To sneak McD's into the cinema

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

Why don’t you just eat it there before you go to the cinema?

WhoYouGonnaCallStressbuster · 09/12/2023 16:04

People go to my local with maccies all the time, I think it’s fine. Although I’m always jealous!

Times a bit stretched so we can only just get to the cinema and food as the film starts.

It's not illegal to take your own food into the cinema

Dinoboymama · 09/12/2023 16:05

Most cinemas allow food in as long as it's not hot food. Id take popcorn, snacks from a shop in and have the McDonald's before or after that way your not breaking any rules or trying to hide it.

Gazelda · 09/12/2023 16:05

I would notice the smell. And its a smell I don't like.
I notice the smell of hotdogs and nachos though, so I suppose there's no reason why anyone would take offence.
But wouldn't it be messy to eat? Dropped fries, lettuce escaping, dip dripping?

catotangent · 09/12/2023 16:06

McDonald's 🤢. The smell must have been awful for the other people

HAF1119 · 09/12/2023 16:06

I would 🤷‍♀️

stayathomer · 09/12/2023 16:07

In Ireland most cinemas say you can only bring food bought there and the smell of McDonald’s!!! I love it but wouldn’t wish it on anyone!!!

crumpet · 09/12/2023 16:08

I wouldn’t take something strongly smelling into the cinema, no.

ilovesooty · 09/12/2023 16:08

If they're going to be hungry who can't you make them a sandwich of something that doesn't smell?

WashItTomorrow · 09/12/2023 16:08

No way. I think that’s awful. I’ve never heard of people eating hot food at the cinema.

Not even cinema nachos and hot dogs?

Exactly this.
I'd prefer people smoking next to me than having to put up with the smell of McD's ( or hot dogs, or popcorn, come to that). In fact if I could find a cinema which banned all food I'd guarantee them my business.

00100001 · 09/12/2023 16:11

Ugh, god no.

Get him a snack and have maccies afterwards

Hibernatalie · 09/12/2023 16:11

I've done this before and been in the cinema many times when others have done it. Totally fine.

FizzyLaser · 09/12/2023 16:11

Gross.

Please don’t

Sahara123 · 09/12/2023 16:12

I really, really hate the smell of food in a cinema, please don’t 🤢

Because it's a treat tea night in fairness.

No, it smells too much and is very obvious. Nachos don’t really smell and a hotdog might a little bit but nowhere near as much as a McDonald’s! My car stinks for days after I’ve been to a drive thru McDonalds.

BotterMon · 09/12/2023 16:15

Hate that people now eat in cinemas and no longer go. The smells, the constant rustling, slurping through straws, the crunching of popcorn and so on.

Personally find it disgusting but the ticket prices alone don't enable cinemas to survive financially unfortunately

So, no - take an odour free sandwich or snacks if your child can't possibly survive 90 minutes without food.

Not much of a treat for the people having to put up with the stink. But, hey, they don’t matter, just you and your kid matter.

sunglassesonthetable · 09/12/2023 16:16

Sounds fine to me. I always take my own snacks into the cinema.

Smell wise they sell hot dogs and all the rest anyways. I think people are being a bit precious.

Youthinkyoureuniqueyourejustastatistic · 09/12/2023 16:16

I would for the kids. Especially because they serve other hot food. And I wouldn’t eat something hot from the cinema.

OhpoorMe · 09/12/2023 16:16

God this thread. How do people cope in life.

It's fine, it's a happy meal not a fistful of joints and a smoked fish.
