To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

It's not illegal to take your own food into the cinema

Not illegal but that doesn't mean it isn't against their rules.

It's not illegal to bring your own alcohol to a pub either or to bring your own food into a restaurant 😂

My local cinema lets you bring your own food, one of the others closest to me doesn't. Other ones near me allow you to bring your own snacks but not hot food or drinks, presumably the hot drinks is a safety issue but I would say the hot foods are banned because of the smell.

sunglassesonthetable · 09/12/2023 16:48

Perhaps just eat something healthy instead. Or if you care so little about your DCs diet, do so before the film.

Alert🚨Alert 🚨 Alert 🚨 Peak MN🤦‍♀️

😂

This thread is hilarious. If people don't enjoy the noise of people eating / rustling wrappers, or the smells of fast food such as hot dogs and burgers, then I genuinely don't think the cinema is the place for them. Probably best to stay home in the quiet without any offensive noises or smells and just watch a film by yourself. 🤷‍♀️

On the other hand it always amazes me why people need to eat in the cinema. Have something to eat before you go.
Youve gone to see the film not to eat.

Times a bit stretched so we can only just get to the cinema and food as the film starts.

But films don’t actually start until a good 20 minutes after the listed start time, because of all the ads and trailers. Which is enough time to buy and eat a McDonald’s. Then you don’t have to inflict the noise and smell on other viewers, or the mess on the staff that’ll have to clear up spoiled sauce, dropped fries and lettuce as well as deal with the abandoned greasy packaging.

No ta. Me and the other millions who like a snack will continue as we do. Just fine.

No, plenty of people go to see the film AND to eat, because that's part of the experience for them.
No way would I sit through a movie in the cinema without eating 😅

Definitelynotem · 09/12/2023 16:51

Mcdonalds does stink a lot more than hot dogs or nachos. I’ve sat next to someone eating it before and I found it totally offputting and gross, there’s a difference between hot dogs that are warm and something that’s just been fried and greasy.

Dibblydoodahdah · 09/12/2023 16:51

WashItTomorrow · 09/12/2023 16:08

No way. I think that’s awful. I’ve never heard of people eating hot food at the cinema.

So you’ve never been to an Everyman then. They serve hot food to your seat, well to your sofa actually!

whatonearthisgoingonn · 09/12/2023 16:52

Yeah OP give them a massive salad. That'll be a great Saturday night treat for them.

😂😂😂

Museum10662 · 09/12/2023 16:52

from when ive had mc donalds its not really smelly , although aparently there is night vision cctv, but that said its no different than eg food at the movies etc

Megifer · 09/12/2023 16:40

No one will complain op. Its only on MN that McDonalds makes people retch/faint/actually die.

If it's not packed sit out of the way while you eat if it makes you feel a bit better.

Enjoy your evening!! ☺️

This is my first time on a “can’t bear the smell of Maccie D” thread, enjoying it so far. Grin

Either eat before or after. I don't understand why people need to shovel food in their mouths to be able to watch a film. For goodness sake. You can go without eating for the few hours you're in there.

Nope, I've gone to do both, actually. Simultaneously. Hope that helps.

Yeah course. But I don't CHOOSE to.

It's all very puritanical isn't it.

rookiemere · 09/12/2023 16:55

I don't really understand why you and the DCs can't just eat the McDonalds at McDonalds before the movie.

Ginandjuice57884 · 09/12/2023 16:55

I've never been to a film where people are eating the overpriced and rancid hotdogs/nachos in the actual cinema. So yeah, unreasonable. It would stink. Just eat it before since it's right next door.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 09/12/2023 16:55

Are people actually this precious in real life or just on mumsnet? Get a grip it's a happy meal!

Megifer · 09/12/2023 16:56

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 09/12/2023 16:42

Guess depends on the cinema and likeliness of getting caught. Cineworld know its a no for hot food except their own so guess if notice on way in then you have to eat it before? Assume they don't take it away..

Is it? 😬 not any Cineworld I've been in. Breezed past the workers many a time with a Burger King bag, and our own sweets.

sunglassesonthetable · 09/12/2023 16:56

A little Happy Meal in a box.

Faints.

Picturing being "taken down" and having food "removed". You know by one of those bored teenage ticket bods.

maudeskarenina · 09/12/2023 16:58

I guess in a pinch for your kids its ok, I kind of hate when people bring hot food into the cinema as it does stink no matter what other people say but needs must I guess. Ideally try and eat it prior to the film starting so it doesn't disturb other people too much.

Adults doing this at the cinema though are grim.

Better warn some posters not to go to an EveryMan Cinema.

They bring you food , actual meals on a tray.
It's grand.

That's why me and DH will never go to an Everyman cinema. Hate people eating in cinemas and theatres.

Years ago we used to go the NFT on the South Bank at least twice a week and no food or drink was allowed. It was great.
