To sneak McD's into the cinema

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

This is why I never go to the cinema anymore.

Sounds fine to me. I always take my own snacks into the cinema.

Smell wise they sell hot dogs and all the rest anyways. I think people are being a bit precious.

I do feel like people are acting like I've asked if I can drop my pants and relieve myself in the aisle.

Very unreasonable. I've been in a cinema where people have brought in McDonald's and it stinks. I don't why it's worse than the hotdogs, but it really was.

TomatoSandwiches · 09/12/2023 16:18

McDonalds smells awful though 😕

TurkeyTrotToXmas · 09/12/2023 16:18

People have been sneaking food into cinemas since they've been in existence. Bring it, just take your rubbish out afterwards!

It's not illegal to take your own food into the cinema

It's not illegal to take a hooter in and hoot it at random intervals either...

Just because it's not illegal doesn't mean you should do it.

sunglassesonthetable · 09/12/2023 16:19

It's a single Happy Meal not the contents of a MacDonalds Kitchen trucked in.

Hate that people now eat in cinemas and no longer go. The smells, the constant rustling, slurping through straws, the crunching of popcorn and so on.

Personally find it disgusting but the ticket prices alone don't enable cinemas to survive financially unfortunately

So, no - take an odour free sandwich or snacks if your child can't possibly survive 90 minutes without food.

I won't go either, unless it's at strange times of day because I hate having to smell other people's food and hear them eating and drinking.

Difference between a packet of minstrels and a burger and chips!!

Ponoka7 · 09/12/2023 16:20

People do this all of the time. I don't think that many people in RL are as sensitive as most of the posters on here, whose skin dries out if they shower every day and who gag at air fresheners 🙄

Yeah, popcorn, sweets, a sandwich if you really must.

TheCadoganArms · 09/12/2023 16:21

I would be annoyed if someone at the cinema sat next to me and then proceeded to tuck into a McDonald's. The smell alone is inconsiderate before we get to the rustle of bags and slurping of drinks.

greencheetah · 09/12/2023 16:21

I had no idea people ate hot food in cinemas! Definitely not allowed in my local independent.

I would definitely complain if someone started eating a McDonalds sitting next to me.

kitsuneghost · 09/12/2023 16:21

I would be annoyed by the smell
McDonald's is revolting (as are nachos and hotdogs)
But so long as its not busy I can sit as far away from the nachos as I like.

SirenSays · 09/12/2023 16:22

I wouldnt, it will stink and go cold so fast.
I never see anyone ordering hotdogs or nachos at the cinema. Everyone has a bag of sweets, popcorn or the extortionate pick & mix.

Because it's a treat tea night in fairness.

Take them for tea afterwards then. I'm sure they won't starve if they wait.

People generally sneak a bag of popcorn or M&Ms into the cinema, very rare to see hot fast food.

I have a very hangry four year old.

For some reason MacDonalds has a very distinct aroma which I find unpleasant - it lingers. If someone has it on the bus - not even eating but still in the bag it stinks the bus out. You don't even have to see the bag to know it's MacDs that you can smell!

DidiAskYouThough · 09/12/2023 16:23

If the cinema is next to a McDonalds they probably have people trying to bring McFood in all the time, and will have signs up about it.

It does smell awful and the rustling will annoy people.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/12/2023 16:24

WashItTomorrow · 09/12/2023 16:08

No way. I think that’s awful. I’ve never heard of people eating hot food at the cinema.

Nachos, Hot dogs, waffle fries, pizza all sold at ours. The other one does proper burger meals delivered to you.

Megifer · 09/12/2023 16:24

We do it all the time 😃 go for it! No different at all to eating the hot dog/nachos they do.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/12/2023 16:25

Sahara123 · 09/12/2023 16:12

I really, really hate the smell of food in a cinema, please don’t 🤢

But it's fine if she goes in and buys them all hotdogs bad nachos? What's the difference?

sunglassesonthetable · 09/12/2023 16:26

lI would definitely complain if someone started eating a McDonalds sitting next to me.

What during the film?

So you go out, 'complain' , get someone in, and have a whole 'hushed' back and forth, whilst the movie was going on 😩
over a Child with a Happy Meal.

Dear God. MN is over the top. 🤣

Ortila · 09/12/2023 16:26

DelphiniumBlue · 09/12/2023 16:10

Exactly this.
I'd prefer people smoking next to me than having to put up with the smell of McD's ( or hot dogs, or popcorn, come to that). In fact if I could find a cinema which banned all food I'd guarantee them my business.

Barbican cinema used to have this ban, years ago. Staff would tell people off for eating. 😄

No idea if they still do or if they've now fallen.

Anyway it's fine in cinemas that allow food OP which most of them do including hot food - no different from eating a hot dog or those weird nuclear waste nachos, and a lot cheaper.
