Farting on trains

It seems to happen quite frequently these days, and 99% of the time it's men. It's disgusting, I know sometimes it's not deliberate but leaving a stench like that for other people is vile, and you can't always open windows on trains, like the Avanti one I'm currently on.
If it's not that, it's people chewing their nails and then wiping it on whatever they find, picking their nose, generally disgusting habits to do on a packed train. Again the vast majority are men.

I just move seats where possible, or stand if I have to.

How do you know that it's men

I can see the men nose picking etc. and usually when there have suddenly been horrid smells, I'm sitting next to or around a bunch of men

Of course it's largely men, all antisocial behaviour is. They feel entitled to behave like that.

Commuting this time of year was always grim……. The hangover farts from the previous nights beer and kebabs was so utterly rancid.

Same with women clipping or filing their nails (especially toe nails) and applying generous amounts of perfume. i do prefer fart over perfume though - at least its possible that the person couldn’t help it.

I mean, people can't really help farting now and again. And FWIW, it's not only men's farts that stink.

Chewing nails, picking noses etc is extremely disgusting. Especially wiping their fingers after doing said action. As for farting, I think you’re being U with that because what do you want people to do? It doesn’t stop it smelling fucking awful though

I once had a man stand up to leave the train whilst I was still seated and he literally farted in my face. Disgusting.

I mean, it’s not great to sit there stiffing other peoples farts, but it’s just a bodily function. I don’t get the drama about it, but maybe years working in health care has made me less sensitive. it would make my job very difficult if I was horrified by every fart.

If you’re in public, you hold your fart in till you get somewhere away from other people.

@sprigatito try a london commuter train. i yet gave to see a guy taking off his shoes, clipping and filing toenails and applying polish. seen it frequently in women, especially in summer.

I let a right one go at work today (couldn't help it, slipped out 😭) then again about 10 mins later, all the while praying no one came near me 😁

Yeah fair enough it can't always be helped I guess, the other things can, I'm just moaning as like many I'm sick of overpriced trains which are usually delayed/cancelled/not guaranteed a seat for an hour journey and then that just tops it off

Your thread title did make me chuckle but yes people are pretty grim.
I suppose people can't help having smelly farts but I'd object to loud ones.
I can't bear the people that do the horrible loud sniff that snags up all the snot into the back of the throat.
And I have recent seen photos in Twitter of people on trains with bare feet! Disgusting!
This is why I drive everywhere.

Yes, generally speaking everything is the fault of those vile creatures.

One of the biggest obstacles to getting more people to use public transport is the way a proportion of people behave on it, and this is just one example.

See also people with poor personal hygiene or noisy ones on a phone call.

And if you’re on a long train journey and literally can’t keep holding it because your belly’s hurting. What then? Sometimes you have to let it out soz
