Long time user with name change here!

Firstly I KNOW this is a bit of a non problem and I’m being a bit of a brat!

DH and I had a discussion and decided that Christmas would be pared right back this year -absolutely not an issue.
I told him all I wanted was a dressing gown and slippers, and due to previous history was very quite specific about the kind of thing I wanted, and only just stopped short of sending him actual link wish I had now. Basically a cosy but still “nice” dressing gown and fairly structure slippers which I could wear outside, hanging out washing etc-think faux sheepskin mules kind of thing.

He said to me this morning “don’t look at the Amazon account, there are deliveries coming for me”

Being me of COURSE I looked 😳and he’s ordered the most fucking hideous dressing gown, think oversized checked lumberjack shirt, and marshmallow like slippers.

AIBU to give it a couple of days and “innocently” bombard him with links to what I’d actually like? I’m a terrible actress when it comes to opening disappointing presents, and I know that no matter how cold it gets, I won’t be wearing that dressing gown!

Why bother with Christmas gifts at all if this is how it plays out. Just both buy yourself something you like. It’s ridiculous.
And a dressing & slippers? Are you 90?

What's wrong with dressing gowns and slippers for under 90's? My 27 yr old daughter has asked for that this year - it's cold in the house.

OP I would have to send him links to what I would like. My DH is in the habit of overspending, nice gifts, but silly amounts of money which I feel is a waste so I also insist that I only what PJ's, slippers, perfume (and that's between him and the adult kids!)

No I’m 50 something and having lost 14.5 stones in weight, along with an under active thyroid, I feel the cold, like a lot of people who have lost a lot of weight

Bloody hell I really wish I’d put “lighthearted” in the title

My DH and I get each other a few surprises (not expensive) but for our main present, I pick something out online and so does he, and we just pay for each others! When they arrive we don’t look at our own stuff until Christmas Day.

This year, he said he didn’t need anything but for our wedding anniversary, I bought him a Zip Wire Experience. We discussed it and browsed online we both decided on 2 other experiences for him. Simples!

Have a look at OODIE, Black Friday deal ladies dressing gown £20 instead of £79 . They do look nice .

I dont think your being ungrateful OP, your allowed to like what you like and get presents you want.

Ignore the miserable people saying your ungrateful, probably not the best present buyers themselves 😂

Penniesfromheaven77 · 21/11/2023 14:10

Well done! That’s amazing 🤩

Penniesfromheaven77 · 21/11/2023 14:12

That was for Soshitatgifts.

Wow @Soshitatgifts, that is an amazing weight loss, no wonder you are feeling the cold. Well done on such a fantastic achievement.

To those saying that I’m being ungrateful because I hate the lumberjack print, are you missing the part where I’ve said several times that it’s the most un-me thing he could have picked, I have always worn plain un-patterend clothes!

Perhaps he thinks you need a change.

Also the lesson I was taught about presents is to be grateful for the thought even if you don't like the result. And the dressing gown is perfectly functional, so you could just shrub and say, it's not what I'd have chosen but thank you. After all you've specified a type of product, which he's bought correctly.
If you want someone who buys better presents, DH isn't the one.

MrsPetty · 22/11/2023 10:22

I’m in the same boat OP but have a different issue. DH always insists on ‘surprises’ and I can’t stand them. So when he said he’d organised my Christmas present I peeped at his phone. I actually love what he’s chosen for me (haven’t always 🤦🏼‍♀️) but I feel really, really guilty! We don’t live in the same country so he’s had to liaise with my friend to have it delivered to her … it’s been a
real effort on both their parts. I’ve become quite a good present actress over the years so surprised wife shouldn’t be too difficult 😂 I really wish we could drop the ‘surprise’ element already though …

CaramacFiend · 22/11/2023 10:24

The slippers aren't a patch on the ones you've posted below but I'd probs wear the dressing gown tbh.

It's Amazon. Open it, admire it, return it, buy what you want.
