To never ever buy from Snag again?

I'm just beyond disgusted and feel I need to vent.

I've always liked snag tights. I bought vouchers to save them in Lockdown, have spent hundreds with them. Liked their products and ethos- inclusive and female led.

Yesterday I went on their website, can definitely say it's my fault that I clicked on their NSFW collection, but I didn't expect what I found. Patches saying ' chke me' and 'cMSL*t'. Maybe I'm just a pearl clutching prude but I found these really offensive and not what I expect from a company with their ethos. I've put a pic below.

I posted in their Facebook group which I'm on highlighting that I thought this was a misjudgement on their part, that these were very misogynistic, and fed into a culture of violence against women which claims the life of a woman or girl every 11 minutes.

They declined my post and sent me a reply which I'll attach- I'm kink shaming apparently.

I find this really reprehensible and never want to spend a penny with them again!

I never thought I was prudish, whatever adults do between themselves is up to them, but I don't really want to buy from a clothing provider who is promoting this- aibu!?

It's virtually impossible to get an invite but registration does open up now and again you just have to keep checking.

I thought an invite was possible by someone who was already registered but is it even harder than that?
I'll keep checking. I always want to reply when I read something but I'm like damn still can't sign up.

CapitalKnockers · 22/01/2024 22:50

I'm so saddened and disappointed to read about this, and Snag's response. I've been buying their products for years and like them a lot - I even bought their hideously expensive Christmas advent calendar last year as a treat to myself.

Now to be reading that I'm not their target audience at all, and concerns about being choked as something normal worries me. My ex husband attacked me, he pinned me down and tried to choke me to death so I feel very icky about any edgy jokes about choking. The 'kink shaming' argument is to my eyes just a worrying sign of the trend that hard-core porn is seen as normal now.

I wont be buying Snag again since it seems they don't want my business. Thanks to posters who have suggested alternatives.

LittleCharlotte · 22/01/2024 23:16

I'm really saddened by this too. I can't bear the increasing normalisation of frankly dangerous shit because people see it done in porn. I love Snag and buy a lot of their tights and dresses but I can't work any conscience continue to do so with an attitude like Brie 's, judging women for daring to judge other women.

We need more 'kink shaming'. More saying no, it's NOT mainstream to try to limit your partner's ability to breathe.

PickAChew · 22/01/2024 23:49

You don't need to be a member of tattle life to read the thread.

I most definitely am a middle aged prude but think that if you like a bit of slap with your tickle then fair enough but please don't subject me to TMI. If, however, you want to indulge in sexual behaviours that have a real and not insignificant risk of killing you then you really do need therapy. If you regularly jumped out of a first floor window onto a concrete patio for fun I would think you were a little unhinged and this is no different.

TheCheerfulNihilist · 23/01/2024 01:44

Some kinks should be shamed.

Tattle also hates MN fyi. You won’t be welcome with open arms.

One thread? There’s absolutely loads of crossover, it’s obvious.

HermioneWeasley · 23/01/2024 06:18

@CapitalKnockers im so sorry to hear that and I’m glad you’re safe now. Similarly I nearly lost a friend who was strangled by her ex. I don’t think it’s remotely cute or empowering. The women cheerleading this are useful idiots to the patriarchy.

There are several threads on MN with similar outrage to the Snag titles with lots of accusations similar - bullying, misogyny etc. But hey, I guess its ok THIS time because YOU want to go post on it.

Similarly there are threads on Tattle taking screenshots and taking the piss out of the batshit stuff that happens here.

You normally get a warning before giving a code to a MN user and are seen to be 'responsible' for them not to come over and start whinging.

No, I meant there’s loads of posters that post on both sites. I didn’t put it very clearly, sorry.

I mean its an interesting point though re: name calling and mud slinging which is happening on both Snag, Tattle and MN. No one has come out of this looking golden tbh!
Its almost like people are always going to have differing opinions......

Not all registered users can send an invite which is why it's difficult.

ChaToilLeam · 23/01/2024 13:45

Some kinks should be shamed. Some acts should be judged. And Brie is a bloody idiot, this “anything goes” approach is not to be benefit of women.

ChaToilLeam · 23/01/2024 13:46

Oh, and I am finding the thread on Tattle most amusing! They don’t hold back about those AGPs…!

Pollyannamex · 23/01/2024 14:06

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I will not buy from this company.

I tried Snag tights last winter but they were so baggy I used them to stuff a draught excluder 😂

asterel · 23/01/2024 17:46

Kink shaming! How very teenage of them.

Maybe we should instead call it what it is: what used to be called “being complicit in your own oppression”. It’s pretty hard to think of anything more misogynist than selling cheap-looking badges with “cum slut” on, and trying to pretend that’s somehow empowering.

No, it’s just promoting women getting used to being called misogynist slurs - and normalising that to the point where you can claim that women enjoy the eroticisation of their own objectification.

These people have watched so much porn they’ve addled their brains and lost any self-respect.

Thank you so much for that information. That makes sense as to why it's so hard. I follow a couple YouTubers pages on there and I am always itching to reply and comment.

Yep. Wearing / defending a badge asking to be violently assaulted and then getting upset by hurty words women who suggest that’s not a positive example.

RobinEllacotStrike · 24/01/2024 18:00

Looks like Snag have switched off comments & deleted existing comments on their Insta post.

Guess that was going really well for them then 😂😂

NotMyTights · 24/01/2024 18:49

@RobinEllacotStrike

I looked prompted by your post.
Hmm you are right but they haven't dropped it have they.
The most recent post is a pretty regular looking bloke in black skirt and tights- not in any way sexualised or dressed for fetish. He could probably work a more structured fitted skirt than Snags noughties throwback one. He looks fine, and it's not particularly controversial.
It wouldn't really sell me tights but it's not offensive.

And yet they are back harping on about 'shaming people into conformity is bullying' and making swipes at Mumsnet.

They really do have no perspective into the gravity of this issue.

Who are really the nasty bullies here...

To never ever buy from Snag again?

LunaNorth · 24/01/2024 19:19

Meanwhile, Mumsnet gives not a fuck about a bloke in a skirt.

Most of us grew up in the 80s ffs.

Carpooler · 24/01/2024 20:08

‘Shambles’ haha. Alternatively, grown women more concerned about the safety of women and girls than pornified man pleasing on a hosiery company’s FB page. Sign me up for the shambles then please.
