Long time user with name change here!

Firstly I KNOW this is a bit of a non problem and I’m being a bit of a brat!

DH and I had a discussion and decided that Christmas would be pared right back this year -absolutely not an issue.
I told him all I wanted was a dressing gown and slippers, and due to previous history was very quite specific about the kind of thing I wanted, and only just stopped short of sending him actual link wish I had now. Basically a cosy but still “nice” dressing gown and fairly structure slippers which I could wear outside, hanging out washing etc-think faux sheepskin mules kind of thing.

He said to me this morning “don’t look at the Amazon account, there are deliveries coming for me”

Being me of COURSE I looked 😳and he’s ordered the most fucking hideous dressing gown, think oversized checked lumberjack shirt, and marshmallow like slippers.

AIBU to give it a couple of days and “innocently” bombard him with links to what I’d actually like? I’m a terrible actress when it comes to opening disappointing presents, and I know that no matter how cold it gets, I won’t be wearing that dressing gown!

You know that you should have just sent the links. I love slippers but I'm very specific about what I want, abs usually delighted Wink

HewasH2O · 19/11/2023 09:55

Ask him an innocent Q "Do you want me to send you a link to the Christmas presents I want, as I'm being picky about getting exactly the right ones this year?"

I can see how he thinks those fit your requirements.

He hasn’t got any the same tastes as you. Tell him you’ve seen it and don’t want them and give him actual links to what you do want.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 19/11/2023 09:58

There is no way on this earth that I'd be wearing either of those! Envy[not envy]

VelvetVoice · 19/11/2023 10:02

Did you expect him to read your mind? I’m sure he’d be over the moon if you sent him links. I’m sure he wants to WIN

I’d be honest. I’d tell him that I looked, didn’t like it and send him links for what I precisely want

ApolloandDaphne · 19/11/2023 10:02

I quite like those - very cosy, and he has even gone to the trouble of getting matching slippers. What type of thing did you actually want?

Happytimes123456 · 19/11/2023 10:05

I would send him some links, and just say "thought I would send you some links to give you an idea of what I am after"

HamstersAreMyLife · 19/11/2023 10:05

I like what he ordered but I get its not your thing. I think you need to say and send links! My DH would have no clue. Can I ask though...slippers you hang washing out in are they outside slippers or do you wear them in as well? We only wear slippers inside and have a pair of crocs at the door for nipping out. Totally off topic just being nosy!

GeneCity · 19/11/2023 10:07

I'd just say I looked by mistake when I was looking for something else, and say that you don't love them, and that you'd like X and Y instead.

I've returned lots of things to Amazon before.

Boomboom22 · 19/11/2023 10:08

They look exactly like your description? Maybe a bit nicer tbh.

BaronessBomburst · 19/11/2023 10:10

Can you put together an Amazon wishlist and let him pick from that?
And post links to the dressing gown and slippers you actually want because we're nosy! 😄

missmollygreen · 19/11/2023 10:10

If you want something specific then you need to send links, otherwise you are setting him up to fail

ReadySalty · 19/11/2023 10:10

Just be honest - "sorry DH, I looked and really don't like the garments you have chosen. I love you, it's me - I'm very particular. Please can we change them for items I like and will wear?"

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 19/11/2023 10:11

Could you cancel the order?

TheAbsurd · 19/11/2023 10:12

The dressing gown looks nice and warm!

I wouldn’t choose either of those but would probably wear them if they were bought for me.

DisquietintheRanks · 19/11/2023 10:12

"Cosy but nice" covers a whole range of styles and tastes. Wtf did you set him up to fail?

Toottooot · 19/11/2023 10:12

Peer mannie.

purplehue · 19/11/2023 10:13

If there is something that you specifically want ALWAYS send the links.

Then you are happy and he will be happy.

TheAbsurd · 19/11/2023 10:13

They do fit your description.

PurpleOrchid42 · 19/11/2023 10:13

They don't look that bad! I mean, might not be your choice, but he's done his best! And what's wrong with that dressing gown? It's a dressing gown, it's not like anyone's going to see it anyway 😄

User0000009 · 19/11/2023 10:13

Your OP made me lol. Oh they’re useless at present-buying aren’t they. It’s almost like they’ve not looked at or listened to us for YEARS 🤣

ACynicalDad · 19/11/2023 10:15

We send each other links. Don’t avoid it you know it’s the only way. Or buy our presents and get them adressed to each other.

Womencanlift · 19/11/2023 10:16

Nothing wrong with them. Fair enough if they are not to your taste but that’s on you then for not being more specific or sending links

Calling them monstrosities is way over the top and says more about you than him

Soshitatgifts · 19/11/2023 10:19

I think it’s the lumberjack print of the dressing gown that’s set me off! Never in 30 years have I EVER worn anything remotely lumberjack shirt like! I ALWAYS go for plain over pattern. The slippers I can just about live with and with @HamstersAreMyLife suggestion, I can get something like crocs to keep at the back door.

These are the slippers I meant, and they’re pretty much like a pair my dd has, and I did say “A pair like dd’s would be perfect”

I know I’m being a princess about this, he does try and means well, but just always gets wide of the mark…going forward I think I’m going to just have to do links and save disappointment on my part and hurt on his
