Having to book hotel just to maintain sex life?!

DH and I (both early 40s) have a toddler and I also have a teenager from a previous relationship. Typical story - both have demanding FT jobs and also with the demands of both children- demands of the toddler are obvious and the teen, well, it's just the presence of a teenage child in the house that kills the moment - basically we are struggling to maintain a physical relationship. I'm sure others have experienced similar. DH has suggested that we get a babysitter for toddler and go for a few drinks in our local town, but book a hotel room just so we can be intimate. I don't want to actually stay out overnight (we don't have anyone who could look after our toddler overnight anyway), and I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving our toddler overnight regardless, but he's saying we can just book a room to use it for a few hours after we've been for drinks, then check out and go home. I feel this is a little odd! It feels a bit seedy and the hotel will know surely, what we are doing, if we just stay in the room for a few hours then check out?! Do people actually do this or is this weird? 😬

Set your alarm for 5 am. Good session and back to sleep til get up time.

I have obviously name changed for this. I promise I am genuine, despite this being a bizarre post 🙈

Could your teenager go and stay with a friend? The toddler is unlikely to wake up if they have to stay home, otherwise could they stay with family?

londonloves · 18/11/2023 17:34

The hotel staff will not give a shit, they'll have seen it all before. I think it sounds quite sexy actually, maybe as a one off thing. But I think you also need to figure out how to manage things at home so that this isn't your only option.

Teenager stays out at friends houses very rarely, once in a blue moon!

If you can afford it, why not?! Sometimes it's quite difficult to let go in the same way with kids around, and the hotel staff will have seen it all before. Go for it!

HappySammy · 18/11/2023 17:50

We've done that. There's a website called dayuse where you can book rooms for a few hours. I first learned about it when travelling for work but I'm sure the majority of users are having affairs. It's quite funny turning up with a straight face to check in.

MamaNell · 18/11/2023 17:52

Book a day off work and send the kids to nursery/ school as usual. Job done.

But hotels are perhaps more sexy and the staff will have seen everything before. And besides who cares?? You are the paying guest use the room as much or as little as you want.

DisforDarkChocolate · 18/11/2023 17:54

Why not, no one will notice if you head out later in the evening and don't come back. At places like a Premier Inn you can just drop your key in the box, or get your husband to do this if you're embarrassed.

gotomomo · 18/11/2023 17:56

Why do people get so concerned about teens being in the house? Mine have headphones on 90% of the time anyway

LongTermLurker · 18/11/2023 17:56

Thought of setting my alarm for 5am for a shag just made my fanny slam shut, possibly forever.

AyrshireTryer · 18/11/2023 17:58

Do it, have fun. Even if it's just a good sleep.

😂

5.30am is toddler's wake up time anyway so we'd be even more exhausted if we did this 😞

Do it - and book is as Mr and Mrs Smith 😎

AdoraBell · 18/11/2023 18:01

If you do that you can tell to hotel that the babysitter had to go home so you’re having to go home.

Ponderingwindow · 18/11/2023 18:03

If you can afford it, do it.

i also recommend starting the evening out with sex and then there is less pressure on the end of the evening. Before you get full from a meal and tipsy from drinks and sex seems less appealing.

when you are middle aged and dealing with the stresses of life, you sometimes need to be a bit practical.

TheDuchessOfMN · 18/11/2023 18:06

The hotel staff will think you’re having an affair Grin

Do it!

Hankunamatata · 18/11/2023 18:06

Lock for bedroom door. Play music in bedroom if your worried about it or tv and go for it.

Good advice, thank you!

But 'middle aged' made me cry a bit inside 😭 I still feel late 20s in my head 😂

The hotel staff won't even know you're leaving. Book the room for the night, wander off when you need to, leave the key cards in the room. No one will be any the wiser x

I proper laughed at this. And completely agree.

Because they have a sense of decency?

I can not relax when the teens are home.

Op I think it is a good idea

rwalker · 18/11/2023 18:13

Travel lodge book on line lot are self check in no staff about

OneTC · 18/11/2023 18:16

Yeah you can get hotels that don't even have keys or reception, you don't need to check out. They just send you a building door code and then you can open the room door with your phone.

I wouldn't care personally if they were staffed but if it matters to you then you could get a hotel like this.

Boozysoozy1 · 18/11/2023 18:17

We’ve done this a few times- sometimes planned and other times on date night where we couldn’t be arsed to wander round town trying to find somewhere to drink without a huge queue (hadn’t been out for several years and didn’t really know any places anymore)
it’s great fun! Get a bottle of champagne on the way, pop it in the sink and enjoy or head down to the hotel bar between “bed rest” and enjoy having a laugh knowing you’re being naughty!
