Having to book hotel just to maintain sex life?!

DH and I (both early 40s) have a toddler and I also have a teenager from a previous relationship. Typical story - both have demanding FT jobs and also with the demands of both children- demands of the toddler are obvious and the teen, well, it's just the presence of a teenage child in the house that kills the moment - basically we are struggling to maintain a physical relationship. I'm sure others have experienced similar. DH has suggested that we get a babysitter for toddler and go for a few drinks in our local town, but book a hotel room just so we can be intimate. I don't want to actually stay out overnight (we don't have anyone who could look after our toddler overnight anyway), and I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving our toddler overnight regardless, but he's saying we can just book a room to use it for a few hours after we've been for drinks, then check out and go home. I feel this is a little odd! It feels a bit seedy and the hotel will know surely, what we are doing, if we just stay in the room for a few hours then check out?! Do people actually do this or is this weird? 😬

Teenager stays out at friends houses very rarely, once in a blue moon!

Stop avoiding having sex. Honestly, your teen will suddenly have lots of sleepovers.

Thought of setting my alarm for 5am for a shag just made my fanny slam shut, possibly forever.

😂 same. Just bloody do it.

greyhairnomore · 18/11/2023 18:20

Just have sex at home. Surely your teenager doesn't come barging in your room at night ?

MossGrowsFat · 18/11/2023 18:24

Those saying have sex with teenagers in the house, do you have any?

Teenagers stay up later than lots of parents, especially those with three year olds.

And as for the poster suggesting letting teen hear parents having sex, well there is a register for you.

BettyBakesCakes · 18/11/2023 18:25

We're often tempted to do this op. Three teens in the house and two with asd who never sleep. It kills the mood!

Mimikyuu · 18/11/2023 18:26

We have sex in the shower usually with the door locked! Music on, running water. Feral children in the house elsewhere.

Olika · 18/11/2023 18:28

Go for it and have fun.

We've done that. There's a website called dayuse where you can book rooms for a few hours. I first learned about it when travelling for work but I'm sure the majority of users are having affairs. It's quite funny turning up with a straight face to check in.

I used to work in the hotel industry and this was happening all the time.
The hotel employees don't bat an eye and the management love it as they get two lots of revenue for the same room in a 24 hour period.😁

Floralnomad · 18/11/2023 18:30

We never stopped having sex because of having teens ( or any age child actually ) , just shut the door , stick the tv / radio on in the bedroom and keep the noise to a minimum.

wited · 18/11/2023 18:31

Just close the door and get on with it. I've had teenagers for several years and we are just careful not to make loads of obvious sex sounds.

Mine slammed shut too and there are now cobwebs.

My parents had a lock on the inside of their bedroom door, but we were asked to knock the door before coming in anyway and we wouldn't dream of barging in during the night.

Rjahdhdvd · 18/11/2023 18:33

Similar situation; very early in the morning or evening very quietly. Preferably with some kind of background noise in your room like a TV.

No of course they don't barge in, but their room is next door to ours so I'm conscious of noise. It just kills the mood for me and I can't relax and enjoy it.

The hotel staff will not give a shit, they'll have seen it all before. I think it sounds quite sexy actually, maybe as a one off thing. But I think you also need to figure out how to manage things at home so that this isn't your only option.

This.

The only thing they'd remark on is the fact that you're actually married to each other.

Sounds rather romantic actually.

nopuddingformoi · 18/11/2023 18:50

Go straight to the hotel, take a bottle of something with you if desired, & enjoy. Hotel staff will have seen it all before & they don’t need an explanation.

HeyNando · 18/11/2023 18:50

My friend books a hotel sometimes over her lunch break with her husband!

I'm pretty sure I couldn't be turned on under those circumstances but it seems to work for them.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 18/11/2023 18:54

DH and I used to do this pretty regularly. It works well imo.

We also occasionally used to take turns of staying over to get a full night of sleep when our youngest’s medication regimen meant 3 hourly wake ups in the night.

Sex with DH, then him heading home and me having an uninterrupted bath and a takeaway pizza while watching the tv, uninterrupted, before an uninterrupted nights sleep was absolute bliss.

Hotel staff won’t care. There are actually some hotels that you can book a day room in!

RealOP · 18/11/2023 18:55

MossGrowsFat · 18/11/2023 18:12

Because they have a sense of decency?

I can not relax when the teens are home.

Op I think it is a good idea

We have several teens in the house and still manage an active sex life. Our bedroom door has a lock, and they know never to walk in even if it's unlocked. I don't really see the big deal, I mean we spend every night together in bed, so why would it matter if we get some fun time before sleep?

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 18/11/2023 18:59

Could you both book morning/afternoon off work if toddler at nursery ,or even whole day.

Bouffe · 18/11/2023 19:06

If you're embarrassed about checking out only a couple of hours after checking in I guess you could tell reception staff that there's been a domestic emergency and you have to leave — but I imagine that's what everyone who's having a fling says. If you can afford it, why not?

Roselilly36 · 18/11/2023 19:06

Yep book a hotel, or buy a holiday home 😉 our DS’ are never interested in visiting, we go to check up on it a lot 😂

OhComeOnFFS · 18/11/2023 19:10

Pay your teenager to take the toddler to the park and as soon as the door shuts, get at it!

audihere · 18/11/2023 19:10

definitely both book the day off, you can be as loud as you want with teen at school and toddler at nursery/childcare

(the hotel is more fun though)
