Long time user with name change here!

Firstly I KNOW this is a bit of a non problem and I’m being a bit of a brat!

DH and I had a discussion and decided that Christmas would be pared right back this year -absolutely not an issue.
I told him all I wanted was a dressing gown and slippers, and due to previous history was very quite specific about the kind of thing I wanted, and only just stopped short of sending him actual link wish I had now. Basically a cosy but still “nice” dressing gown and fairly structure slippers which I could wear outside, hanging out washing etc-think faux sheepskin mules kind of thing.

He said to me this morning “don’t look at the Amazon account, there are deliveries coming for me”

Being me of COURSE I looked 😳and he’s ordered the most fucking hideous dressing gown, think oversized checked lumberjack shirt, and marshmallow like slippers.

AIBU to give it a couple of days and “innocently” bombard him with links to what I’d actually like? I’m a terrible actress when it comes to opening disappointing presents, and I know that no matter how cold it gets, I won’t be wearing that dressing gown!

If you didn't send him the link, then YABU. People's idea of what is acceptable varies hugely.

My ex once bought me a dressing gown that would have looked fine on my gran in about 1960. 😟

When it comes to men and presents, you need a specific URL. Or a clear specification - short words, big letters, no room for doubt.

diddl · 19/11/2023 10:20

I like them both!

Only thing I can't tell is if the slippers have a sole that would be ok outside.

Too pink I'm guessing though if you wanted sheepskin colour?

I wonder he thought that you would like the dressing gown & wanted to match the slippers?

What don't you like about the DG?

trialanderrordarling · 19/11/2023 10:20

That dressing gown is much nicer than your description! Ok the slippers are maybe a bit flimsy but they aren't awful.
Just send him bloody links in future. My DH is completely incapable of following even the most detailed descriptions of things I want so I now either send him links or buy them myself for him to wrap. It's just easer that way!

Fraaahnces · 19/11/2023 10:21

omg, I would look like a Womble in that dressing gown. I would send the links. Let’s hope he can return them!

PurpleOrchid42 · 19/11/2023 10:13

They don't look that bad! I mean, might not be your choice, but he's done his best! And what's wrong with that dressing gown? It's a dressing gown, it's not like anyone's going to see it anyway 😄

The print is HIDEOUS and the most un-me thing he could have picked….if there had been a contest to pick the most un-me pattern in the world he’d have got top prize 😂

shivawn · 19/11/2023 10:23

I don't see the point in sending links, surely at that point it's easier just to click a button and buy it for yourself?

SpringingJoy · 19/11/2023 10:24

I'm not a slippers person so hard to comment because I hate them all 😂...but I really like the dressing gown!

User0000009 · 19/11/2023 10:24

I’ve got a friend who asked her husband for a watch for Christmas. He bought one, wrapped it and put it under the tree. Owing to him having previous for hideous gifts she unwrapped the watch, took it back to the shop and exchanged it for one she would actually wear, wrapped it, put it under the tree and opened it Christmas morning. The husband was none the wiser ie to him a watch was a watch x

diddl · 19/11/2023 10:25

Sorry, just seen that you don't like the pattern of the DG.

Did you not tell him that you wanted plain?

I don't dislike the pink slippers but I prefer the ones that you would like.

"Sheepskin mules" is pretty specific I would have thought!

Soshitatgifts · 19/11/2023 10:25

@shivawn I really don’t want to have to do that, there’s a wee bit of a principle here that I’ve always done all the shopping and prep for Christmas-for his side and mine-and I don’t have an issue with that, but I’d like him to go to the effort of clicking that button!

From your description of what he'd bought I was expecting something ridiculous, but I actually quite like those. Even better, I'd say he's put some thought/effort into getting them to suit the brief and match each other, so I couldn't be annoyed at him.

Problem here is I think what you had in mind was much more specific than the description you gave. If you wanted sheepskin mules I'd have said "the same as DD's" rather than "like".

diddl · 19/11/2023 10:27

I LOVE your friend 😂😂

Do you think that you could get away with that Op??😂

hattie43 · 19/11/2023 10:27

To be fair to him the colours match and they do roughly meet your criteria . Ime far better to send links to what you want , if he wants a surprise element he can include chocolate / book etc

rwalker · 19/11/2023 10:29

For the life of me ( this isn’t and individual dig at OP)
why don’t people just pick there own present we’re all adults and know there’s no Santa

you get exactly what u want the other person has no stress about second guessing what to buy
and no shit presents ungratefully received thrown in a cupboard total waste of money

Soshitatgifts · 19/11/2023 10:30

@rwalker because I live in hope that despite 30 years of experience telling me otherwise he’ll surprise me with something I like 😂

Send them to me - I must be in the minority and like them both!

HamstersAreMyLife · 19/11/2023 10:30

Ha I do prefer your choice of slippers. I have similar and they are far too precious for outside wearing!

Hibiscrubbed · 19/11/2023 10:34

Wow. No expense spent.

I know it’s rather the point, but come on. Amazon for clothes?!

ElFupacabra · 19/11/2023 10:34

You poor husband. You gave him a vague idea of what you wanted. He bought a exactly that, even matching slippers and you’re turning your nose up despite you knowing he never lives up to your impossible standards misses the mark.

Honestly, if you’re going to have a shit fit over not getting the exact thing you had in mind you need to take all the emotions out of gift giving and just make it transactional and say “get me this exact thing, I don’t want your thoughts or kindness put into it, just give me this”.

ExtraOnions · 19/11/2023 10:35

If you want a specific Dressing Gown and Slippers either a) buy them yourself or b) send a link.

Anything that involves a bit of “mind reading” will never go well.

frazzledasarock · 19/11/2023 10:37

Tell him now and send him links. So he can cancel/ return the ones you don’t want.

I know! My issue is probably bigger than the lumberjack print, it’s the lack of thought that goes into the Amazon shopping! We had a bit of an issue over this last year….

Whilst I say I’m being a bit of a princess, I’m not a brand snob, and am perfectly happy to shop in Next, M&S etc

This is why we don’t do presents in our family! Toys for little ones. Money for the teenagers to buy what they want, and adults buy their own!
The amount of stuff that must go unwanted and wasted at Christmas is obscene. I’d set a budget and buy for yourself OP - saves any disappointment!

Velvian · 19/11/2023 10:40

I don't think the slippers you chose would be suitable for going into the garden either BTW.

Send him links definitely.
