to see your dog, your daughter, your husband and you ?

Why on earth would she pick the second option.

No! Not again..... It isn't complicated.

They aren't options, they are competing plans.

OP had a plan with her family. Then friend said "it's my birthday, come to lunch" so OP has to ditch her previous plans to go to lunch instead.

JMSA · 18/01/2024 21:17

Neither. Being the introvert I am, I choose alone time Grin

Dermotissuchafidget · 18/01/2024 21:56

@FourLeggedBuckers @DappledThings 🙏Exactly! Feel I’m going a little mad reading some of the comments 😂

Have you clarified what you’re going to do Op?

She did. At 17.23 last night.
This is my friend, so I will obviously go with the first thing, but if I could I’d rather the second.

Zanatdy · 19/01/2024 07:41

Friends bday
