DH and his fucking chilli

Humpfree · 04/11/2023 20:47

DH smothers everything in chilli, even though he can’t handle spicy food himself. Everytime he makes chicken it’s smothered in chilli and ends up where neither of us can eat it. He does it every fucking time!!!

Tonight he decided to randomly make some roast potatoes as a snack 🫤 to said I didn’t want any and he got all l offended so I said if you make cheesy potatoes I’ll eat them … so that’s what he did. He’s spent over an hour and a half making these fucking things … they smelt nice, all covered in melted cheese - lovely! Except when I bit into one my mouth was suddenly on fire. Yep, he’s smothered then in chilli. We now have a full bowl of cheesy potatoes sat there that neither of us can eat. I ask why he does this and he doesn’t answer me! I think it’s so weird. It would be different if he loved spicy food but he can’t tolerate it any better than I can!

what a waste

I fail to see any humour in this.

He sounds like a tedious moron.

Making food he has cooked deliberately inedible?

A complete moron.

PurplePansy05 · 05/11/2023 07:55

Ahmm, get rid of all the chilli you have at home.

Don't buy any new.

If he's cooking, send him a link with a recipe how you want stuff cooked.

Alternatively don't let him cook if he barely does it anyway?! Just order a takeaway, he clearly isn't as good as you claim he is. It's completely stupid to waste food.

Over40Overdating · 05/11/2023 07:58

He repeatedly and deliberately does this even when you’ve said you won’t eat the food with chilli & then presents it to you without telling you it’s got chilli.

He is either quite seriously cognitively impaired to the point of needing a referral.

Or an absolute dickhead who deliberately tries to get you to eat food that will hurt, make you sick or have you on the loo. Why would anyone do that, much less to someone they love?

He’s not a lovely man. He’s an arsehole who needs to be told in no uncertain terms not to do this again. And if he does to replace the food he’s wasted with edible versions, pronto.

If he’d come home to me with vindaloo, he’d have been turned back to the door with his receipt and shopping back and told not to come back til he’d returned them for something edible.

Joking about it instead of being embarrassed at how thick he is would be the final straw for me.

He sounds spectacularly thick.

😆😆😆😆

TreesandRug · 05/11/2023 08:09

This reminds me of a friend who had an eating disorder. She would spend ages in the kitchen cooking rich decadent food. Then 'accidentally' ruin it so she couldn't eat it.

Humpfree · 04/11/2023 21:12

😂😂 good god! That’s a reply I wasn’t expecting 🤣

I've laughed so hard at all of these replies 😆😆😆😭😭

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 05/11/2023 08:12

Whatever you do op, don't go on holiday to South Devon. There he will find a world of opportunities with chillies. There's a farm that just grows chillies, including the Carolina reaper. As a spice lover, the reaper is one step too far for me. Trinidad scorpion is my maximum.

Also there's Pepper X, developed by the same insane genius who bred the reaper, but it's not commercially available yet.

Humpfree · 04/11/2023 21:30

Well I can’t stop him cooking stuff but I do 99% of the meals. He likes to do a BBQ once a fortnight - quite funny at the minute seeing him stood outside in the pissing rain with his winter fleece on 😂 this is another odd habit of his - BBQ obsessions, even if the depths of winter

He sounds funny! I'd be humoured living with him.

My partner is the same, very peculiar habits, but I have to say, if he even dared put a scotch bonnet (ffs😭😭😆😆) in my food, I'd be filing for divorce. 😆😆

QS90 · 04/11/2023 21:43

Aren't chillies supposed to be an aphrodisiac? Though it sounds like he's ruined any chance of a shag! 😂

I can't cope 😆😆😆

TheRealLilyMunster · 05/11/2023 08:19

OP is he very immature in other things?

My teenage daughters boyfriend insists on eating the spiciest noodles he can find, even though he has tears running down his face from the heat.

So I asked him why - and he said that he sees it as a challenge, and because it shows he's a man! (In a kind of jokey way, but actually, that was the reason).

But he's just a young lad, and doesn't inflict the chilli on anyone else.

Add that to your DH's manly display of barbecuing midwinter, and I'd say all this is definately down to his male ego.

