Seems most people have done theirs already, we are planning to do it this Sunday.

We have a bunch of December birthdays so it won't be going up till about the 15th. None of our neighbours have got theirs up and none of my family.

ScarlettSunset · 01/12/2023 08:25

Probably do mine in a couple of weeks time. Need to clear a space for it first too! I don't like to put mine up too early else it doesn't feel very special to me when it's actually Christmas.
I had of course started on my advent calendar this morning though.

shivawn · 01/12/2023 08:25

Our house is different every year, depends what suits us. We put it up on 27th November this year because I was going in to hospital to be induced and wanted to have it done before we brought the new baby home.

Last year we didn't bother with a tree at all because our toddler was learning to walk and pulling up on everything so it would've been a disaster. Next year might be the same with this new baby.

Mothership4two · 01/12/2023 08:29

Same here @muddyford can never think about Christmas until those birthdays have been celebrated. There seems to be a lot less outdoor Christmas decorations around us this year, except for one fully decorated whole house that has been 'done' for two weeks now but they haven't yet switched the lights on - expect that will happen tonight.

FinnJuhl · 01/12/2023 08:31

I don't know anyone who has put theirs up yet! FIL is puritanical, so theirs goes up Christmas Eve. Our local church doesn't take theirs down until Candlemas, which I think is 40 days after Christmas.

CocoPlum · 01/12/2023 08:33

Nope. Mine goes up on the last day of term, I put it up with the lights on while kids are in school and we decorate it when they get home.

blobby10 · 01/12/2023 08:34

Nope - not up yet. Was pondering whether to this weekend but may wait until next weekend. 1st December is too early in my house. The decorations all come down well before NYE though as once Christmas Day is done they get boring very quickly Grin

NiceViper · 01/12/2023 08:35

Good heavens, no of course I haven't - it's only 1st Dec today.

I won't do mine until after a family birthday this month. But even allowing for that, it means the decorations will be up for nearly a month (no cutting short the Twelve Days of Christmas for us!!)

anythinginapinch · 01/12/2023 08:35

No, because I'm not a modernist. Xmas is 12 days starting at Xmas. Not 30 days starting on 1 Dec

Nanalisa60 · 01/12/2023 08:38

Yes will be going up today as it’s now December!! Will say up till 5th or 6th January, to decorate my house take a whole day quite a bit of effort so I like them up for the whole five week.

squirrelnutkin10 · 01/12/2023 08:40

I usually do mine Christmas eve, it gets very stale if the so called festive season goes on too long.
l like the festive feeling when all have finished work and Christmas is almost here then two weeks of Christmassy stuff then back to normal...
I don't do any Christmas shopping until the last fortnight either..but that can be a bit more challenging!

Vettrianofan · 01/12/2023 08:40

Me!

KimberleyClark · 01/12/2023 08:43

Our tradition is to get ours up the weekend of the Strictly final. Then we kick off Christmas by watching that with champagne. It’s when I feel it truly begins.

Bellyblueboy · 01/12/2023 08:46

I have a strict rule that Christmas decorations don’t go up until December. So this weekend.

November is just madness 😂😂

unchienandalucia · 01/12/2023 08:46

God no!! It's far far too early! We used to put ours up on Christmas Eve when I was younger. We do end of term which is 15th december this year.

luckylavender · 01/12/2023 08:47

Too soon for me

AmongstTheCosmos · 01/12/2023 09:01

We do ours in the first weekend of December. I absolutely love it! 🎄

CharityShopChic · 01/12/2023 09:07

Seems most people have done theirs already,

Not round here they haven't. Ours won't be going up until next weekend - 9th/10th - at the earliest.

DilemmaDelilah · 01/12/2023 09:08

Ours usually goes up a couple of weeks before Christmas as we have a real one. But if we have a tree this year it will be fake, so will go up any time from today. I will need to discuss with DH!

SallyWD · 01/12/2023 09:08

I still think it's really early but will do ours this weekend simply because the kids want to.
When I was young trees went up around 15th December.

frami · 01/12/2023 09:11

Mine will go up this weekend as my DD is home from Uni and wants to do the decorating. I want it up this week as we have visitors every weekend till Christmas Day so suits me. I have the (much harder) job of ̶b̶u̶l̶l̶y̶i̶n̶g̶ nagging DH into bringing down the stuff from the loft!

Before anyone comments on not getting them down myself am physically unable to climb ladder at the moment (bone fracture.)

MonsteraMama · 01/12/2023 09:22

Our fake one is going up tomorrow then the two real ones the weekend before Christmas. My birthday is ten days before Christmas so for years we'd put them all up the day after my birthday, but DD is excited this year and wants to put the fake one up asap so why not. She's had a challenging year and deserves to get into the festive spirit a bit early, happy for the faux-posh folk on here to think me common and vulgar!

Cattiwampus · 01/12/2023 09:22

Mine always gets decorated on 6th December.
I have a real tree, so it goes up a day or so before hand, to give it time to drink and relax before the decorating. The. It comes down around 2/3 of January.
I don’t start any visible signs of Christmas until 1st December.

itsraininginmyheart · 01/12/2023 09:23

I don't know anyone who HAS put it up yet!

Maray1967 · 01/12/2023 09:24

Iwantmyoldnameback · 01/12/2023 06:36

Certainly not. But mine stays up until 12th night I'm not risking bad luck.

Same here. Usually second weekend of December for us and up until 6th January for Epiphany.
