Mary Earps’ dress..

Worthy winner of the sports award, but her dress? No doubt high fashion but I thought it looked very unattractive and somewhat inappropriate. I’m aware see through fabrics etc are in vogue, but it looked to me like lingerie with a skirt falling down, so a sort of corset/thong affair.

I don’t think it’s the worst dress in the world but it looks to me like something I’d have done when I was younger either by mistake or on purpose, so deliberately showing a lace bodysuit around the bottom half area.

Daisies12 · 20/12/2023 08:20

I just felt sorry when she was walking up, it looked so uncomfortable and she could barely walk!

MarathonBarbie · 20/12/2023 08:21

Probably not what I’d pick (oh to have the figure for it) but that’s not relevant. Presumably she liked it and wanted to wear it so entirely her choice and nobody else’s business really.

How many times have you commented on the outfits of male winners?

There is already a thread about this

vivideye · 20/12/2023 08:22

Ffs. You’re embarrassing yourselves.

thebear1 · 20/12/2023 08:22

How horrible to have done something amazing and the focus to be on your clothes.

Sorry, I did look but nothing came up on my first page. Should have done a search.

Well I might if I saw one dressed inappropriately.

How many times have you commented on the outfits of male winners?

Exactly.

Actually I didn't even notice what she was wearing and didn't know there was apparently some sort of controversy until I read about it later.

Amana · 20/12/2023 08:25

Young, fit, great body.

High fashion.

The cameras angle/screen cut the dress off and didn’t help the illusion that the dress had slipped revealing her underwear.

Perhaps her choices are to show that female footballers can choose to be feminine too. Address stereotypes.

Strong, super fit, resilient, successful women. The dress is not important.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 20/12/2023 08:25

Just seen she’s 30. Honestly with her figure and I know other younger women who’d wear similar dresses then why on earth shouldn’t she wear it?

AndThatWasNY · 20/12/2023 08:26

The search isn't the issue. The issue is that you go straight for the usual female bollocks of bashing her rather than being delighted that she won. Clothes aren't that important but winning a contest that is 9.times out of ten won by men is. I'm embarrassed of you that something as trivial as a dress is your focus.

ElaineMBenes · 20/12/2023 08:26

Well I might if I saw one dressed inappropriately.

Yeah, yeah of course you would? 🙄 and define inappropriate..... just because you wouldn't wear it doesn't make it inappropriate.

This is just another sexist, misogynistic thread and you should be embarrassed having started it.

BIossomtoes · 20/12/2023 08:26

What dress? She wasn’t wearing one.

shearwater2 · 20/12/2023 08:27

Here we go again 🙄

Wellhellooooodear · 20/12/2023 08:27

I actually think it's not a bad message for girls. You can be a successful sportswoman but still glam up if the mood takes you and wear what the hell you like. Good for her.

Muchof · 20/12/2023 08:28

ElaineMBenes · 20/12/2023 08:21

I probably wouldn’t comment on a plain navy suit but I would notice and might even comment on an unusual outfit whether it was on a man or a woman.

Mindymomo · 20/12/2023 08:29

She looks great, she’s a 30 year old woman with a fantastic figure, who spends probably 90% of her time in sports wear. The top of her dress would have a lining, so not see through.

Singsonggsu · 20/12/2023 08:30

One of our greatest footballers of all time and you’re being negative about her bloody dress?! Have a read of her career history and see if you should be focusing on something else. Women being publicly horrible about other women especially their outfits is just not ok!

WillimNot · 20/12/2023 08:30

"Dressed inappropriately"?

She's a gorgeous young woman who has a lovely figure wearing something she clearly liked and looking stunning in it.

I hate this whole "inappropriate" thing, if she had of turned up with a bra and knickers on or belts on her boobs like Jodie Marsh then OK, that could be construed as inappropriate.

But actually, in essence and as a female led site, we should be applauding her win, as the first goalie to win the SPOTY, and at a time when morons like Joey Barton are voicing vile and sexist crap about women in football.

Mary also recently put pressure on Nike when they failed to release her shirt with others for sale to fans, she is a great role model for our young females that male dominated sports can be played by women and they can also be feminine as well, not the usual trope of them being "butch"

Give your head a wobble!

TheFairyCaravan · 20/12/2023 08:31

She must be feeling really great this morning. Thousands of men are saying she only won to tick a box and thousands of women are criticising what she wore. Why not just be happy for her and congratulate her?

Did you read my post? ‘Worthy winner?..’
i’m not sure what ‘I’m embarrassed of you’ means.
I think she made a poor choice.

Omg who cares what she wore. Look at her achievements!! And she seems bloody nice as well. Great woman, well-deserved winner.

Jeez.

Blarn · 20/12/2023 08:32

She looked fabulous and happy.
