To never ever buy from Snag again?

I'm just beyond disgusted and feel I need to vent.

I've always liked snag tights. I bought vouchers to save them in Lockdown, have spent hundreds with them. Liked their products and ethos- inclusive and female led.

Yesterday I went on their website, can definitely say it's my fault that I clicked on their NSFW collection, but I didn't expect what I found. Patches saying ' chke me' and 'cMSL*t'. Maybe I'm just a pearl clutching prude but I found these really offensive and not what I expect from a company with their ethos. I've put a pic below.

I posted in their Facebook group which I'm on highlighting that I thought this was a misjudgement on their part, that these were very misogynistic, and fed into a culture of violence against women which claims the life of a woman or girl every 11 minutes.

They declined my post and sent me a reply which I'll attach- I'm kink shaming apparently.

I find this really reprehensible and never want to spend a penny with them again!

I never thought I was prudish, whatever adults do between themselves is up to them, but I don't really want to buy from a clothing provider who is promoting this- aibu!?

Thanks for highlighting this OP. I'm sure as hell won't be buying from them again.

Hmmmmaybe · 17/01/2024 17:23

There’s a reason why shame exists and it is exactly to shame men who get sexual pleasure fe violence against women

ManateeFair · 17/01/2024 17:24

Really not sure why you'd need to ask 'AIBU to stop buying things from a company I don't like'. You're an adult. I'm sure you can make that choice for yourself just like everyone else.

1990s · 17/01/2024 17:24

Also just ordered from Better Tights - thanks for recommending.

I was getting more and more unhappy with Snags approach but this is just ridiculous tbh.

FakeHoisinDuck · 17/01/2024 17:25

I was going to try their bras as I'm larger and they look great.

But not now. I donr know how they can defend that (teenager on sm account!?)

Please can someone tag them in this on social media? I'm old and it's beyond me!

Lulalola · 17/01/2024 17:27

Not allowed to link it here but I suggest looking at the snag thread on tattle to see what this company are really like and what they support

Flatulence · 17/01/2024 17:29

While I personally don't like those items, they're sold on a site not just marked "nsfw", but called nsfw. It's a bit of a giveaway that it's going to contain some very 'adult' items.
If an adult wishes to buy and wear these patches then that's up to them andSome people are into BDSM and the like; it's a pretty common "kink" as kinks go. Ann Summers is on loads of high streets with window displays of pretty lingerie but inside it sells whips and handcuffs and the like. Snag NSFW isn't really much different. If you don't like it, that's fine - don't give them your money.

cansu · 17/01/2024 17:30

Have just bought some tights. I find those patches and the response pretty horrible. Why on earth do they need to sell such rubbish? Surely this is not going to make them money compared to the loss of customers who find them offensive?

Boomboom22 · 17/01/2024 17:31

I believe the law changed to make non fatal strangulation an offence and so not possible to consent to.
Therefore this is essentially breaching the law as it stands.

MacLaine · 17/01/2024 17:33

Vom. That is disgusting.

Terfosaurus · 17/01/2024 17:35

I can't even find a link to the nsfw on their website. Not saying it's not an issue that they sell it, but it's a different website altogether isn't it?

Anyway. I love my snags. None of the other brands I've tried fit as well or have such good colours. Which is a pain because I don't want to support companies who's ethos is bad. But otoh I do want nice tights that fit.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 17/01/2024 17:35

They lost me when they started putting men in tights on the tights section. I want to see what they look like on women, not a man.

WotNoUserName · 17/01/2024 17:36

Even grosser than I thought they were. I'm sure we'll all be told we're middle aged prude though 🙄 I'd rather be that than condone misogyny and violence against women.

MillicentRogers · 17/01/2024 17:36

They are a vile company and blocked me on Facebook after their awful adverts appeared and I commented that men dressed as women are not and never will be women.

Beetlebumz · 17/01/2024 17:36

Really gross. Boycotting them.

olympicsrock · 17/01/2024 17:37

Clearly I am old had to look up NSFW “not safe for work”. Would still not have known that this was about sex / kinks!

NotMyTights · 17/01/2024 17:39

Sparklesocks · 17/01/2024 17:15

Is it not from their NSFW site (separate to their main site) - not excusing it but it seems to be sex clothes and BDSM accessories based rather than just on their main site alongside the tights.

https://snagnsfw.com/

Yes this is where you can blame me, and I guess the reason I'm actually beginning to doubt regardless of my disgust whether I'm unreasonable.
I seriously naively thought it was going to be suspenders, stockings, dress up- I'm going to the rocky horror show and thought ooh I'll have a look.
The branding across the two sites is the same and the nsfw Instagram and Facebook linked on the 'normal' site, so didn't understand that they are perhaps supposed to be so separate! Regardless I don't think you can be all to everyone- and can't claim you're fighting the 'fashion patriarchy' when you are selling that elsewhere.
I wasn't aware of controversy and other threads- more fool me!

Oh damn, I was about to do a really big order from them with my Christmas money from relatives Sad I'm glad I saw this in time. Not in a million years is a penny of my money going to a company that peddles this vicious pornsick misogyny.

Sussurations · 17/01/2024 17:41

Every time I read or hear about them they seem to have narrowed their potential customer base.

MorningSunshineSparkles · 17/01/2024 17:43

Tbh I don’t really care that much. I’m there for the tights, not the add ons. Sure they’re to someone’s taste or they’d not be selling them

DogualCat · 17/01/2024 17:44

They have moved from being a company who made underwear for plus size women to one that glorifies fetishism and degrading women. Their NSFW Facebook page is fetishist AGPs in their grotty houses posting pictures of themselves in tights and showing off their pathetic bulges. The choke me patches are just vile, that’s not being sex positive and feminist. It’s making money out of something dangerous. Ask a woman who has been a victim of attempted strangulation as a form of domestic abuse if the patches are empowering, I doubt you’ll get a positive response.

Hi I've addressed this in my previous comment and do acknowledge I was a bit naive.
When I got to the landing page I was like oh sex toys, who'd a think! Not offended by that whatsoever, though felt an odd thing to branch out into, but these patches in my view should not be sold by a company who specifically state their ethos as smashing the patriarchy. It's a complete contradiction.

I can just imagine my five year old seeing this on someone's bag in a cafe and asking me to explain.

Awful.

VeryHungrySeaCucumber · 17/01/2024 17:47

"Choke me". From any company, any time, 'NSFW' or sex-clothing/sex-equipment company or not, no. Big red flag.

And... safe, consensual BDSM - ie as it should be, whatever else it involves - does not involve choking ie strangulation, we need to get away from the idea it does.

I'm definitely no prude but there are things I won't condone/put up with.

Snag, you're pathetic.
