To never ever buy from Snag again?

I'm just beyond disgusted and feel I need to vent.

I've always liked snag tights. I bought vouchers to save them in Lockdown, have spent hundreds with them. Liked their products and ethos- inclusive and female led.

Yesterday I went on their website, can definitely say it's my fault that I clicked on their NSFW collection, but I didn't expect what I found. Patches saying ' chke me' and 'cMSL*t'. Maybe I'm just a pearl clutching prude but I found these really offensive and not what I expect from a company with their ethos. I've put a pic below.

I posted in their Facebook group which I'm on highlighting that I thought this was a misjudgement on their part, that these were very misogynistic, and fed into a culture of violence against women which claims the life of a woman or girl every 11 minutes.

They declined my post and sent me a reply which I'll attach- I'm kink shaming apparently.

I find this really reprehensible and never want to spend a penny with them again!

I never thought I was prudish, whatever adults do between themselves is up to them, but I don't really want to buy from a clothing provider who is promoting this- aibu!?

Having now been made aware, I will NOT be shopping from Snag anymore. Thank you

I think you’re very clearly and deliberately missing the point that I think they promote very obese women as being ‘normal’. I don’t think that’s a great thing to do and I don’t think-having been morbidly obese myself not so long ago-that being that size is healthy. You know you’re (not you personally as I do not know you) far more at risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart issues etc. God knows why I’m even writing this when it’s their policy of promoting this and saying it’s normal. Of course it’s not.

What do you even mean “promoting as normal”? Because they’ve…. Shown lots of fat bodies?!

Snag appeals to fat women. Its going to show fat models.

you really don’t have a point at all.

TwinFireSigns · 17/01/2024 20:35

Bibbidybobbidyroo · 17/01/2024 18:34

Tbh probably not? I’m guessing mumsnet reading, majority middle aged women are not their target audience.

Mumsnet is a massive site and you'd think pregnant, post-partum and menopausal women would be exactly the market for tights in a range of sizes so I find this a bit surprising. I've been buying Snags for years. Obviously not anymore!

TwinFireSigns · 17/01/2024 20:37

Shizzlestix · 17/01/2024 20:08

At what point did I say that?! They use morbidly obese models and promote this size as ‘normal’. Imo, completely the wrong message. Very poor practice.

I hate this argument. Fat women are normal, using photos of them doesn't 'promote' obesity and this is not the subject at hand - we're talking about what they actually ARE promoting which is violence against women.

What is NSFW, pls? Would google but don't to have to delete my history!

All2Well · 17/01/2024 20:46

@CantFindTheBeat Not Safe For Work (ie you'd be embarassed if your boss saw it over your shoulder)

Nor Safe For Work

basically don’t open in public lol

PTSDBarbiegirl · 17/01/2024 20:48

Plenty of space for penis and testicles at the front of their tights. I suspect a capture is evident. Snag can feck off.

There are other websites who target those sorts of buyer (like Better)

they know their target audience and it’s not us. That’s ok.

CantFindTheBeat · 17/01/2024 20:50

@All2Well @Bibbidybobbidyroo - thank you!

To be honest, I wouldn't have known that meant stuff like 'choke me'. I'd have thought crotchless tights 🙈

Doublethecookies · 17/01/2024 20:52

I don't really understand what you expected from going on their NSFW site?
You can get suspenders and stockings on their normal page...
The NSFW area is clearly for fetish wear etc... If you aren't into that that's perfectly valid but I think you are being deeply unreasonable to demand it not exist. Clearly some people want to buy that stuff.

ethelredonagoodday · 17/01/2024 20:52

WotNoUserName · 17/01/2024 17:36

Even grosser than I thought they were. I'm sure we'll all be told we're middle aged prude though 🙄 I'd rather be that than condone misogyny and violence against women.

Remember, we must be kind! (Unless of course you're talking about women over 30... 🙄🤣)

Flickersy · 17/01/2024 20:53

Why can't men wear tights? You don't need to be a woman to wear them. There seems to be some outrage on here that there's a shop catering for men's tights and I'm not really clear why.

Had no idea about this NSFW site. Can't say it appeals but I'm not outraged by it.

NanaRant · 17/01/2024 20:55

My goodness, thank you for alerting us OP. I have messaged my daughter, family and staff to say steer clear.

Men can wear tights.

Men have worn tights for years for running, under clothes for warmth, etc.

snag's men in their imagery wear tights for sexual gratification and are photographed provocatively in them,

Fine for them to do that, but most women just wanting to buy tights for practical or fashion purposes don't usually want to have to wade through cocks and balls to find them.

Doublethecookies · 17/01/2024 20:56

@Flickersy honestly I think some people just live to be outraged...
you wouldn't walk into a fetishwear store and then demand it be closed down because it offends you.. I mean wtf?
whyis it any different on the Internet? Go to a site that clearly says NSFW and sells sexualised clothing and then get offended by what you saw. Ridiculous.

You absolutely don’t have to wade through anything - it’s 99% women models.

Snag have changed direction then - originally they were targeting women like me (in my 30s, plus size, wanted colourful tights). I felt like they were in the Lindy Bop kind of category, inclusive and alternative and a bit offbeat.

CantFindTheBeat · 17/01/2024 20:58

I don't think people are moaning about the clothing, are they?

More about the morals of a company that originally purported to be women-centric, now promoting men in women's spaces, and logos and badges that beseech 'choke me'.

It's not that it's sexual content everyone is objecting to, it's the normalisation of sexual violence and on a product designed to be attached to everyday clothing and bags.

You have zero proof for the first half of that sentence.

As to the second part, aren't most of snags photos pretty provocative (male and female)

most women just wanting to buy tights for practical or fashion purposes don't usually want to have to wade through cocks and balls to find them

It's a good job they're not wading through anything by looking at a unisex website then isn't it. Can't say I've ever found myself ankle deep in penis from looking at tights but your mileage may vary.

What does dressing like a woman mean?

Presumably I'm "dressed like a man" right now as I'm in tracksuit bottoms and my husband's hoodie.
If a man wants to wear rights, why not? To this day, Tim Curry in fishnets in Rocky Horror is one of the most wondrous sights I've ever seen.

Indeed. All clothes are for all people- to buy into the idea that tights (or any clothing)=only for women just reinforces the tra gender essentialism ideology

ie, that there are clothes/activitys/toys etc that are assigned to one gender only, therefore if you like those things you must be that gender.

It’s particularly important in terms of all the ‘trans children’ we have now- just children who like what they like, but adults tell them that means they must be a boy/girl.

I'm with you OP. Their tights could be sold for a tenner and made from pure spun gold and encrusted with diamonds and I'd still not buy from this revolting company

Reminds me of the time they used some overweight bearded bloke to coquettishly gaze at the camera in a pair of their tights. Literally gross.

They're more interested in not offending blokes. That's the long and short of it

their social media platforms are run by a man, they aren't marketed solely towards women

Doublethecookies · 17/01/2024 21:02

@Skeletonythings

It's fetishwear. It's clearly not promoted as 'everyday' as it's on a separate website clearly labelled NSFW
It's not like they are trying to sell it to kids.. or even to adults just wanting tights. It's a completey separate website that's labelled
