Having to book hotel just to maintain sex life?!

DH and I (both early 40s) have a toddler and I also have a teenager from a previous relationship. Typical story - both have demanding FT jobs and also with the demands of both children- demands of the toddler are obvious and the teen, well, it's just the presence of a teenage child in the house that kills the moment - basically we are struggling to maintain a physical relationship. I'm sure others have experienced similar. DH has suggested that we get a babysitter for toddler and go for a few drinks in our local town, but book a hotel room just so we can be intimate. I don't want to actually stay out overnight (we don't have anyone who could look after our toddler overnight anyway), and I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving our toddler overnight regardless, but he's saying we can just book a room to use it for a few hours after we've been for drinks, then check out and go home. I feel this is a little odd! It feels a bit seedy and the hotel will know surely, what we are doing, if we just stay in the room for a few hours then check out?! Do people actually do this or is this weird? 😬

You need a rock solid bed too- not on the adjoining wall. Or you'll have to shag on the floor!

When we moved into our house we didn’t take the biggest room as it was next to another room, so the teen kids got the two bigger rooms and we took a smaller room on a mezzanine just so we could have sex in peace! Well worth the sacrifice, but even then we still chance a quickie in the kitchen if they are upstairs 😂

Hotels, afternoon off from work, sending teen round to grandparents for their tea while you ‘do some chores’….all these can work.

I absolutely believe that you are genuine! l have exactly the same problem, no toddler but teen next door so I can’t relax plus some renovation work. Both DH and I are exhausted mentally and physically as all free time goes to renovation.

Absolutely but it sounds like op isn't having sex at all. You can have loud wild sex when the kids aren't about but it doesn't sound like that happens a lot so sometimes you have to figure out ways around it.

We are having sex, just infrequently and I struggle to enjoy myself like I said, due to knowing my teen is next door. It defeats the object as I can't actually enjoy it.

I feel your pain, 2 x 23 year olds and a 20 yr old still at home. They all work full time (as do we) so don’t go out much of an evening. The eldest two are saving for their own place, 20 yr old is a home bird so they are ALL around almost 100% of the time, evenings and weekends, if one goes out the others don’t. They are all up late watching TV / gaming and they’re also around early on weekends .

The 20 year old in particular has no boundaries and will happily just barge into our room, I just had to shout at her to get out as I was getting ready for bed just now. House is small and we can’t relax.

We look forward to the odd night away and holidays where we can try and have some us time. DH is 58, I’m 55, it never fucking ends having kids under your feet.

We do this 😂 check in, sex, shower, dinner, drinks and back to the hotel for a luxurious night of sleep - much better than trying to do it at midnight when we’re both full, tipsy and absolutely knackered 🤣

Yep, we go to the Spa / pool, back to room for wine and sex, shower, dinner and drinks and then a good sleep. Bloody lovely. Wish I could afford to do it every week.

This sounds great. Sex, soak in a nice big tub, takeout in bed watching Netflix, sleep!
