Seems most people have done theirs already, we are planning to do it this Sunday.

It’s nowhere near Christmas. We’ve got Advent to get through first.

GuitarGeorgina · 01/12/2023 07:25

Where I live it feels like a memo went out telling everyone to put theirs up last weekend but I didn’t get the memo.
I was delivering something to houses yesterday and 1/3 had their trees and lights up.

mine is going up on the 16th of December, the start of the school holidays for us.

Blinky21 · 01/12/2023 07:26

Us, we never decorate before December, we used to do it about 2 weeks before Christmas but because we get a real tree, have been forced to go earlier otherwise they sell out of good ones. I love Christmas but the fact it starts so early is crazy. I think it should be every other year to compensate 😀

mycatsanutter · 01/12/2023 07:27

@Blinky21 brilliant idea , get a petition started for that 😂

Loubilou23 · 01/12/2023 07:28

Dear god no! Mine will go up week before Christmas as it always does, maybe 17th or 18th

WaitingfortheTardis · 01/12/2023 07:31

Ours always goes up the first weekend in December. My Grandma always used to do the same, so did my parents so we've just followed that tradition. This year we've a funeral coming up in December so a little Christmas cheer will be most welcome.

SWSO · 01/12/2023 07:32

Probably up this weekend. For the Grandchildren. Otherwise it would be the week before.

Notfeelinghunkydory · 01/12/2023 07:32

I like to have mine up before the opening of advent calendars. I put it up on Sunday.

Ploctopus · 01/12/2023 07:33

Me! We always have a real tree, so can’t go too early or it will be a withered husk by Christmas. I’m enjoying seeing other people’s twinkling through their windows though.

SparklingSparkle · 01/12/2023 07:11

No because only common people put their trees up early or people with fake trees which is the same thing.

@SparklingSparkle I love being all common with my big fake tree 😁 All perfectly fluffed and full 😍

Malarandras · 01/12/2023 07:34

It’s only been December for just over 7 and a half hours, and most of those I was asleep. So definitely no tree up!! Most people in my street haven’t either.

Lovesacake · 01/12/2023 07:34

Happily vulgar and common here! Ours went up yesterday as I wanted to finish work on Friday with the house feeling all festive and so we can relax and enjoy it over the weekend. However the Christmas bedding and towels have yet to make an appearance, will probably get those out in a couple of weeks.

Ibizabar · 01/12/2023 07:37

Oooh mines a big fake tree too. Threads like this make me want to buy a big blow up Santa to put in my front garden in November.

Does anyone else think it’s a bit of a class thing?

I don’t think it’s a class thing to anyone except maybe a specific demographic of older folk. The one person I know of who is snobbish about the tree not going up before mid-December puts up her plastic multicolored LED-tipped tree “in the lounge behind the settee” only after the 12th.

Ours goes up the first Sunday of advent, as we did when I was a child. It’s a real one that we chop ourselves so that it stays fresh for longer. We celebrate St Nicholas Day on the 6th, so we want it up in time for that. We usually go skiing straight after Christmas, so we prefer to enjoy it in those weeks before Christmas when we’re around and in the festive spirit (vs over the traditional 12 days when we’re mostly away).

Surely everyone is allowed to just do what suits them.

Sallyh87 · 01/12/2023 07:39

I’m doing mine tomorrow! My DD is going to the Christmas tree farm with her dad and then we will put it up together. I love Christmas!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/12/2023 07:40

Ours (real) will go up on the 8th, rather earlier than usual, since Gdcs are coming to stay the weekend of the 9th/10th.

Teenangels · 01/12/2023 07:40

SparklingSparkle · 01/12/2023 07:11

Hahaha.
I will happily take common, fake tree in the main lounge going up tomorrow.

Real trees going up around the 15th one in the snug, one in the dining room.

Does this make me only half common!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/12/2023 07:40

Next weekend for us I think

It does depend when we have a quiet ish weekend! But I wouldn’t put it up in November.

SgtJuneAckland · 01/12/2023 07:41

Ours will go up this weekend. I would've thought the first weekend in December is a popular time to do it

Waitingfordoggo · 01/12/2023 07:42

Mine will be going up on the 19th.

GrumpyPanda · 01/12/2023 07:45

The key's in the name: it's a Christmas tree, not an advent tree. Advent wreath with four candles for now. Tree goes up the morning of the 24th, first lighting after sundown Christmas eve, and stays until Epiphany, so Jan 6.

Brumbies · 01/12/2023 07:46

Mine goes up 15th

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 01/12/2023 07:46

I wanted to book yesterday off so I could get everything ready, but I was too busy, so it'll be Sunday.

Ugh. I don't feel festive at all this year!

HippyChickMama · 01/12/2023 07:48

Ours will go up on the 10th, we usually wait until after dh's birthday on the 13th but we're going to be busy the following weekend. Plus, if I leave it too late to put it up, the cats will still be enjoying the novelty of running up it at Christmas, this way they're bored of it and tend to leave it alone. I've never decorated before the 10th and decorations stay up until after twelfth night. Artificial tree but we will have a fresh wreath outside which will just about last the duration and a fresh foliage table centre which I won't do until Christmas Eve and will probably only last until new year's day

Tessisme · 01/12/2023 07:49

Usually DS2 would be harassing me about the tree by now, but this is the first year he hasn't believed in Santa (or at least admitted it) so I reckon that's why I haven't heard a peep from him. Usually he would help decorate the tree, but his OCD is so bad now that he won't touch it🙁 Still, I'll put it up next weekend and try to get into the Christmas spirit!
