Husband is meanypegs

Belleweather · 25/10/2023 22:33

I'm naturally very blonde, platinum. Menopause causing hair thinness and my DD cut my very long hair off for me to a chin length blunt bob 3 weeks ago. I'm only 49 Ffs. Today my husband (? Hmm) said to guests at a dinner that he thought I looked like Jimmy Saville. AIBU to never like him again? Utterly humiliated. I am a lot younger than him and he has done this sort of thing before. So hurt and embarrassed, Considering shaving my head.

So sorry to hear that op 💐💐💐

TimeForACider · 26/10/2023 14:09

I guess people can have opinions. The fact it’s Jimmy Saville does make it a bit worse though. DH and I tell each other if we have had haircuts that aren’t quite right, I guess it depends how confident you are in your relationship 🤷‍♀️

notforonesecond · 26/10/2023 14:13

I’ve got a mate with a blonde bob who looks like Jimmy Saville. I think it often.

I wouldn’t make the joke about it though, because she actually does look like him. If it was just the hair, I’d probably have given in to the urge by now tbh.

Dartmoorcheffy · 26/10/2023 14:14

I don't think my mum ever forgave me for saying she looked like myra Hindley on her passport photo. I was a teenager at the time but looking back now that must have been an awful thing to say (was true though, it was a dreadful passport photo)

iknowwhatimean · 26/10/2023 14:16

somebody pointed out I looked like Myra Hindley!!

A 'friend' said that to me once about a photo of me. I was speechless! And no, I don't look like her FFS but the association is awful!

MrsMitford3 · 26/10/2023 14:18

@Belleweather I think by using meanypegs in your title is infantilising and somehow diminishing what he has done.

He wasn't a meanypeg he was a thoughtless twat.

WideLegPant · 25/10/2023 22:52

Now then, now then, I have here a letter saying that your DH is a prickypeg

Howling at this..

Half term boredom?

Thank you to everyone who has replied. I did fall apart slightly when he said and friend and DSS defended me. I do love Charlie and Lola. Well my DD is off to uni and I'm missing her a lot and Cahrlie and Lola were our favourite. DSC are lovely, they've been coming to visit which is so good of them. I'm empty nest and redundant next week after 27 years in my job, quite fragile atm. Thank you all for replies. Maybe I'll blow redundancy on a shell suit, cigars and JEWELLERY? Have not shaved my head (yet). These men! Urghhh!

Go for it, it's Halloween next week😅

OP posted a couple of weeks ago saying she was a divorced lone parent. Also posted the town she lives in, her job title, and how much debt she’s in.
@Belleweather no privacy concerns?

So she did! That is a bit of a puzzle isn't it? 🤔

SpicedAppleAndFreshCider · 26/10/2023 14:34

Is it wispy like Jimmy Saville's hair? I'm sure there are some hair products that might help.

Just don't start smoking cigars.

Half term boredom?

I was wondering this..

Springforward1 · 26/10/2023 14:44

This is definitely not acceptable behaviour. As a private joke I'd be hurt and would want a sincere apology. In front of guests I'd be fuming. I'd take him aside and tell him laughing and joking at our own or each others expense is fine in context and good fun. This 'joke' was a step too far and quite simply below the belt. I'd be having a deep discussion and making sure it would never happen again. He sounds like he could be insecure despite the bravado comment.

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 26/10/2023 15:01

I knew exactly what you meant, OP, and it's in our family vernacular too.

Lola calls Arnold Wolf a Meanypegs when he won't share his ice lolly after Lola drops hers min "I Am Extremely Absolutely Boiling" and my kids just ran with it as insult of choice for years.

The responses have been outstanding. Thanks for all the laughs, everyone.

ZeroFuches · 26/10/2023 15:05

@SisterMichaelsHabit yup - Charlie & Lola old timer here & the meany peg phrase is from an early episode where they fall out and are made to sit on the simmer down seat (which then became the simmer down step in my house & very useful it was too).

Floppyelf · 26/10/2023 15:11

Jimmy saville 😂this isn’t what u want to hear but that’s the funniest thing I read all week.

Jamaisy82 · 26/10/2023 15:12

He shouldn't have said it. I'd be annoyed but unless this is his behaviour quite often I'd just forget about it.

backtowinter · 26/10/2023 15:17

CesareBorgia · 26/10/2023 13:03

Perhaps your DD is an opera fan and wants to be the Barber of Savile?

🤣🤣

astarsheis · 26/10/2023 15:24

LeonBlack · 25/10/2023 22:34

Meanypegs? What fresh hell is this phrase?

My thoughts too 🙄

JenFor · 26/10/2023 15:50

Dump and run. You are better on your own than with a pig like that.

PeppermintMandy · 26/10/2023 15:56

This all depends whether or not you do look like Jimmy Saville. Photo?
