Seems most people have done theirs already, we are planning to do it this Sunday.

Tree goes up the morning of the 24th

@GrumpyPanda i'm impressed. There's so much to do on Christmas Eve that I couldn't be bothered with putting the tree up as well. Just out of curiosity, where do the presents go if the tree isn't up yet? 😃

Fairylightfurore · 01/12/2023 07:51

Mine won't go up until the 22nd as our living room is also my office. I will do other deccs and fairy lights though.....

noname846 · 01/12/2023 07:52

I don't think most people have put theirs up already, at least from what I can see walking around the streets! I expect a lot will go up this weekend, though.

Mine will go up mid- December, as usual.

meatbaseddessert · 01/12/2023 07:53

Dear Gawd NO! It's just 1st December. It is not fucking Xmas!

NZ here and I haven't seen a single one yet.

Thank fuck. Low key Xmas was quite a major reason I moved here.

Ferriswheels · 01/12/2023 07:53

No, it's a real tree and stays up until Jan 6th (or often longer) so we don't put it up too soon.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 01/12/2023 07:56

A few people have round here but not loads. I’d never put a tree up before December, it just feels weird. And I also like to keep it across new year, so it’d be dead as a dodo by then if it had been up since November!

I’m kind of in two minds about it really. On one hand I dislike it because it I think a lot of it’s down to the commercial push to stretch every sales occasion to the limit, and there’s nothing fricking worse than seeing Christmas tat appearing in the shops at the end of the summer holidays.

But on the other hand it’s nice to see houses lit up and decorated when the weather’s gloomy and the nights are dark. Most European countries this far north have some tradition of putting candles in their windows or lights in the trees during the winter, but here everything’s just dead and grey for months with no respite.

I’ve actually started to ignore twelfth night for that reason - I feel a lot cosier and happier in the first few weeks of January when the house has a few lights and a bit of twinkle.

Mothership4two · 01/12/2023 07:56

No, don't we don't get one until mid December, so probably around 15-16th

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 01/12/2023 07:58

Wallingtonhall · 01/12/2023 06:37

No and I won’t until at least 15 December. I’m definitely old school. Feels too early now and I can’t live with it for that long.

I agree. When did this putting up trees so early start? I saw one as I passed a house a couple of weeks ago! I hate Christmas being thrust down my throat early. I suppose the fact that most people seem to have artificial trees might have something to do with it.

RosesAndHellebores · 01/12/2023 07:59

I don't mind putting the Christmas mats down this weekend and the wreath can go on the door next weekend.

We will probably start lighting Christmas tea lights next weekend too.

NZ here too - two of my friends are putting theirs up now, and I saw one in a house a couple of weeks ago. An Australian friend went full on decorating a couple of weeks ago too. Madness!!!

Thank goodness we don't do the Christmas jumpers/pjs here (although I know some people who would be right into it if they knew it was a thing!)

MrsMarzetti · 01/12/2023 08:03

December the 15th at the earliest. Will put the lights around the window next weekend and put out a few other decorations too.

Goneforaride · 01/12/2023 08:04

Absolutely not. It's far too early. Ours will go up the weekend before and come down around the 3/4 January. (But then I'm the biggest grinch on the planet and just detest Christmas and everything about it, so the less time I have to look at fairy lights and baubles the better!!).

Threewheeler1 · 01/12/2023 08:05

gohomeroger1 · 01/12/2023 06:35

Yep we are doing it tomorrow. Though DH is off today so is going into the loft to get it all down

Snap.
I'm not going in our loft for any amount of money, there's a huge web right near the door 😬
Honestly, I'm not feeling very Christmassy yet. Maybe that's because I haven't put the tree up...
Feel like it's crept up on me this year (I say that every year!), haven't even thought about it yet. Anyone else feel like they've only just put the tree away from last year? 🤔

JudgeJ · 01/12/2023 08:07

Swearwolf · 01/12/2023 06:36

I'm doing mine the weekend before Christmas (not the 20th, the 14th). I like it up until after New year and it goes all crispy and brown if I put it up too soon.

Snap, mine's in a bucket of water in the garden but won't go up until the 14th, when we used to buy an expensive one it often looked as fresh on 12th night as it had when we put it up.

Whinge · 01/12/2023 08:08

Not quite, but I do feel like November has flown by. It feels like we only just celebrated Halloween and now it's December 😆

SunnieShine · 01/12/2023 08:08

My tree goes up on Sunday, I'm looking forward to it.🎄

JudgeJ · 01/12/2023 08:08

I've just fished out the Advent pyramid so it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

ZekeZeke · 01/12/2023 08:11

We are the only house on our block with no tree/lights up.
I will put mine up as normal on 15th, no earlier.

Bobsboob · 01/12/2023 08:14

Doing ours today!

TeenDivided · 01/12/2023 08:16

Our tree won't go up until around the end of term, so week beginning 18th December probably.

IsItOverYetAndCanIComeOutNow · 01/12/2023 08:17

Not a chance but that’s mainly because I really dislike Christmas and would happily bugger off to somewhere far flung but selfish siblings and elderly parents who would be alone and sad if I didn’t turn up mean I have to stay in the UK.

I exhale loudly on the 27th and it’s all over!

gingercat02 · 01/12/2023 08:19

Not for another couple of weeks. We get a real tree, so if you go too early, it's a twig by Christmas. We had an artificial one when DS was little, but he's happy to wait now

starfishmummy · 01/12/2023 08:19

No way. Weekend before Xmas and kf that means Xmas eve, it's Xmas eve.

Although unusually for us, I habe put some other decorations up.

2chocolateoranges · 01/12/2023 08:21

Nope!

we normally put ours up around the 6th December but after a tough year we have decided on some winter sun in Tenerife and won’t be back until the 12th so it’ll probably go up about the 15th this year.

Stressedafff · 01/12/2023 08:22

I put mine up about 2 weeks ago 🫣
The SAD was starting to rear its ugly head and it makes me feel better, tree, window lights and garland. Love seeing the lights