Strange he still feels the need to do it as a grown man though. Does he feel he has something to prove?

I'd get him a shed, and tell him to express his manliness there, not in your bloody kitchen.

OhmygodDont · 05/11/2023 08:40

I mean chilli cheese roasties sound lovely.

However you both seem to have a very low threshold for chilli considering the way you make chilli so going out buying whole chillis sounds bloody bonkers of him.

There’s always an abundance of chillis in my house, my dh and children don’t like them much so they only go in my food. I have reapers and dragons as a staple in my dehydrator, and cayennes for the children separately.

He needs to grow up but his obsession with bbq too makes him sound like he thinks it makes him sound or look like a man’s man. Instead his looking like an idiot well if anyone else actually sees him attempting chilli.

Has he always done it? Or could he actually need to see a doctor maybe his hit his head or something.

Hibiscrubbed · 05/11/2023 08:40

I’m sorry, but surely this is a sign there’s something wrong with him? This is so stupid. He is so stupid. 😳

Believeitornot · 05/11/2023 08:50

Humpfree · 05/11/2023 00:22

He knows scotch bonnets are hot - he deliberately goes looking for these specific chillies everytime he shops

I don’t know what to say.

hellohellothere · 05/11/2023 09:04

willWillSmithsmith · 05/11/2023 09:06

OfficerChurlish · 05/11/2023 00:59

Could you ask him to prepare the chilis separately, as a kind of fresh home-made sauce or condiment, and then serve them on the side with his meals? There are some dishes - mainly Caribbean, I think - that would need to be cooked with the chili added from the beginning, but it doesn't sound like he's making those types of dishes, more classic/basic English style food with chiles added. In that case, they could very easily be added "to taste" at the table.

If you feel like humoring him, tell him you want to experiment as these chilis are new to you, you know he thinks they're great and you want to love them but you've found that you need to start slow and build up your tolerance. You don't have to tell him that he obviously needs to do the same.

Humour him? I’m a pretty laid back person but my patience would have been done by now. I’d refuse to eat anything he cooked, I’d tell him not to cook for me as I’m not going to even try it. I’d tell him it’s pathetic and a turn off. I would go through the cupboards/fridge everyday and throw any chillis in the bin. I honestly think I may even wonder if he’s getting dementia or another brain disease as it’s genuinely not normal and bizarre. If he kept insisting on cooking these I’d want him to get checked out at the doctors.

MrsWhites · 05/11/2023 09:22

My money is on man chat at work/friends and trying to fit in/impress - you know how some men think eating stupidly hot chillis and BBQing makes them big hard strong men 🙄

PonyPatter44 · 05/11/2023 09:33

I think there is actually something slightly wrong with him. This isn't normal behaviour, at all. Has he always been like this, OP or has it come on in the last few years?

TempName247 · 05/11/2023 11:54

What does he actually say as to why he uses chilli when he doesn’t like it?

Caroparo52 · 05/11/2023 12:07

This mage me laugh...sorry.
GET RID of all chilli items in your kitchen.
What a plonker

Hellofromtheotherslide · 05/11/2023 14:07

I would get the ick with this level of dumb fuckery.

Anyway, I've just made a big pot of chilli, extra hot, because I love it. Thanks for the inspiration this weekend, OP. 😆Sorry he's a twat 🙃

Which is pathetic- do they think 5 foot tall 80 year old Indian grandmothers who eat hot curry are big hard men? Male bravado really is a dimwitted way of thinking.

This has to be a wind up / drunk thread.

Not once has the OP replied to the many people asking what he says if asked why he's doing it.

Either way, batshit.

Catopia · 05/11/2023 19:08

Until you solve it, keep emergency greek yoghurt in the fridge to eat with anything he cooks to pacify the chilli a bit!

She said in the very first post that she asks him and he doesn’t answer.

It certainly is batshit. I’d be refusing to eat anything he cooks or buys. He could cook (and then not eat) whatever he wants for himself.

I bet when he’s at work he eats normal food. If he goes for lunch with friends I bet he doesn’t order absurdly chilli laden food that he can’t eat. Usually with these weird men, the weird behaviour is reserved for the wife to endure.

As I said, he makes a joke of it
