Husband is meanypegs

Belleweather · 25/10/2023 22:33

I'm naturally very blonde, platinum. Menopause causing hair thinness and my DD cut my very long hair off for me to a chin length blunt bob 3 weeks ago. I'm only 49 Ffs. Today my husband (? Hmm) said to guests at a dinner that he thought I looked like Jimmy Saville. AIBU to never like him again? Utterly humiliated. I am a lot younger than him and he has done this sort of thing before. So hurt and embarrassed, Considering shaving my head.

I only clicked on this due to the word meanypegs, I am bemused any adult would actually use a phrase like that to other adults.

KimberleyClark · 26/10/2023 10:00

Your husband is a cuntypegs. He should not have said that to you in private never mind in front of your friends.

Ibravedaflood · 26/10/2023 10:03

I would actually dump dh if he said that. Thought when I had mine cut last year ds declared I was Lord Farquad which hurt me. Your dh went way too far...

wineandmaltesershappyme · 26/10/2023 10:04

Twatypegs.

wineandmaltesershappyme · 26/10/2023 10:05

Don't shave your head, get mean back or kick him out. Don't let him speak to you that way

Hooplahooping · 26/10/2023 01:24

‘Unfortunately, now that he’s getting on a bit, the only way he can get it up is if I put on my shell suit and offer to fix it for him” would be an ideal retort if he ever tries that again…

💀 Yep - he’d not make a comeback from that one!

newnamethanks · 26/10/2023 10:19

YABU for making up and using kiddy words whist being in possession of an adult vocabulary, hopefully. Also YABU for putting up with crap like this. Bloody hell.

MuckyPlucky · 26/10/2023 10:22

If you use phrases such as ‘meanypegs’ then your husband can be forgiving for detecting a resemblance for Jimmy Saville 😳

MuckyPlucky · 26/10/2023 10:26

DP & I share a dark sense of humour. He often has his hair cut in a style which I call “1980’s middle-aged mum”. We both laugh at this.
I had a bad hair cut earlier this year which we both agreed was très Saville.

I’ve also rocked the ‘medieval serf’ hair cut (his words), and he’s rocked a ‘Rachel from friends’

GabriellaMontez · 26/10/2023 10:36

Have you packed his bags?

KStockHERO · 26/10/2023 10:44

WideLegPant · 25/10/2023 22:52

Now then, now then, I have here a letter saying that your DH is a prickypeg

😂

OP, I had bleached platinum hair a while back (around the time JS died and all the news was coming out).

I put on a tracksuit to go to the gym and as I was leaving the house, DP said "I hope you fix it yourself to beat your PB, Jimmy".

I didn't mind really, I did look like JS. I appreciated DP pointing it out.

I'd have been absolutely furious if he'd said it in front of people though.

Gotta love half term.

That was exactly my thoughts.
Surely this language has not come from an adult.

thesugarbumfairy · 26/10/2023 10:52

YABU for using the word 'meanypegs'. Using babyfied language like this is one of the many many reasons I have separated from 'D'H
YABU for suggesting you shave your head. That won't help matters. Do YOU like your hair? I know its thinning but there are products that can help.

YANBU for being hurt and upset by your husbands cruel words. Have you told him how it made you feel? Did he give a shit? Some men never grow up. They don't learn what is acceptable to say and what isn't, and they don't want to. He sounds like one of those.

AnxiousPangolin · 26/10/2023 10:53

YABU for saying ‘meanypegs’. Are you five?

Trinity65 · 26/10/2023 10:57

I feel for you OP, I really do

When I bleached my hair (my natural shade is dark brown) Years ago and roots started to appear (looking very dark) somebody pointed out I looked like Myra Hindley!!
I have not spoken to them since that day in 1987 in fact. lol

Jokes aside though, that is nasty of your not so DH

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 26/10/2023 11:05

Has meanypegs apologised yet?

ttcat37 · 26/10/2023 11:40

‘Meanypegs’ 🤢🤢🤢

millymollymoomoo · 26/10/2023 11:42

Depressing that people seem to have lost sense of humour these days

MatthewsMumFromTikTok · 26/10/2023 11:44

Depressing that op hasn't been back!

Resilience · 26/10/2023 11:47

I'm sorry you're upset. 💐

How long have you been married and does he have form for this? Your thread makes it sound as though this is far from an isolated incident.

It never ceases to amaze me what is considered acceptable in some relationships (willingly, by both parties) and how awfully some people speak to their supposed loved ones, but over the years I've learned that people have different senses of humour to me. However, that's clearly not the case here. Even if he was careless rather than intentional, he should feel terrible for making you feel like that and unreservedly apologise. If he doesn't, or he has a pattern of behaving like this where 'sorry' is never followed by a change of behaviour, I'd seriously evaluate the whole relationship.

I'm sure your new hairstyle looks lovely. 💐

Stresa22 · 26/10/2023 11:49

I would have lol’d at that but then I have form for comparing my hair to a poodles ears.

CopernicusCalled · 26/10/2023 11:50

A trim'll fix it for you.

You win. 😂😂😂

WillSheBeKind · 26/10/2023 11:55

What is with the use of babyish language on MN these days. This is the second one I've seen today.

As for the question - he sounds like a dick but its a bigger problem for him as he has to live with being a dick whereas your hair is probably lovely!
