Ruined weekend

Treated myself to a bottle of Prosecco last night, it turned out to be so sweet it was undrinkable. DH bought me a replacement today, clearly marked extra dry.

Its not only too sweet it has the flavour of cardboard.

I have a cold and my sinuses hurt.. I really needed a good sleep, but I accidentally drunk caffeinated coffee before bed last night and was wide awake at 2am.

finding it increasingly difficult to locate.

@Rabbitcar no it’s Oppo salted caramel. Sainbury’s, Waitrose and Morrisons near me have stopped stocking it. Can probably get it direct from stockist still, more expensive. I’ll see if Tesco have it back next week, this has happened a couple of times but I am worried with others stopping stocking it

Curry house closures, I feel your pain. Our favourite closed during the pandemic, returned for a brief hurrah and sodded off again about 18m ago.

On the plus side in the 5 or so we've tried in that time we found an alright one and an amazing one that might even be slightly better than the first favourite. Problem is it only takes cash on delivery and it's very rare that we have enough cash for a curry in the house so has to be a special treat out to pull enough out for it.

I don't know why (other than tax reasons I guess) as they've been going for about 25 years and hsve a restaurant attached too, it'd be so much easier if you could order and pay online.... But better for my waistline that we can't 😂

Ginger beer recipe;
First freeze a lemon.
Take 300g of root ginger and give it a good bashing with a rolling pin. Then chop it up into small chunks.Add it to a large pan, with 4 litres of water, the zest and pulp of the lemon (microwave it first to defrost, the freezing gets more juice out) and 700g of sugar.
Boil for about 15 minutes. Sterilise your fermenting vessel . I use cheap plastic demijohns because I can't be trusted with glass!

Put a lid on the pot and leave to cool completely. Then pour the mixture including all the chunks into the fermenting vessel. Add approx 1 tsp beer or wine yeast, almost any kind will be fine, as well as 1 tsp cream of tartar ,1 tsp yeast nutrient if you have any and about half a mug of cold black tea. Top up with water so the water level is about at the shoulder of the bottle.
Fit an airlock. Leave somewhere warm for about a week to 10 days. If the blupping noises have stopped then it is probably ready. You can test the specific gravity if you like, to be sure, but I rarely bother.
Siphon into bottles and add 1tsp of sugar or 2 carbonation drops to each bottle before fitting the cap securely. Leave for another 2 weeks and it will be ready to drink. There will be sediment from the secondary fermentation, so never drink from the bottle.
This makes about 7 or 8 bottles depending on siphoning skills . You might need more or less bottling sugar, that is quite personal and I don't like too much fizz.

I ordered KFC boneless banquet box as I panicked at the drive through speaker thingy when I’d actually been dreaming of those bite sized chunks in bbq sauce but couldn’t see them on menu board. Literally devastated 🥲Nearly went round again to reorder.

Feel pain over favourite curry place being closed. Mine is open, fancied a night of starters, 2x tandoori mix grill, rice, poppadoms and naan, order placed, was patiently awaiting our lovely banquet. Only for it to arrive missing most of the order. What I received, was poppadoms, shami kebab, the curry sauce to go with mix grills. Didn't question bag size as 2 teen DS ordered value boxes. No answer on the phone, so now currently sulking with a poppadom and shami and LARGE wine, waiting for them to answer and rectify order. No doubt will go past it when they eventually answer 😑To top it off, no bloody dips either 😓

I would have quite liked to have a Prosecco tonight but I feel rubbish after my Covid jab
