Seems most people have done theirs already, we are planning to do it this Sunday.

Eurgh no not yet. Kids asked this morning when we're doing it. All the neighbours seem to have put all their decorations up earlier this year! I just CBA.

The kids get bored, DH gets in a mood with the lights because they're all tangled and I end up doing the whole bloody lot only to have to reverse the process a few weeks later. Humbug!

My mum said she's not bothering this year as they've got a new puppy which is a good excuse. Humph.

AngeloMysterioso · 01/12/2023 13:04

One of my DC has a birthday next weekend, we never do it before then.

ShazzaF · 01/12/2023 13:13

Ours will go up likely around the twentieth and will stay up until twelfth night.

Happily vulgar and common here! Ours went up yesterday as I wanted to finish work on Friday with the house feeling all festive and so we can relax and enjoy it over the weekend. However the Christmas bedding and towels have yet to make an appearance, will probably get those out in a couple of weeks.

You are my kind of person! Grin I'm desperate to get ours up and outside decorated, and there they will stay until 12th night, We were so sad when everything came down in January so the longer they're up, the better.

This is the complete opposite to how I used to be, I was very haughty about it all. I do think the pandemic changed everything, and climate change. I dread long hot days to come so want to savour every single day of this time, and enjoying the tree and lights is part of that

Oooh mines a big fake tree too. Threads like this make me want to buy a big blow up Santa to put in my front garden in November.

😆😆😆The same!

MaryShelley1818 · 01/12/2023 13:50

Ours is being delivered on the 11th/12th December so will be up sometime that week.

DJSteves · 01/12/2023 14:27

I'm going back to the UK for Christmas on the 21st so it will be the old pop up with lights and baubles when I get home. I'm in the Middle East at the moment so decorations are hard but not impossible to find. Then I am at home in the UK a 7ft extravaganza goes up.

Fieldofbrokenpromises · 01/12/2023 14:41

Not yet

Beezknees · 01/12/2023 14:46

Doing it tomorrow. Always the first Saturday in December for me.

Hotcuppatea · 01/12/2023 16:47

Always about one week from Christmas. Literally cannot be bothered to have it up before then.

Papayahd · 01/12/2023 16:49

I’m going to be putting mine up later tonight

Haha! My late mother would be telling me I’m vulgar and common to even be thinking about Christmas decor on the first of December!
To be fair though, anything she didn’t like or approve of she called common. I’m late 60’s but still hear her disapproving voice in my head regularly. Goodness knows what she would be thinking about my asda shop today
Asda - common and vulgar
Shop bought mince pies - common and lazy
Shop bought Cadbury Yule log - lazy
Turkey crown - wasteful and extravagant
Pak Choi - foreign muck
Fruit bread - ridiculous
Beefburgers - common
and so on

fingerguns · 01/12/2023 17:00

Ordinarily I'd put mine up around 12th/13th December, but we're going to do it earlier this year as we're travelling to stay with parents for the week proceeding Christmas and I'd like a couple of weeks of enjoying my tree before we head off.

I always have a real tree so if you put it up too early it's normally dried out and practically dead by Christmas!

Sagedragon · 01/12/2023 17:06

Not yet, we always put it up 1st Sunday of December,so it's going up this weekend.

Mothership4two · 01/12/2023 17:43

Excerpt from The Third QI Book of General Ignorance (for those arguing about the correct days to start/finish):

Until the 17th century ‘Christmas’ lasted almost three months, from the Feast of St Martin on 11 November to Candlemas on 2 February

Our goes up somewhere around the 19th and comes down on 2nd January- we started this when the children were young to stop them asking endlessly when is Christmas (thanks TV) but have continued now they are adults with homes of their own. I like the tree but not for a whole month - it gets boring!

Very sensible! I often wonder how parents explain it to small children when "Christmas" seems to start earlier every year. Our town's Christmas parade is today, but a city here held theirs last weekend!!!! When I was a kid our small town held theirs on Christmas Eve, and it was so exciting as we knew it was almost time - and I think they still do that. Seeing Santa everywhere from early December seems ridiculous to me.

Meowandthen · 01/12/2023 19:47

Far too early for me. I am sure that years ago people never put trees up this early.

Ours normally goes up around 20th but will be a few days earlier this year as I have a business trip the week before Christmas and won’t be back until midnight on 22nd.

Seems daft to me to have Christmas events in November.

You must be in KSA as they are everywhere in the rest of the ME/GCC.

PumpkinPie2016 · 01/12/2023 19:54

Not yet - DS birthday is end of November so I never do anything Christmas wise until after that as I don't want his birthday to be overshadowed by Christmas.

We might do it this weekend or maybe next.

Canonlythinkofthisone · 01/12/2023 19:58

Mines always been the week before Christmas. But I've just finished putting mine up with my DD. It's her "first" Christmas (last year she was months old) and it's been the most fun I'm not going to lie. 🤣🤣 I've become the person I used to shake my head at 🤦🏼‍♀️🤭

SnappersUnflatteringSelfie · 01/12/2023 20:13

I alternate between having a small tree and minimal decorations one year and the next year a big tree, lots of lights, decorations, etc so mine will go up next weekend.
I have in the past put it up on December the first though. I like coming home from work on the bus and counting christmas trees in windows like I did when I was young and on my way home from school 😀

CagneyAndLazy · 01/12/2023 20:31

I always assume those putting decorations up already are using Argos' Christmas TV advert starting to run as a signal to get the plastic out.

Butteredtoast55 · 01/12/2023 20:39

Usually I go for the weekend before Christmas but it'll be the 16th/17th this year, then it stays up until 12th night. I have got my advent candle and calendar out, and I'm probably going to put the outdoor lights out this weekend, although I won't turn them on just yet.

Circularargument · 01/12/2023 22:33

Not having one at all. May decorate a bit Christmas Eve.

Other people can do as they like. Why all the anxiety about what other people are doing, aren't we all individuals?
