To never ever buy from Snag again?

I'm just beyond disgusted and feel I need to vent.

I've always liked snag tights. I bought vouchers to save them in Lockdown, have spent hundreds with them. Liked their products and ethos- inclusive and female led.

Yesterday I went on their website, can definitely say it's my fault that I clicked on their NSFW collection, but I didn't expect what I found. Patches saying ' chke me' and 'cMSL*t'. Maybe I'm just a pearl clutching prude but I found these really offensive and not what I expect from a company with their ethos. I've put a pic below.

I posted in their Facebook group which I'm on highlighting that I thought this was a misjudgement on their part, that these were very misogynistic, and fed into a culture of violence against women which claims the life of a woman or girl every 11 minutes.

They declined my post and sent me a reply which I'll attach- I'm kink shaming apparently.

I find this really reprehensible and never want to spend a penny with them again!

I never thought I was prudish, whatever adults do between themselves is up to them, but I don't really want to buy from a clothing provider who is promoting this- aibu!?

Disgusting misogyny and promoting the strangulation of women is horrific

stitchy · 17/01/2024 17:55

It's just pure try-hard, cool-girl, dick pandering misogynistic crap dressed up to seem progressive.

I'm tempted to yank their chain though and complain about how offensively hetero-normative they all are and just centre the penis. Where are their clit-slag patches?

Sallyingon · 17/01/2024 17:56

Absolutely revolting. I didn't know what nsfw meant. I will have a look at Better tights

Really not sure why you'd need to ask 'AIBU to stop buying things from a company I don't like'. You're an adult. I'm sure you can make that choice for yourself just like everyone else.

Fair enough I'm having a good rant and a flounce because I genuinely thought they would at least acknowledge my concerns and I was flabbergasted!

Yeah it's funny that- there are more patches and they are all about the domination (and degradation) of women, not men!

They stopped any chance of getting my money some time ago. Unfortunately it's everywhere. I like to report knicker reviews from AGP's to M & S. The other day I actually had to do one on Bon Marche. It seems nowhere is safe from the pervs.

MorningSunshineSparkles · 17/01/2024 17:43

Tbh I don’t really care that much. I’m there for the tights, not the add ons. Sure they’re to someone’s taste or they’d not be selling them

Well I'm glad you live a life where you have not had to experience violence or it's aftershocks.

I have worked with traumatised women before, and normalising this kind of language and way of being treated DOES make women doubt themselves and delay leaving in situations where their lives are at risk.

I like snag to however I wouldn't want to identify as a cum slut or wear clothes made for cum sluts so on that basis it puts me off. I increasingly look at Snag and don't want to identify with their core customer base really. They do like the shock element don't they? So many other sites now offer what they was unique for. I do still like their tights. Not sure it will stop Mr buying from them. I'd not recommend them to my daughter though

@LadyGrinningSoul85 Mumsnet don't monitor anything. The model the chat forum uses relies on users to report posts, rather than proactive moderation. If you find posts here transphobic then report them using the Report option.

Portakalkedi · 17/01/2024 18:10

Don't know what that acronym is but a reputable company should not be selling stuff like that to anyone.

lifeturnsonadime · 17/01/2024 18:11

Seems that SNAG cares more about the boys than the dignity & safety of women.

GeneCity · 17/01/2024 18:13

That's disgusting - I haven't been a fan of Snag or their tights for a while, but that's horrific.

Just when you thought you could shop for a pair of tights with your kid sitting next to you, huh.

FakeHoisinDuck · 17/01/2024 18:13

I think "Lady" is more concerned about apparent transphobia (I thought trans people distanced themselves from agp/pervert men who get off on wearing womens clothing and exposing themselves anyway?) than they are about subjugation of women and women being choked and dying. And the normalisation of that.

Says a lot really.

DogualCat · 17/01/2024 18:14

What’s transphobic about not wanting strangulation, a dangerous act that claims the lives of women by abusive men, being fetishised?

Why do we, as women, now have to live in a time where nothing is just for us anymore? I don’t want to see men with bulges showing off tights. I don’t want to have men being awarded women of the year awards. I don’t want men using women’s spaces. I’m not transphobic, I’m a woman who wants women to have our place in the world that isn’t taken over by men in various forms time and time again.

FakeHoisinDuck · 17/01/2024 18:15

Exactly.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 17/01/2024 18:15

Tights for Blokes really should be their strap line.
It's a shame. They have moved from body positive and a decent product (adult dd like you was an enthusiastic customer?) To just courting more and more obscure niche audience.

I'd rather be a pearl clutching buddy than normalise violence against women.

Grow up.

RokaandRoll · 17/01/2024 18:18

I've bought from them in the past but will never do so again. Thanks for highlighting this, OP.

Did you mean to be misogynist and ageist?

Describing objecting to a sexual practice that is dangerous for women and used as an attempted defence for men who have killed their sexual partners as "pearl clutching" is just, wow.

GeneCity · 17/01/2024 18:19

^biddy 😄

Anyway, issues can be nuanced you know. It's not pearl clutching buddy stereotypes at one end of the spectrum, and boundary-pushing cool kids at the other.
