As a man, should I post on MN

I love the MN forums. More often than not I just read them, as they’re useful from a parenting point of view and often very funny to boot. I occasionally comment. I’ve started one thread ever, before this one.

Saw a thread this morning about a perceived rise in ‘women hating’ men posting on here. I’m definitely not one of those, and would be mortified to come across as one. But before long the thread started talking about men in general, and whether or not they should be posting at all on a forum called Mumsnet that’s predominantly aimed at women.

I get the need for women-only spaces, and would hate to intrude on one unintentionally.

So as a man, as a dad, am I being unreasonable by posting on Mumsnet? If the consensus is that I am, then I’ll stop.

Actually this just shows
Something about what mm us become .
It's discriminatory.
It's hostile .
It's up it's own arse now due to the demographic
It's nasty
It's not inclusive at all .

I'm a woman . And ashamed of this pathetic thread .

I don't think it's actually compulsory to read or post on MN...

If you feel that way, I wonder why you keep posting here.

What I wonder is why, after MNHQ have clarified the position and the vote came out as something like twice as many ok with the OP posting as not, that it seems like some posters can't accept this with a modicum of good grace.

And to be clear, I'd be delighted if there was a site similar to MN which was intended to be just for women and could somehow manage to achieve that - it'd have to be different from the start, not anonymous, with some robust means of verification.

Giggle is going to be all women, using facial recognition.
MRA’s are already desperately campaigning against it being allowed though.

Giggle sounds interesting.

I think the OP's question was to pose the question should men post.

Rightly or wrongly, some women on this site are going to assume that it's for women and I can't see that change. Despite a mealy mouthed mission statement.

Therefore this discussion will rumble on (until Giggle gets going and then MN will become less relevant).

@ErrolTheDragon "seems like some posters can't accept this with a modicum of good grace."

I can and do accept it. I reserve my right to say I wish it was different. I see no reason why I should be abused by posters like @bemorebernard for that position. And for thinking that women who behave like teenagers in the presence of a man "oh you're soooo funny! You should write a book!" "The male viewpoint is soooo important" "We need diversity!!" as if women are a homogeneous mass are a little....tedious.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2023 13:49

I did say 'some', CurlewKate !

StarlightLady · 04/10/2023 13:59

I welcome men here who are with us because they are seeking a female perspective on things.

beastlyslumber · 04/10/2023 14:00

I accept it too. But I do find the sycophantic pandering to males on here quite sick making. As I said before, if a woman had posted for reassurance/compliments she would have had her arse handed to her.

But it's interesting to hear men admitting to lying and pretending to be women on here. Like, we knew it, but good to have it confirmed. Especially when you get the victim blaming comments and MRA comments on sensitive threads, I'm now much more likely to think those are some of these lying men.

Though quite a lot of threads which are ostensibly doing that end up with the bloke flouncing if he doesn't get the answers he wants, IME.

StarlightLady · 04/10/2023 14:06

@ErrolTheDragon - I think that can be true of some threads regardless of the gender of the poster. And some posters can be quite nasty.

Hence I stillthink that any man seeking a woman's pont of view as opposed to wishing to mansplain should be welcomed.

bemorebernard · 04/10/2023 18:50

Errrm despite my name I am actually a woman 😂. I chose it after seeing a fb post about a dog called Bernard . I'm a 51 year old female , born female , remain. Female , always have been and always will be , I still think of this as a parents for parents site not a women for women site but I was here when it was all fields round here . When it had like 100k users , not 8 mill.

bemorebernard · 04/10/2023 18:52

I never even thought about my name , that quite funny that I've been mislabelled a man because I was defending a man's right to post .

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2023 19:03

I'd though maybe it was that you wanted to emulate Bernard from Black Adder.

Which one was Bernard ? God it's ages since I've seen blackadder .
