Long time user with name change here!

Firstly I KNOW this is a bit of a non problem and I’m being a bit of a brat!

DH and I had a discussion and decided that Christmas would be pared right back this year -absolutely not an issue.
I told him all I wanted was a dressing gown and slippers, and due to previous history was very quite specific about the kind of thing I wanted, and only just stopped short of sending him actual link wish I had now. Basically a cosy but still “nice” dressing gown and fairly structure slippers which I could wear outside, hanging out washing etc-think faux sheepskin mules kind of thing.

He said to me this morning “don’t look at the Amazon account, there are deliveries coming for me”

Being me of COURSE I looked 😳and he’s ordered the most fucking hideous dressing gown, think oversized checked lumberjack shirt, and marshmallow like slippers.

AIBU to give it a couple of days and “innocently” bombard him with links to what I’d actually like? I’m a terrible actress when it comes to opening disappointing presents, and I know that no matter how cold it gets, I won’t be wearing that dressing gown!

I LOVE your friend 😂😂

Yep. Genius! 🤣

glassyhag · 19/11/2023 10:42

The items he's ordered exactly fit your requirements. If you want a suicide pen or style then TELL HIM .

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/11/2023 10:42

I don’t mind the dressing gown (I’m not a fan but of the colours it would do in the house) but I wouldn’t like the slippers.

I like boot style slippers - the ones I have are actually Ugg boots but I got them (new) from the charity shop at a bargain price.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/11/2023 10:42

Loving the watch friend above

Your OP made me lol. Oh they’re useless at present-buying aren’t they. It’s almost like they’ve not looked at or listened to us for YEARS 🤣

Get yourself a better partner. Mine is amazing at present-buying, because he actually listens. Way to generalise.

YABU OP. Either send him links or tell him. You are setting him up to fail.

Soshitatgifts · 19/11/2023 10:30

@rwalker because I live in hope that despite 30 years of experience telling me otherwise he’ll surprise me with something I like 😂

send links to a mutual friend and tell mutual friend to send it to him

WeeOrcadian · 19/11/2023 10:30

Send them to me - I must be in the minority and like them both!

Yep they're fine. I was expecting something really awful.

Toesaresoweird · 19/11/2023 10:44

Could have been worse.
They could have been matching. You'd be properly fucked then.

wesurecouldstandgladioli · 19/11/2023 10:44

That dressing gown is an abomination.

I’ve just bought a lovely one for £20.

What's a suicide pen?!

MumHereAgain2023 · 19/11/2023 10:45

Um I like them Blush

Same 🤣 Much nicer than the ugly slippers that were in mind originally too! My DM wanted some of those sheepskin ones a few years ago. I couldn't bring myself to buy them, I didn't want to be responsible for her wearing them, or worse... Her telling someone I'd bought them.

The dressing gown looks lovely and cosy.. Kinda wishing the OP had posted a link!

Jewelspun · 19/11/2023 10:46

You are whinging about the lumberjack pattern but I think he's taken the time to look at robes and seen that the plain ones look like ones you already have so he's picked one that is patterned so that it will be different.

Perhaps to him it's the function of the garment that's important and he thought you would like this one.

He's also chosen a pair of slippers that look warm and comfortable.

If you wanted specific styles and appearance of things you should have shown him exactly what you like.

Roselilly36 · 19/11/2023 10:47

I don’t have any of these shenanigans with DH of nearly 30years, we go out shopping together and he buys what I want, same for birthdays too. I have learnt from past disappointments! 😂 much less stressful.

wesurecouldstandgladioli · 19/11/2023 10:47

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 19/11/2023 09:58

There is no way on this earth that I'd be wearing either of those! Envy[not envy]

I know, the check colours on the dressing gown make my eyes hurt.

LuluBlakey1 · 19/11/2023 10:48

Hibiscrubbed · 19/11/2023 10:34

Wow. No expense spent.

I know it’s rather the point, but come on. Amazon for clothes?!

That's a snotty comment.

HappiestSleeping · 19/11/2023 10:49

@Soshitatgifts I am a man. Please tell him exactly what you want. We are mostly crap at guessing. In positive news, at least he didn't wait until Christmas Eve and buy the last thing on the shelf in desperation. This is good as he is thinking about you already.

As PP have said, he would probably prefer to get you something you like, and yes, he probably should know, but as the other PP said, a watch is a watch to us (also think that is a genius way to handle it though). I suspect a dressing gown is a dressing gown to you husband.

Wishitsnows · 19/11/2023 10:49

The dressing gown is fine. Not sure what the issue is with lumberjack style. They sell this type of pattern in Victoria secret and a lot of younger people wear a lumberjack pattern for pjs etc. it also matches your description. The brown slippers look a bit ugly and for very old people

StripeyDeckchair · 19/11/2023 10:49

Just cancel the amazon order & send links to the items you want

Soshitatgifts · 19/11/2023 10:49

MumHereAgain2023 · 19/11/2023 10:45

Um I like them Blush

And that’s absolutely fine, they’re obviously a pattern you like…I looked at the options, and there are 2 or 3 plain colours too, so why the hell the lumberjack option???

I suppose I should be grateful he didn’t go for the option with the cat ears on the hood and paws on the pockets!😂

I know I’m missing the point but I’d be gutted if my husband picked my presents off Amazon 🫤 I think it shows a lack of thought so I don’t think yabu - tell him

Stilldigging · 19/11/2023 10:51

I feel for your DH. he really can't win. You want him to put the effort in but he has to choose exactly the specific items you want, without being told what they are. The slippers he has chosen, look similar to the ones you said you wanted, and the dressing gown looks pretty inoffensive to me. I think your options are either accept you need to tell him exactly what you want, or accept what he has chosen for you with good grace.

GCAcademic · 19/11/2023 10:52

Soshitatgifts · 19/11/2023 10:30

@rwalker because I live in hope that despite 30 years of experience telling me otherwise he’ll surprise me with something I like 😂

There’s hope, and there’s delusion. I choose to delude myself no longer, and now send DH links to exactly what I want. Left to his own devices, he once bought me a garden gnome. Another highlight was a book explaining the rules of cricket.

SusanKennedyshouldLTB · 19/11/2023 10:52

diddl · 19/11/2023 10:27

Do you think that you could get away with that Op??😂

This is what i was going to suggest. Cancel them and reorder. Would he actually know or care

Somethingsnappy · 19/11/2023 10:53

Cancel the order, re-order some you like, and either....

A. Don't tell your dh if you think he's unlikely to notice 😁

Or

B. Tell him you accidentally saw them, they're not quite what you had in mind, so you've ordered something slightly different instead.

Happy to help!
